Over the last few months, I have had the opportunity to watch over 30 new 2011 TV shows in advance, and have narrowed down the best new fall series’ in two categories: addictive and intriguing (must-see weekly viewing worthy of potential overanalysis), and guilty pleasurable (watch, enjoy, move on with your week).
*Caveat: I did not have access to NBC screeners; thus, none of their new shows were eligible to make this list.
Addictive & Intriguing
1. Once Upon a Time (ABC) @OnceABC
Once Upon a Time is a very clever, whimsical and dark spin on familiar tales from childhood. It is easily the most unique series to debut this fall, with »

First the bad news: Doctor Who will be over for a while, after October 1. That’s when the season 6 finale airs on BBC America. They are trying to lessen the blow though, bless ‘em, by starting us on a new series directly afterwards. Check out the tv spot:

Here’s a brief summary:

The conversion of Bedlam Heights from a former insane asylum has awakened the ghosts of its dark and violent past. These spirits wish to reclaim what’s theirs and seek revenge on those who have wronged them.

ABC's Revenge premieres on Wednesday, September 21st at 10 Pm Et, and we've got pics of the too-hot-to-be-real cast and scenes from the first episode.
Emily Van Camp (who we last saw escaping the Walker family on Brothers & Sisters) stars as a young woman who returns to her home town with one thing on her mind ... vengeance!
And this time ... it's personal!
The cast includes Connor Paolo (who hopefully will have more to do here than on Gossip Girl), Joshua Bowman (who is not only one of the Hot Men of Fall TV, but played a bisexual teen in the ABC Family series Make It Or Break It), and Roswell star Nick Wechsler.
Reportedly, in the third episode, a gay character will be introduced, who's described as a Talented Mr. Ripley type. »

Picture a former mental asylum that has been spruced up to hide all the atrocities that were committed there. A fresh coat of paint, some wallpaper here, new shrubbery there; and the place is as good as new. And then the owners turn it into an apartment block. Great thinking, but as we know, you can't hide the ghosts with a simple trip to Sherwin-Williams. This is "Bedlam."
Originally airing in February and March on UK's Sky Living HD Channel, "Bedlam" will be making its domestic debut in October as part of BBC America's Supernatural Saturdays. One of the three series creators, David Allison, and star Theo James sat down with us at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 to discuss the series' jump across the pond.
"It's a six-part supernatural series that was a hit in the UK," Allison said. "It was in development for five years and is a part »

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.

If you watch network TV then there is no way you haven’t seen James Tupper. From ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Samantha Who, and Men in Trees to NBC’s Mercy, Tupper has more than his fair share of experience with series TV, and TVLine brings word that he is once again calling ABC home as he steps into a fatherly role in the new fall series, Revenge.
The new show is about Emily Thorne’s (Emily Van Camp) quest for revenge against those who wronged her father (Tupper). In the original pilot, Marc Blucas portrayed the father but he moved on to USA’s Necessary Roughness so Tupper stepped in. While the part is a recurring gig, the father will only be seen in flashbacks throughout the series. Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny, Gabriel Mann, Connor Paolo, Nick Wechsler and Ashley Madekwe also star.

ABC has a slew of new shows coming, many of which need a lot of luck if they're going to last more than a handful of episodes. The schedule has been released, so let's take a lot at what's coming.
Oddly enough, as part of the new announcement, ABC has solidified the return of several more shows, including Happy Endings, despite the fact that two other networks have shows on their slate with cast members from the show. That should be interesting. Of course, it works for me, because I'm a fan.
In other news, Desperate Housewives will not die. Are you kidding me with this show still being on?

ABC has turned to classic literature for the inspiration for its soapy new drama "Revenge."
The series, which will air at 10 p.m. Et Wednesdays in the fall, is based loosely on "The Count of Monte Cristo" as it follows a young woman (Emily VanCamp of "Brothers & Sisters" and "Everwood") who's out to bring down the wealthy, powerful people who ruined her family.
She returns to her former home in the Hamptons and sets out to get her own kind of justice. The show from creator Mike Kelley ("Swingtown") also stars Madeleine Stowe, Gabriel Mann, Ashley Madekwe, Henry Czerny, Nick Wechsler, Josh Bowman, Christa B. Allen and Connor Paolo. Here's a clip from the pilot:
Chicago – NBC & Fox released their schedules already this week and there are a few interesting highlights, but ABC has released easily the most aggressive and ambitious new slate of programs, which will feature at least one new program five nights a week. Overall, they’re debuting seven new programs in the Fall alone, clearly trying to cement an exciting schedule before the mid-season instead of holding back programs for 2012.

As far as returning series go, “Cougar Town” will not return until 2012, allowing the promising “Happy Endings” to move into a great spot, post-“Modern Family.” (Thank you ABC. Thank you.) “Happy Endings” and “Extreme Makover: Home Edition” (which will be on Fridays now) are the only returning shows moving as ABC had enough to worry about with new shows and are keeping “Dancing With the Stars,” “Castle,” “Body of Proof,” “The Middle,” “Modern Family, »

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room »
