Jennifer Lynch’s laugh sounds just like you’d expect it to: full of mischievous fun, raspy and more than a little dirty. It’s refreshing to hear that even after her savaged 1993 film debut “Boxing Helena” and a string of spinal surgeries that kept her from making another movie for 15 years, she’s still eager to unleash that laugh, even at her own expense. Her next two films, “Surveillance” (2008) and “Hisss” (2010), failed to find audiences, and “Chained” has run afoul of an Nc-17 rating from the MPAA before it can be released. Nothing has quite gone her way, despite being the only daughter of “Blue Velvet” writer-director David Lynch. Even so, the 44-year-old writer-director is moving forward with her next project, a thriller called “A Fall From Grace” that stars Un Certain Regard jury president Tim Roth as a St. Louis detective tortured by his inability to stop a killer of young. »

Tim Roth is currently busy cramming in as much movie-viewing as he can in between meeting with his fellow judges on the Un Certain Regard jury in Cannes. But he’s also locked in a new starring role, signing on to lead Jennifer Lynch’s new film, A Fall From Grace. The movie, written by Eric Wilkinson, finds Roth as a homicide detective tracking down a serial killer. But there’s more to it than that, according to the director. “It’s about a lot of dark, taboo issues, but it’s really a drama about wounds,” Lynch tells The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll be hoping for better luck than with her last effort, Bollywood horror action thriller Hisss, which faced major issues during production (chronicled in documentary Despite The Gods) and arrived to poisonous reviews. The director also has serial killer thriller Chained awaiting release.Roth will next be seen in Arbitrage and Broken. »

If Tim Roth can sneak away from his duties as head of the Un Certain Regard jury, he’s likely to be found huddling with director Jennifer Lynch, since he’s been tapped to star in his next project A Fall From Grace, which is looking to begin filming this summer in St. Louis, Mo. Roth is to play a homicide detective on the trail of a serial killer. Photos: Cannes Day 6: 'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet!' John Gilling's The Reptile seems a prosaic enough Hammer Horror production on paper. A toothsome, venomous horror stalks a remote Cornish village, preying on anyone who wanders up to the manse late at night or takes a wrong turn on the moor. Add some slightly ill-considered exoticism to the mix - the savage cults of the East and their heathen magical rites, so on, so forth - and you'd think this was a sixties take on Jennifer Lynch's disastrous Hisss.Despite the threadbare effects, though, and an ending that staggers across the finish line, The Reptile is an oddly restrained, moving, even genuinely eerie little film from the cult production house. No gore, scream queens, heaving cleavage or flirtation with softcore fanservice (okay, don't all leave »

Me Tarzan, You Motion Capture: Actually, both Jane and Tarzan will be rendered as performance-capture characters in a new 3D version of Tarzan, with Twilight’s Kellan Lutz as the titular hero and the lovely Spencer Locke as Jane. In the modernized tale, Tarzan and Jane will fight a mercenary army formed and funded by an evil CEO. We wonder if Tarzan will be barely-dressed, swing on vines, and inclined to man-handle Jane, as in Disney’s 1999 version, above? [The Hollywood Reporter] Less Intense, Please: As told by Jennifer Lynch, director of the upcoming Chained, her movie received an Nc-17 rating from the MPAA because of the “context” of a scene in which a woman’s throat is slit open. She feels, though, that the film is being...

Some more always entertaining and headache-inducing MPAA news has come our way concerning Jennifer Lynch's new film Chained, which was slapped with an Nc-17 earlier this week. Lynch will be recutting the film for an R rating but seems pretty bewildered by the board's decision. Read on!
Speaking to The La Times Lynch discussed the rating and more. "The one thing they [the appeals board] kept citing was context, that violence in a lot of other films doesn’t feel as intense. I have a lot of compassion for what [the MPAA] does. And they were all very nice and warm in the room. But it doesn’t seem fair to me. I feel like we are being punished because the film was done the way it was set out to be done, which was authentically... Horror fans will see it and be stunned at the Nc-17. They’ve seen much worse."

