Hannibal, Ep. 3.05, “Contorno” is disjointed, but immensely entertaining

3 July 2015 7:36 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 5, “Contorno”

Written by Tom de Ville and Bryan Fuller & Steve Lightfoot

Directed by Guillermo Navarro

Airs Thursdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC

In my review of “Aperitivo”, I called for Hannibal to find a sweet spot between the slow-moving introspection of “Secondo” and plot-heavy momentum of “Aperitivo”. “Contorno” does just that, though not in the way expected. The first half of the episode crawls (particularly the scenes with Will and Chiyoh), dragging its feet to prevent the characters from intersecting, before the second half throws this concern out the window and sprints forward, bringing first Pazzi and Hannibal, then Hannibal and Alana, and finally Jack and Hannibal together in memorable and electrifying exchanges. One can almost see showrunner Bryan Fuller reach his limit with angsty, mini-Hannibal Will and decide to chuck him off the train rather than write one more doom-laden conversation between him and Chiyoh. »

"Hannibal" Review & Recap: Season 3, Episode 5, "Contorno"

Mads Mikkelsen in "Hannibal"Photo: NBC Wait... so she really did throw him from the trainc The fifth episode of this third season of "Hannibal", titled "Contorno", was a weird one for me. For one I appreciate the fact we're all caught up, but at the same time I don't feel as if aspects of what we're dealing with entirely work. That said, once Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) gets rolling it's impossible to say anything negative about this show, as you'd much rather just sit back and watch. This week's episode begins with Will (Hugh Dancy) and Chiyo (Tao Okamoto) heading to Florence to hunt Hannibal. Their scenes are overly dramatic and begin spelling things out we are already more than aware of. Chiyo says to Will, "If you don't kill him, you are worried you are going to become him." Is anyone not clear on this yetc In fact, scratch that, »

The Strain Season 2: Carlton Cuse Talks Deviating From the Book & Corey Stoll’s Wig

20 May 2015 7:18 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first season of the FX horror series The Strain, created by Guillermo del Toro, was a fun and action-packed take on the downfall of civilization at the hands of a virulent vampire plague. The series had knockout creature effects and put a unique spin on vampire mythology, taking a truly monstrous approach to the blood-sucking beasts. It also featured Corey Stoll in a wig. Steve recently caught up with showrunner Carlton Cuse at the junket for San Andreas and was able to speak with him briefly about the second season. While season one followed Stoll's band of survivors as they came to terms with the reality of vampires, the second season will see them go on the offense, and from the sound of it, it may see the end of Stoll's hair piece too. Check out their conversation and some quotes below and be aware there major season one spoilers. »

The Strain Season 2 Will Be Unleashed In July

FX announced yesterday that the second season of The Strain, its hit vampire thriller series, will premiere July 12 at 10 p.m.

The series, from showrunner Carlton Cuse (LostBates Motel) and co-creators Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak) and Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves – which was adapted into The Town), centers on the efforts of a ragtag band of heroes led by a Cdc scientist (Corey Stoll) to defeat a vampire epidemic spreading through New York City. In the second season, the team’s attempt to defeat the all-powerful Master has failed, and the epidemic continues to spread. With no backup and a limited amount of time to end the madness once and for all, it’s up to the citizens of NYC to fight or die.

Last summer, The Strain became the most-watched new scripted series on all basic and pay cable networks in the coveted adults 18-9 demographic. »

Fight Or Die In First Trailer For The Strain Season 2

5 May 2015 9:44 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

FX’s The Strain was one of the more enjoyable shows of last summer, a knowingly ridiculous but still deliciously creepy thriller about the spread of a vampire epidemic through modern New York City. After a crazy cliffhanger of a season finale in which the ancient Master escaped the clutches of vampire hunters including Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) and Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the series will finally be returning at some point this summer, and FX has allowed the first footage from season 2 to escape quarantine (via EW).

Though the first season mostly saw the vampire epidemic spread quietly underground, that’s definitely no longer the case. “We’re going to take back this island one block at a time,” a city councilwoman (fresh face Samantaha Mathis) declares to the human survivors. The Master and his army of strigoi aren’t going to make that easy, but at least she »
