‘The Frontier’ Exclusive Trailer: A Female Drifter Hatches a Plan To Steal Stolen Cash From a Gang of Thieves

Oren Shai’s short films have played festivals across the world and garnered praise along the way, but now his debut film will soon receive a theatrical and VOD release. “The Frontier” stars Jocelin Donahue (“The House of the Devil”) as Laine, a drifter on the run from crimes she has committed who lands in a deserted motel on the outskirts of Phoenix. She acquires a job from the owner Luanne (Kelly Lynch) to work in the diner but soon discovers that the regular clientele are all accomplices in a million-dollar heist. Laine plans to steal from the gang of thieves before they discover her true identity. The film co-stars Jim Beaver (“Deadwood”), Izabella Miko (“Coyote Ugly”), Jamie Harris (“Knight of Cups”), Aj Bowen (“The Sacrament”), and Liam Aiken (“Ned Rifle”). Us Briefs: Berlin shoot begins on Netflix original 'Mute'

Duncan Jones has begun principal photography in Berlin on Netflix’s upcoming 2017 thriller.

Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux star in the project about a mute man searching for a missing person in the year 2052 while duelling with two villains. 

Jones co-wrote the Mute script with Michael Robert Johnson. The filmmaker’s longtime business partner Stuart Fenegan produces for Liberty Films.

Charles J.D. Schlissel serves as executive producer along with Henning Molfenter, Charlie Woebcken and Christoph Fisser of Studio Babelsberg.

Mt. Philo Films has cast Pierson Fode and Sedale Threatt Jr. in It’s Time. Fritz Mitchell is directing from a script by Jeff Sarokin the true story of a friendship that arose from a tragic accident during a 1989 American football college game between Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. The director and Oscar-winning actress will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at this year’s Amd British Academy Britannia Awards presented by Jaguar Land Rover and American Airlines.

The annual BAFTA Los Angeles celebration will take place on October 28 in Beverly Hills.

Foster directed this year’s release Money Monster and recently directed episodes of House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. Her last outing as feature director was 2011’s The Beaver starring Mel Gibson.

A24 has updated release information for 20th Century Women starring Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup and Lucas Jade Zumann. – L.A.-based outfit Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Michael O’Shea’s Cannes premiere “The Transfiguration.” The film was sold by Protagonist Pictures at Toronto, and it marks the feature debut of writer-director Michael O’Shea. The atmospheric feature puts a new spin on the vampire movie.

“Mr. O’Shea’s film is a unique hybrid that audiences and critics will be compelled by,” said Strand Releasing’s partner Jon Gerrans, who discovered the film at Cannes. No word yet on release plans.

– Oscilloscope Laboratories has announced that Joel Potrykus’s latest dark comedy, “The Alchemist Cookbook,” will be available worldwide for pay-what-you-wish via BitTorrent Now on October 7, before it screens in select theaters across the country. »

Daniel Radcliffe is no stranger to genre movies. In fact, most of his career has revolved around the weird, supernatural and down right scary. His next movie is the thriller Jungle, based on a true story. We have a first look at the actor, alone facing god knows what as he treks into a secluded area of the Amazon.

Daniel Radcliffe won't be trudging through this dangerous Jungle by himself. Joining him are Thomas Kretschmann&#160( best known for Avengers: Age of Ultron) and&#160Alex Russell&#160(seen in such genre fare as Chronicle, The Host&#160and Carrie). Us briefs: Paladin acquires 'The Ottoman Lieutenant'

Paladin has picked up Us rights from CAA to Y Production’s The Ottoman Lieutenant starring Michiel Huisman, Hera Hilmar, Josh Hartnett and Ben Kingsley.

The World War I-set drama will receive its North American premiere in Toronto on September 13 and Paladin will stage a limited qualifying run in December prior to the release proper in February 2017.

Y Production produced the film in association with Eastern Sunrise Films. Joseph directed from a screenplay by Jeff Stockwell, and Stephen Joel Brown produced.