Since the MPAA ratings board routinely bestows an R rating on movies with the most sadistic non-sexual violence, industry watchers on Tuesday were speculating about the content of Jennifer Lynch’s new movie Chained, whose Nc-17 rating was upheld by the MPAA’s Classification and Rating Administration. It marks the second time that a Lynch film has been tagged with the rating that limits its ability to advertise (some newspapers refused to carry ads for Nc-17-rated movies) and to be distributed to theaters (some theater chains refuse to screen such films). Anchor Bay, which is distributing Chained, has not yet indicated whether it will remove or drastically edit the offending scenes. However, judging from the trailer, the movie appears to feature a series of grisly murders committed by a taxi driver who takes the son of one of his victims into his home as a veritable slave and accomplice. »

Both good news and bad news for director Jennifer Lynch and her new movie Chained. Anchor Bay has picked up the distro rights, and the MPAA has slapped it with an Nc-17 rating for "some explicit violence", thereby proving that they're just making shit up as they go along.
Look for more on the film starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Julia Ormond, Jake Weber, Eamon Farren, Conor Leslie, and Evan Bird soon.
Synopsis
Eight-year-old Tim and his mother, Sarah, are picked up by Bob, a deranged taxi cab driver on the hunt for his next victim. Tim witnesses his first murder, the murder of his mother, but it would not be his last. Bob keeps Tim as a reluctant protégé, forcing him to clean and bury the bodies of the young women he drags home. Now a teenager, Tim must make a life or death choice between following in Bob's footsteps or breaking free from his captor. »

On and on goes the saga of the MPAA ratings appeals. Sometimes it's part of a big publicity stunt (think anything Weinstein); sometimes the MPAA just gets it wrong ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower" had its rating changed earlier this year). And sometimes the appeals have been frivolous. The failed appeal of Jennifer Lynch's new film, "Chained," would seem to fall into the last category. The film stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Eamon Farren and Julia Ormond; Anchor Bay is the distributor. We haven't seen it yet (and no date is set), but take a look at a synopsis, courtesy of Horror-Movies.ca: Eight-year-old Tim and his mother, Sarah, are picked up by Bob, a deranged taxi cab driver on the hunt for his next victim. "Despite the Gods"
Aussie filmmaker Penny Vozniak's "Lost in La Mancha"-esque documentary “Despite The Gods," following director Jennifer Lynch and her experiences making her third film in India, is a low budget docu-delight. Lynch is the beating, empathic heart of the film, an endearing combination of raw emotional honesty and self-deprecating humor. After surviving a critical flogging at 19 for her first film "Boxing Helena," and enjoying the relative success of her second film "Surveillance," Lynch still had a lot to prove with her third film. However it is clear from day one this will not be the film she envisions it to be. The film in question is "Hisss," a Bollywood action tale of a snake that turns into a woman, and then back again. Though Vozniak's film is an interesting look behind the scenes at some the challenges of being an American director shooting in India (no »

"This is mayhem. This is India. Isn't it beautiful?" This observation to the camera, uttered by a crew member at one point during a bit of down-time during the shooting of Bollywood horror-fantasy Hisss, nearly encapsulates things in a single thought. A rare Us/India co-production involving an indie director Jennifer Lynch, and collaborating with significant Bollywood stars Mallika Sherawat and Irrfan Kahn, featured a six million dollar budget an and heavy media spotlight. Chaos and confusion is nothing new to film sets (or any creative process) but Lynch seems ill prepared for the trial-by-fire culmination the language barrier with her Indian crew, a producer who is the Bollywood super-star's brother, and the seemingly never-ending battle with nature, cities and the culture. To top things off Lynch, who is a single »

If you are a horror fan annd heard about Jennifer Lynch's film Hisss, and then wondered, "What the fuck happened to that film Hisss?", you need to see another film called Despite the Gods, a documentary about what went wrong with Hisss.
Despite the Gods, as a behind-the-scenes documentary was unplanned and organic. Filmmaker Penny Vozniak was in Mumbai, India for a few days en route to Kabul where she had a film in development. In Mumbai, coincidentally, Jennifer Lynch had started shooting her Bollywood horror film about a woman who can change into a snake. In an unlikely twist of fate, Vozniak ended up meeting Lynch and being asked to stay and shoot some footage.
"I was asked to babysit the daughter of Jennifer Lynch as a favour to my old friend Govind Menon," explains Vozniak. "After only a few days with Jennifer we became fast friends and »

