Opening Night – World Premiere

Gone Girl

David Fincher, USA, 2014, Dcp, 150m

David Fincher’s film version of Gillian Flynn’s phenomenally successful best seller (adapted by the author) is one wild cinematic ride, a perfectly cast and intensely compressed portrait of a recession-era marriage contained within a devastating depiction of celebrity/media culture, shifting gears as smoothly as a Maserati 250F. Ben Affleck is Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on the day of their fifth anniversary. Neil Patrick Harris is Amy’s old boyfriend Desi, Carrie Coon (who played Honey in Tracy Letts’s acclaimed production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) is Nick’s sister Margo, Kim Dickens (TremeFriday Night Lights) is Detective Rhonda Boney, and Tyler Perry is Nick’s superstar lawyer Tanner Bolt. At once a grand panoramic vision of middle America, a uniquely disturbing exploration of the fault lines in a marriage, »

Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin aren't exactly seeing eye to eye. The first image from Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice" has arrived, and in it the two stars sport wildly-different looks (Phoenix's bearded P.I. is a far cry from Brolin's flat-topped detective) as they sit beside each other at a diner counter. Set in 1970 Los Angeles, the Thomas Pynchon adaptation stars Phoenix as Larry "Doc" Sportello, a drug-addled P.I. investigating his ex-girlfriend's disappearance. In addition to Brolin, the all-star cast for the film - which has been slated to bow at the New York Film Festival on October 4 - includes Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Jena Malone, Martin Short, Maya Rudolph and Eric Roberts. First Look at Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin in 'Inherent Vice'

16 August 2014 4:33 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Entertainment Weekly has our first look at Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice. Based on Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel, the movie is described as a 'psychedelic crime romp'.

Josh Brolin is playing a hippie-hating Lapd detective named Christian 'Bigfoot' Bjornson who is embroiled in a series of subplots involving conspiracies, fake deaths, heroin dealers and pimps. Joaquin Phoenix is a pot smoking private eye named Larry 'Doc' Sportello, who becomes involved in the case of a missing surfer girl's boyfriend. Here, we see 'Bigfoot' and 'Doc' meeting in a diner, where the P.I. is obviously infatuated with Bjornson's Joe Friday buzz cut

Katherine Waterston, who plays the surfing femme fatale with the missing boyfriend, had this to say about working with Paul Thomas Anderson on Inherent Vice:

"With Paul, he's interested in what might happen, not what should happen. He doesn't walk onto set with a clear goal. »

Will We See Kryptonite in ‘Batman V Superman’?

13 August 2014 4:39 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Production on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to roll-on and, despite Warner Bros.’ best efforts to keep everything under wraps, leaked set photos are inevitable. However, even though unofficial sources have provided photos of Ben Affleck on set, along with a rumored visit from Mockingjay actress Jena Malone, DC Universe fans still have very little concrete information about what to expect from the upcoming Man of Steel and Caped Crusader team-up.

One full year after the film’s announcement, with 1.5 years still left before release, insiders across the industry are still attempting to piece together the full Batman V Superman plot – resulting in a mix of unconfirmed rumors and speculation that provide tantalizing possibilities but, so far, aren’t adding up to a clear picture of what director ...

The film's producer Michael Uslan has confirmed to App that despite online reports suggesting the character is in his 50s, Ben Affleck is portraying Bruce Wayne as a man in his mid-40s.

Batman Vs Superman Possible New Female Character Speculated

According to a new report from Batman News, Hunger Games Johanna Mason star, Jenna Malone (left) was spotted on the set of the new "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" super hero/action flick, causing major speculation to flare up as to whether she was just visiting, or if she was their on business. She's previously worked with the director, Zach Snyder, on the Sucker Punch movie in 2011, so it's not outside of the realm of possibility that Zach could want her on board for something in this. Meanwhile, as people's imaginations run wild, they're trying to figure out who she would play if she is actually cast for something. Some tweets also went out about this . [Update: More set videos are popping up, this time featuring Ben Affleck himself. Scroll to watch.]

Nine Untitled DC comic book movies were given official releases dates by Warner Bros. earlier this week; one of the studio’s head executives has already promised that more information on these films (including, most likely, the Justice League movie that Zack Snyder is onboard to direct) will arrive before the month is over. Until then, production on Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice keeps chugging along, as evidenced by the latest batch of fan-shot videos from the set (see above, for example).
