Major Malayalam actor and director of the 60s and 70s. Graduated from Benares Hindu University and later took a diploma in acting from the National School of Drama. He often played the sad and suffering lover. He gained major acclaim after Chemmeen (1965) which established him as a character actor. After that he acted regularly in independent productions. His fist directorial venture was 'Priya' (1970) which received major critical acclaim. Founded the Uma Studio in Trivandrum (Kerala, India).

Owner of the renowned Uma studio. Also founded the extremely successful Saraswathi Vidyalaya school, in Trivandrum, to educate college students.
Probably best known for his performance as "Pareekkutty" in the film Chemmeen (1967). His lines from that film are often quoted, particularly by mimicry artists.
Was an English College lecturer prior to becoming an actor in the Malayalam Cinema in the sixties. He joined the National school of Drama in order to learn acting.
While his real name is Madhavan Nair, actor Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, a fellow actor, decided to give him a new, shorter name: from then onwards he become known as simply "Madhu".