Back in 2010, Mallika Sherawat was seen raving about her then to be released "Hollywood" flick Hisss, not just in India but also at Cannes film festival. The film which was originally set to be directed by Jennifer Lynch took a turn for the worse during its making with Lynch being ousted by none other than Mallika's brother Vikram Singh, who was also the film's producer. However now, more than a year later, Lynch who is visibly still fuming with the farce that Hisss created, will be lashing out at Mallika, her brother Vikram Singh and Govind Menon, through a documentary film titled Despite The Gods. Directed by Penny Vozniak, Despite The Gods, is a documentary that showcases the behind the scenes of what went wrong with Lynch and her Indian tryst while shooting Hisss and will open in Toronto this year. The documentary explains the journey of how Lynch traveled to India to direct Hisss, »

Some artwork, plot details and a trailer have floated our way for Snake Club: Revenge of the Snake Woman, which recently wrapped up post-production and is now seeking a home via TomCat Films.
David Palmieri directed this tale of an ancient legend named Lamia - a beautiful queen and adultress. Her lover was put to death and she was transformed into a snake, roaming the earth on her belly, she murders and enslaves the innocent until the gods turn her into a stone statue... She now waits for her time to return.
Sounds like a terrific movie to pair up with Jennifer Lynch's Hisss some evening...before you strangle yourself with an electrical cord.

It's quite the quandary if you perhaps suffer from Ophidiophobia (the fear of snakes) yet absolutely love a gorgeous hottie because David Palmieri's new horror 'Snake Club: Revenge of the Snake Woman' manages to couple the two ideas into a melting pot of sexy thrills. But more notably the TomCat Films production, which has unleashed a new trailer, stars Penthouse Pet of the Year Veronica Ricci (below). The damn sexy pornstar features alongside co-stars Cuyle Carvin and Andrew J McGuinness and also pops up amongst a whole host of sexy snake-like strippers feeding on their latest prey. Of course this isn't the first snake-woman flick to see the light of day recently as you recall Jennifer Chambers Lynch's 'Hisss'. Check out the 'Snake Club' trailer and one-sheet below. »

Want to watch an established director have a complete nervous breakdown while attempting to craft a motion picture in a foreign land? You’re in luck! Penny Vozniak’s upcoming documentary “Despite the Gods” follows Jennifer Lynch as she tries to bring the misguided horror/comedy “Hisss” to fruition. Unfortunately for her, the process is a nightmare. Fortunately for us, her personal turmoil looks insanely entertaining. Thanks, Jennifer! An official synopsis is what you need: Despite the Gods is a feature documentary about Hollywood’s prodigal daughter. Jennifer Lynch is well known for making bold, if not ill-fated, choices in her filmmaking career. But nothing could prepare her for the unmapped territory of Bollywood-Hollywood movie making, where chaos is the process and filmmaking doubles as a crash course in acceptance and self-realization. Check out the latest one-sheet for the flick below. It’s the one nestled beneath the previously-released trailer, »

*Updated with the film's official one-sheet. I absolutely hated Jennifer Lynch's Hisss, which quietly snuck into Red Box's across the Nation last October. It's hard to pinpoint what went wrong, but there were some warning signs last January when it was reported that the flick, starring Mallika Sherawat as snake woman who can take on various forms, was taken away from Lynch in the editing stage. The film sucks, and we know this, but that's beyond the point. Apparently a film crew caught all of the behind-the-scenes drama on camera! Penny Vozniak directs Despite the Gods, a documentary on Hiss set to premiere at the Canadian film festival Hot Docs this coming April. The below trailer is 110% better than Hisss... " 'Despite the Gods' brings us behind the scenes on the set of Lynch's Bollywood/Hollywood action film about a man-eating snake goddess. Out of her depth shooting on location »

Just days after the trailer debut for the documentary flick Despite the Gods, based upon the making of Jennifer Lynch's film Hisss, we now have the artwork. Dig it.
The new documentary Despite the Gods chronicles everything that went wrong on the movie and honestly looks like a pretty incredible film in and of itself. Man, you can really feel for Lynch. Check out the goods below, and look for more soon.
Synopsis
'Despite the Gods' brings us behind the scenes on the set of Lynch's Bollywood/Hollywood action film about a man-eating snake goddess. Out of her depth shooting on location with an Indian crew and two top Bollywood stars, Lynch turns her production into a vehicle for her own self-actualization, paying no regard to timeline, budget or reality. As the story in front of the camera derails, the story behind the camera explodes.