Gravitas Ventures has secured North American rights from ICM Partners to Katie Holmes’ feature directorial debut All We Had about a struggling mother and daughter who draw strength from each other. India Eisley, Jason Isaacs Starring in Thriller ‘Behind the Glass’

India Eisley, Jason Isaacs, and Harrison Gilbertson will star in the independent thriller “Behind the Glass,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Israeli filmmaker Assaf Bernstein, “The Debt” helmer, is making his North American directorial debut. Shooting is set to begin this November in Winnipeg.

The production companies are Ace in the Hole Productions, Primary Wave Entertainment, and Dana Lustig Productions. Producers are Gig Kaplan, co-founder of wix.com; Brad Kaplan (“Mr. Church”), and Dana Lustig (“Brick”).

Eisley will play a shy and reclusive 18-year-old high school girl alienated by her parents and known as an outcast by her peers. Her only confidant is her own reflection in the mirror, from which she derives comfort, a sense of belonging, and ultimately, her own demise.

Isaacs, best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” films, will portray her father. Gilbertson will play a young man torn between the love of his girlfriend and her best friend. »

The distributor has picked up Matthew Newton’s award-winning SXSW Narrative Spotlight audience award-winner.

Newton directed From Nowhere from a screenplay he wrote with Kate Ballen about three undocumented high school students in the Bronx who dig into their past when a teacher connects them with a lawyer to help them achieve legal status.

Arclight handles international sales and UTA Independent Film Group and CAA represent Us rights to the film about a trip into the Bolivian Amazon that spirals into a fight for survival.

Daniel Radcliffe is heading down under for the production of Jungle in Queensland.

Queensland is set host the production of major international film, Jungle, which will provide about 100 screen industry jobs and inject $5.4 million into the local economy.

The Arclight Films/Screen Australia production, starring Daniel Radcliffe, is based on Yossi Ghinsberg's bestselling memoir of the same name and will be shot in South East Queensland as well as at Village Roadshow studios.

Jungle is produced by Dana Lustig (Dancing at the Blue Laguna, Thousand Kisses Keep), Gary Hamilton (Lord of War, Bait 3D, The Bank Job), Mike Gabrawy (Resident Evil, Bait 3D, Outcast), and Greg Mclean (Wolf Creek, The Darkness). Executive producer is Todd Fellman (Bait 3D, A Few Best Men).

Daniel Radcliffe-Starrer ‘Jungle’ to Shoot in Australia

Jungle,” a thriller by “Wolf Creek” director Greg McLean and starring Daniel Radcliffe, will shoot in Australia, with Queensland standing in for Venezuela.

The film will shoot at least 50% on location in South East Queensland as well as the Village Roadshow Studios on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Other locations have still to be determined. Production starts in April.

The news was announced Thursday by the state’s Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Scripted by Justin Monjo (“Rush,” “The Untold Story of Inxs”,) the screenplay is based on an internationally bestselling memoir of the same name by Yossi Ghinsberg. It tells the story of four travellers who set off into the heart of the Amazon rainforest on a dream adventure which quickly turns into a nightmare.

Radcliffe stars alongside Queenslanders Alex Russell (“Unbroken”,) Jason Clarke (“Everest,” “Zero Dark Thirty”,) Ryan Corr (“The Water Diviner,” “Where the Wild Things Are”.)

Casting news continues to seep out from the ongoing Berlin Film Festival, and the latest nugget has revealed that Victor Frankenstein star Daniel Radcliffe will make tracks to the Amazon for Greg McLean’s new thriller, Jungle.

Lifting inspiration from Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir about his own trek in the South American forest, McLean’s feature film will chronicle his gruelling journey through the lush wilderness in what is being pitched as a psychological thriller.

Ghinsberg’s troubled expedition has been brought to the screen before, when his adventure was the subject for Discovery Channel’s hour-long docudrama series, I Shouldn’t Be Alive. The title alone ought to give you an indication of the trials and tribulations that the explorer faced when cast astray in the Amazonian jungle. Daniel Radcliffe has joined the cast of "Wolf Creek" helmer Greg McLean's psychological thriller "Jungle" for Arclight Films and Screen Australia

Based on Yossi Ghinsberg's memoir, the story follows the young Israeli adventurer who went into an uncharted part of the Amazon with two friends and a guide in what turned out to be a dangerous and deadly expedition.

Justin Monjo adapted the script while McLean, Dana Lustig, Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy will produce. Filming begins later this year in Australia.
