Michel Piccoli, We Have a Pope

Nanni Moretti's Habemus Papam / We Have a Pope was the top movie of 2011 according to the Cahiers du Cinéma editors and film critics. The Cahiers du Cinéma list is available in the December print edition of the French magazine.

A Vatican-set satire about a newly elected, psychologically fragile pope (European Film Award Lifetime Achievement winner Michel Piccoli) and his therapist (Moretti himself), earlier this year We Have a Pope won six awards from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists, including Best Director and Best Producer (there's no Best Film category). Margherita Buy co-stars as another psychotherapist.

Tied in second place were Manoel de Oliveira's Portuguese drama O Estranho Caso de Angélica / The Strange Case of Angelica, about a photographer (Ricardo Trêpa) who becomes obsessed with the dead daughter (Pilar López de Ayala) of a wealthy hotel owner, and Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, »

New Intruders Imagery Invades the Interwebs

A new image gallery for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's Intruders has slipped online showing, well, a whole hell of a lot of nothing. Still, we'd rather that than have the whole flick given away!

Intuders, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, stars Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, and Kerry Fox.

Details are still scant, but according to director Fresnadillo, "The film centers on the origin of the monsters that are born in childhood and are passed on by the family. Clive looks like a normal man, even heroic, who has a range that can take him to the dark side and allows him to travel the entire trajectory of the character."

So what kind of monsters is Owen harboring in his closet? Spain will find out on October 7th while the rest of us will have to wait awhile. Dig on one new image below, »

Intruders (2011) Movie Trailer: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Ella Purnell

Intruders Trailer. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo‘s Intruders (2011) movie trailer stars Ella PurnellClive Owen, Daniel Bruhl, Carice van Houten, and Kerry Fox. Intruders‘ plot synopsis: “The film tells the story of two children separated by thousands of miles, who feel fear when the night comes as ‘something’ stalks them. On one side is John, who is visited each night of a monster that sneaks through the window. On the other side, is Mia who is unable to sleep because she knows that someone is hiding in the darkness of your closet. Both of their concerns will become greater if their parents also witness the apparition.”

Not bad, cool storyline. They establish that everything may not be what it seems, especially with Clive Owen’s character.

Intruders also stars Pilar López de Ayala, Lolita Chakrabarti, Mark Wingett, Adam Leese, and Imogen Gray.
