Director: Nick Lyon.
Writers: Brooks Peck and Craig Engler.
2012: Zombie Apocalypse or the simpler Zombie Apocalypse is a The Asylum production. The Asylum generally knocks off bigger productions e.g. Battle Los Angeles. Occasionally, they will come up with something original and this is great for the SyFy Network and their "SyFy Original Movie" premieres. Zombie Apocalypse aired on television Saturday, October 30th and this is a tale of survivors trying to get to Catalina. Unfortunately, there are a million zombies in their way and strangely, it looks like the same zombies are being killed over and over again.
Julian (Johnny Pacar), Ramona (Taryn Manning), Henry (Ving Rhames), Cassie (Lesley Ann-Brandt), Billy (Eddie Steeples), Mack (Gary Weeks) Kevin (Gerald Webb) and a few others team up to battle the undead after the "VM2" is released across the globe. The VM2 is a virus that infects the host and makes them uber violent. »

I rather enjoy how a zombie fleeing from certain death... uh, re-death... inspires Ving Rhames to declare the zombies are getting smarter in this clip from this Saturday’s Syfy premiere of Zombie Apocalyse, and then seconds later we see a zombie spastically windmilling its arms as it charges forth.
The Asylum-produced Nick Lyon film stars Ving Rhames and Taryn Manning as survivors of a zombie plague that has wiped out 90% of the American populace on a perilous trek to the rumored refuge of the island of Catalina.
It premieres on Syfy October 29th at 9/8 Central with a replay four hours later.
If you miss it, then you’ll have to wait until December 27th, when it gets released on DVD under the title 2012: Zombie Apocalypse.

By this time next week the 2011 New York Comic Con will be wrapping up for another year, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves -- there are panels to see and toys to buy first! Here's a look at the horror highlights along with a few other genre-related appearances that should be of interest to our readers.
Thursday, October 13th, is void of horror (might be a good shopping day) so this list just covers the 14th-16th. It is, of course, subject to change so if you're going, keep your eyes on the official New York Comic Con website.

How's this for a fast turnaround? The Asylum’s Zombie Apocalypse was first announced in March, first word of the production came in August, the trailer premiered earlier this month, and now Syfy schedules it premiere Halloween weekend. Talk about a rushed production. They'll sleep when they're dead, I guess.
The Nick Lyon film starring Ving Rhames and Taryn Manning as survivors of a zombie apocalypse on a trek to the rumored refuge of Catalina island premieres on Syfy October 29th at 9/8 Central with a replay four hours later.
Fyi - That's a full two months before the previously announced December 29th DVD release date.
If you haven't already checked out the Zombie Apocalypse trailer have a look. I know people have their preconceived notions when it comes to Asylum productions but this does not look like their typical output.

Ving Rhames, man. He's turning into this generation's Ken Foree in terms of being on tap to kill zombies (though Foree will always be more badass). In any event, the trailer for The Asylum's Zombie Apocalypse is here, and we have every dreaded pixel of it awaiting your consumption.
The award-winning co-star of the Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead remakes leads Taryn Manning (Hustle & Flow), Lesley Ann Brandt (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), Johnny Pacar (“Make It or Break It”), and Eddie Steeples (“My Name is Earl”) into battle against the walking dead in this gore-soaked zomsploitation flick from writers Craig Engler and Brooks Peck and Species: The Awakening director Nick Lyon.
The Asylum’s Zombie Apocalypse infects DVD shelves on December 27th. We’ll keep you posted on this one.

Today is a good day to be a zombie fan folks, as The Asylum and director Nick Lyon (Species: The Awakening) have debuted the first teaser trailer for Zombie Apocalypse. There are make-up effects, pitched battles and actress Taryn Manning in a shower scene, all in under two minutes. The clip shows solid production values and The Asylum, from the promotional material, seems to be backing a winner here based on the story and the cast. Also starring are Ving Rhames (Dawn of the Dead), Gary Weeks (Deadland), Johnny Pacar (The Dead Undead) and Lesley-Ann Brandt (InSight).
This title will debut on television first through the SyFy Network. The first air date is October 29th at 9:00pm and this is just two weeks after the premiere of "The Walking Dead." Perhaps there is a competitive air afoot. Then, not much later, The Asylum will release this title on DVD December 27th. »

If memory serves, Asylum hasn't produced a zombie film since the mixed bag that was I am Omega. We'll in the wake of Walking Dead, the upcoming World War Z film and, well, just zombie mania in general, the famous mockbuster production company is bringing the dead back to life in Zombie Apocalypse.
Synopsis:
Zombie Apocalypse is an action packed adventure about a band of humans trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world full of flesh-hungry zombies.
Months after a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the American population, a small group of survivors fight their way cross-country to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina.
The films has managed to get a cast in Ving Rhames, Taryn Manning, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Johnny Pacar, and Eddie Steeples star in the film directed by Nick Lyon.

The Asylum is currently producing an apocalyptic world of zombies with actors Ving Rhames (Dawn of the Dead), Taryn Manning (The Speed of Thought) and Gary Weeks (Deadland). This latest from this mockbuster production company is called The Last Stand or simply Zombie Apocalypse. Fans of the post-apocalyptic zombie thriller can have a look at several photos for this feature below, which shows actor Ving Rhames golfing with zombies and other photos show the zombie make-up effects. This title is slated for a Fall release on DVD.
The Asylum is notorious for creating lower budgeted features based closely on upcoming blockbusters. For instance, they created Battle of Los Angeles to release close to the multi-million dollar feature
Battle: Los Angeles. They created Transmorphers to satirize or capitalize on the success of Transformers. Now, they seem poised to strike at the looming success of World War Z, starring Brad Pitt. Or, »

Perhaps the most shocking aspect of The Asylum’s upcoming undead epic “Zombie Apocalypse” — which, according to the company, is their biggest production to-date — is that they somehow managed to wrangle veteran actor Ving Rhames for use in their motion picture. Does this mean that The Asylum is moving up in the cinematic world, or, alternatively, could it mean that Rhames is slowly sinking into the direct-to-video mire? Doesn’t matter, really. Rhames in a movie by The Asylum seems like a win-win situation. For me, anyway. How’s this for an involved plot synopsis: Zombie Apocalypse is an action packed adventure about a band of humans trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world full of flesh-hungry zombies. Nick Lyon’s “Zombie Apocalypse”, which stars Ving Rhames, Taryn Manning, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Johnny Pacar, and Eddie Steeples, is scheduled to eat your brains this fall »

I recall Ving Rhames saying in an interview around the time of the Dawn of the Dead remake’s release that he wasn’t a fan of horror movies. He must have since discovered an affinity for zombie flicks because Zombie Apocalypse marks his third go-round with the living dead.
Now here’s the part that might be most surprising to you. The Asylum is behind this particular Zombie Apocalypse. The film is being touted as possibly their biggest to date, which should be apparent since Ving Rhames could very well be the biggest name actor the mockbuster masters have gotten to star in one of their films yet.
