He designed sets and costumes for plays and operas, including La Scala and England's Glyndebourne Festival. In 1963 he designed the set for Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute".

He was born into a Jewish family. When Mussolini's government passed race laws in 1938, Luzzati moved to Switzerland and attended a fine arts school. After the war, he returned to Italy and began his career as a set designer in Milan. In the 1950s, he concentrated on bas-reliefs and columns. He also created illustrations for children's books, paintings, sculptures, and decor for cruise ships.
