'Suicide Squad' Cast Confirmed: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie Suit Up

2 December 2014 6:52 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. confirmed the cast for one of its anticipated DC Comics tentpoles. The Suicide Squad, a group of incarcerated villains who agree to take on high-risk black ops missions for the government in exchange for reduced prison sentences, features some of DC’s most famous bad guys, and A-list names are now suiting up for the August 2016 blockbuster.

Will Smith will play Deadshot, who is best known as a Batman villain, an expert marksman with a cybernetic eye and a death wish. It’s not Smith’s first turn in the superhero universe, as he portrayed an anti-hero vigilante in 2006’s Hancock.

Jared Leto will star as The Joker, one of DC’s most infamous villains, who has been memorably portrayed in the past by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. The Joker is not an original Suicide Squad team member, so DC fans will be interested to see how the »

New Joss Whedon Biography Gives Details on the Creation of Firefly

1 August 2014 6:45 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Amy Pascale’s biography of Joss Whedon hits shelves today, and with it comes new insight into our Geek Overlord. We’ve already seen Tom Hiddleston’s love letter to Whedon, which came from the book, now io9 has an except of Chapter 17, about the creation of Firefly. It goes in depth about his inspiration for the show, casting, writing Chinese slang, and why he named the show after the ship. He even throws shade at Doctor Who. You should probably read the whole thing (Especially because I’m not going spoil the reason he named the show Firefly. Its reveal is too good in the context of the excerpt.), but here are a few highlights.

Whedon wanted the series to be about “how politics affect people personally. And the personal politics are the only politics that really interest me. I'm not going to make this big, didactic polemic—I'm just going to say, »

Kit Williamson on the Different Worlds of “Mad Men” and Season 2 of “EastSiders”

8 May 2014 12:53 PM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Trevor Einhorn (l) and Kit Williamson (r) on Mad Men. (AMC)

Kit Williamson is finding himself in a pretty good place these days. He has his recurring role of Ed Gifford on the uber-popular AMC series Mad Men, which is currently airing the first half of its seventh and final season. And then, on the opposite side of the spectrum, he has his popular online series EastSiders, which we’re big fans of here at TheBacklot. The series follows Williamson’s Cal in his relationship with Thom (the newly out Van Hansis) as well as their circle of friends.

As is the case in the entertainment business, it all comes down to money and while EastSiders has planned a second season, much of it ever coming to life depends on the success of a new Kickstarter campaign to raise production funds. But Kit and the gang have a few other ideas where you can help. »

Son Of Batman - The Crowd Gets Confrontational at WonderCon Panel

23 April 2014 8:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I don’t know what was in the water at WonderCon this year, but the animosity from the crowd during the Son of Batman presentation on Saturday was palpable. Had DC Animation’s latest offering been a bad film, perhaps it would have warranted the kinds of questions and challenges the audience were posing. But the movie, which premiered before the panel, was very well done, packing in plenty of humor and lots of surprisingly graphic action (full review coming soon). The audience received it well, but then the Q&A session started and all hell broke loose.

The gracious panel consisted of producer James Tucker, voice director Andrea Romano, character designer Phil Bourassa, and members of the cast including Jason O'Mara (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Stuart Allan (Damian Wayne), Xander Berkeley (Kirk Langstrom), and Sean Maher (Nightwing). There was a lot of love thrown Romano’s way, with every other »

Son Of Batman — Damian Attacks Clip, 3 Images, WonderCon Premier Details

15 April 2014 10:45 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

In the newest clip from Son of Batman, Damian Wayne attacks shrubbery (I'm not joking). The clip doesn't really get me excited for the movie. The blocking just really falls flat visually, but then again it's a fairly mundane scene. I fully expect the more action filled parts to be stronger.

They will be premiering Son of Batman at WonderCon on Friday, April 18th at 6pm in The Arena after the panel. The cast and crew in attendance will be Jason O'Mara (Batman), Sean Maher (Nightwing), Xander Berkeley (Langstrom), Stuart Allan (Damian) -- and filmmakers James Tucker (producer), Ethan Spaulding (director), Phil Bourassa (character designer), and Andrea Romano (dialogue director).

These panels are always a lot of fun, and being able to watch the movie after is just the cherry on top. Son of Batman comes to Blu-ray on May 6th. Wonder if there is a scene with Batman searching for a shrubbery (Ni! »
