MacFarlane, Blitt team for 'Glen'

8 December 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is venturing into live-action comedy series. MacFarlane has teamed with writer-producer Ricky Blitt, a Family Guy alum, to resurrect Blitt's 2002 comedy pilot Becoming Glen. The reworked project has become a hot item, with CBS, NBC and Fox vying for it. The show, from 20th Century Fox Television, is expected to fetch a pilot order with a series penalty. Blitt said he has been "warmed by the three networks' reception of the project." "They all called me and are all very passionate about it," he said. "I get very few calls, so they gave me an instant social life." »

'Dad' has its day with new Fox order

3 June 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Fox has given a 13-episode order to the freshman animated comedy American Dad, which already had secured a spot on the network's fall schedule. American Dad, from 20th Century Fox TV and creators/executive producers Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, had an original order of 19 episodes, including the pilot. Four have aired so far, with several more slated to run in the summer. Because Fox already had ordered several additional scripts of Dad, production on the new batch of 13 episodes will start immediately, and the segments will become available in the spring. The new 13-episode order ensures that Dad will stay in continuous production. 20th TV had committed to producing 35 new episodes of MacFarlane's other animated show Family Guy even before Fox optioned to bring the once-canceled show back on the air, so the network will now have enough originals of both series for the upcoming season as well as the beginning of the 2006-07 season. Dad, which premiered last month after a high-profile preview following the Super Bowl, centers on a family man who works for the CIA and is on constant lookout for terrorist activity. Barker and Weitzman are set to continue as showrunners on the show, which airs at 9:30 p.m. Sundays after Family Guy. »
