The Ad-Lib – 10 Great Moments of Improvisation in Film

3 September 2012 4:12 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

“The thing about improvisation is that it’s not about what you say. It’s listening to what other people say. It’s about what you hear”

Paul Merton

It’s something of an unwritten rule for any stage performer that you must, at the drop of a hat, be able to think on your feet and react off script to something unexpected, whether it be an unsuitable interruption or a gaffe. Remaining organic in your presentation is the key, being in control of your performance is paramount. This trait extends to actors also, whether the thespians or the movie stars, and improv classes are usually a must, particularly when it comes to some free flow directors.

Although this diligence often goes unseen in a business as taciturn and unsentimental as cinema, when a moment occurs in which a star lives in their part sufficiently to improvise, to throw in an entertaining ad lib, »

Lindsay Lohan Wants a New Actor for Liz and Dick?

23 May 2012 10:44 AM, PDT | National Ledger | See recent National Ledger news »

Lindsay Lohan is very unhappy with the actors who have auditioned for the role of Richard Burton in her new TV movie. The troubled actress is set to play the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor in 'Liz and Dick', but is not content with the possible choices - Matthew Settle, Sean Maguire and Craig Robert Young - and wants new auditions to take place in London. A source told RadarOnline.com: ''Lindsay declared that none of the actors were the right fit and that she wanted to go to London to look for a possible Burton actor there. ''Lindsay is being an absolute nightmare about who should play Burton. She believes Matthew Settle is too old to play the role, and she wants a major A-list star to be her co-star. ''However, her salary for the role took up a major portion of the budget, and the Burton gig will likely only pay $200,000, max. »

Lindsay Lohan reportedly unhappy with ‘Liz and Dick’ casting

22 May 2012 8:11 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

HollywoodNews.com: Lindsay Lohan is reportedly working hard getting ready to film the Elizabeth Taylor Lifetime biopic ‘Liz and Dick,’ but it sounds like there is one thing stalling the process.

It is being rumored that Lindsay is unhappy with the casting choices for the role of Richard Burton, states RadarOnline. The current choices are allegedly ‘Gossip Girl’ star Matthew Settle, Sean Maguire, and ‘CSI’ star Craig Robert Young.

She allegedly wants a major star, but considering her salary took up a lot of the budget, it’s pretty unlikely that she’ll get what she wants.

Who do you think should play him?

Inside Nature's Giants: Kangaroo

8pm, Channel 4

It seems that the Inside Nature's Giants team are starting to struggle with the self-imposed limits of their show's title. The subject of tonight's dissection, the kangaroo, can certainly grow to a decent size, but it scarcely qualifies as "giant". The leaping marsupials are nevertheless fascinating, and the episode expands into a wider exploration of the enthralling weirdness of Australia's fauna. Simon Watt, accompanied by Charles Darwin's great-great-grandson, heads into the Blue Mountains to meet Australia's peculiar zoo of egg-laying mammals and birds keen on interior decor. Natalie Haynes's guide to TV detectives: #6 – Scott & Bailey

2 April 2012 4:25 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

It's been described as Cagney and Lacey in Manchester, but the ITV1 series has a whole squad of strong female characters

Scott & Bailey walks a fine line between being good and being silly. On the silly side, the dialogue is sometimes clunky (surely no one says: "What the hell on earth just happened?". Even in a moment of crisis, we know that hell and earth are separate places, whether you live in Manchester or not).

The setup doesn't quite gel with the series either: Rachel Bailey (lovely Suranne Jones) is an up-and-coming superstar cop, and when we first meet her, she's having her heart broken by sleazy barrister Nick Savage. After a long relationship, she suddenly discovers that he's married with children. Since they come up against each other in court a few episodes later, it seems likely that they would have met each other professionally at some point. It does, »

The Little Paris Kitchen: Cooking With Rachel Khoo | The Tube | Scott And Bailey | The Anti-Social Network | Dirk Gently | Storyville: The Reluctant Revolutionary

The Little Paris Kitchen: Cooking With Rachel Khoo

8.30pm, BBC2

Rachel Khoo is a Croydon-born cordon bleu chef who runs a minuscule restaurant in her Parisian studio apartment. She demonstrates how easy it is to cook fabulous food in a bohemian hovel and she looks like a doll. It's all very appealing. Tonight, she prepares lamb stew and dainty cakes for tea with her friends, who practically have to sit on each other's laps. It's not breaking the mould in terms of cooking shows, but it's quite hard to take your eyes off Khoo when she's bounding though a street market, clutching a basket like Little Red Riding Hood.
