Empire’s Rogue One Subscriber Cover Spotlights Alan Tudyk’s Towering Droid

22 August 2016 9:21 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Completing its hat-trick of cover reveals, Empire Magazine has today lifted the lid on its minimalist subscriber cover for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which places Alan Tudyk’s towering droid K-2So (Aka Kaytoo) front and center.

Following up on those one-sheets that highlighted both the light and dark side of the Force – not to mention a new image from earlier today that focused on Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) – this latest Rogue One nugget presents the highly-classified schematics for Tudyk’s military enforcer droid, who has already struck a chord with the Star Wars faithful thanks to the film’s trailers.

Fighting for the same cause as Jyn Erso and her “pack of misfits,” it’ll be interesting to discover whether Kaytoo can go on to become the “new Bb-8” of this rebooted Star Wars universe.

Well find out on December 16, when Jones, »

Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic Glowers From Empire's Second Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Cover

While the first cover featured the Rebel heroes, this next one gives us a new look at the main villain of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). We don't know a whole lot about this character, aside from the fact that he's desperate to please The Emperor, and sees Vader and an obstacle on the road to him reaching his full potential in The Empire. Speaking of the Dark Lord of the Sith, with 3 more covers to go there's a decent chance he'll be spotlighted. Keep an eye out for updates, and have another look at that epic new trailer in the meantime.  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. ‘Rogue One’ New Trailer Reveals Major Plot Points

16 August 2016 3:11 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The newest teaser for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” reveals major plot points for the upcoming film.

The international trailer reveals one of the reasons that Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is enlisted for the mission to steal plans for the Death Star: Her father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), alerted the Rebellion regarding the heist.

“The message was sent by your father,” says Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).

The international trailer also gives viewers new looks at the Death Troopers, dressed in all black, as opposed to the white-garbed Stormtroopers seen in the Star Wars enterprise. There’s not much disclosed regarding their role in the film, but they’re thought to be a part of the Empire’s military intelligence division, meaning they’ll most likely fight against Jyn.

NBC aired the first full trailer for the film last week during its Olympic coverage. Other teasers have revealed that Jyn »

The international trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story advances what we know about the first standalone Star Wars film – well, at least an inch or two. In the franchise’s long tradition of paternity reveals, the new clip includes a few seconds not shown in the official domestic trailer released last week during the Olympics: Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor tells Felicity Jones’ rebel Jyn Erso that the message about an imminent major weapons test was (wait for it) “sent by… »

International Rogue One Trailer Reveals a Big Star Wars Secret

15 August 2016 3:22 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week during the Olympics, Disney and Lucasfilm finally gave fans what they have been waiting a very long time for, dropping a new, full-length trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailer debuted a bunch of new footage, and most importantly, gave us our first look at Darth Vader's return. Now, less than a week later, an International trailer for Rogue One has surfaced, with some bits of new footage, and some very important new dialogue.

A Rogue One Japanese trailer made its way onto YouTube Monday, which is a very welcomed surprise given how recently the North American cut of the full-length trailer debuted. In this latest sneak peek, there are a few surprises to take in, including additional dialogue that reveals a pretty big Star Wars secret. How did the Rebels get their hands on the info about the upcoming Death Star weapons test? Mon »

International ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ trailer will have you asking who Jyn’s father is

15 August 2016 2:12 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It’s kind of shocking how little we know about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, considering we know how it ends. At some point, Princess Leia must come into contact with the Rebels that have Death Star plans, and Darth Vader will give chase. Rogue One ending with the Alderaanian ship being hounded by a Star Destroyer wouldn’t be out of the question. But who are the rebels that make up the task force that infiltrates the Empire to steal the plans? We’ve met the crew, but know little about their motivations. Especially Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). From the trailers thus far, she is brought into the Rebellion under coercion. We’ve seen one reason she might decide to join the cause, but now the international trailer gives us another: her father. This tidbit is fascinating because in previous trailers, Mon Mothma tells the audience that Jyn »

On Thursday, Disney and Lucasfilm released the second trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, December’s hotly-anticipated first standalone movie set in the galaxy far, far away [check out the trailer here if you want to watch it again]. Our writing team was overwhelmingly blown away by the first teaser, but has that excitement carried over to the main trailer? Here’s our reaction…

Chris Cooper: This really gives me the feeling that it’s Star Wars made by people who grew up with it. We get all the props and the right look, but with a new style. A style that at several points here looks stunning. Jyn facing down a Tie. The eclipse. How the Star Destroyers are shot. Beautiful. Really looking forward to this.

Han Solo Spinoff Film Looking To Cast Non-White Female Lead?

12 August 2016 12:06 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

It's no secret that the original Star Wars trilogy is about as white as white bread. With the exception of Lando Calrissian, there isn't really a single person of color on screen (excluding James Earl Jones' voice, of course). I'm not here to demonize or hate on Lucas for that. Times were different back in the 1970s and 1980s, and what's done is done. However, with last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney and Lucasfilm managed to diversify its cast in both sex and color.

This is a trend they are continuing with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is another film with a female lead. In addition, the main cast for that film looks to be as racially diverse as could be, consisting of Chinese actor Jian Wheng, Hong Kong actor star Donnie Yen, Mexican actor Diego Luna, and British Muslim actor Riz Ahmed.

Wondering why Jyn joins the Rebels in 'Star Wars: Rogue One'? The trailer secretly explained

12 August 2016 9:58 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

We are in the throes of a golden age of Star Wars. Disney streamlining the galaxy into a single, coherent whole with comics, television, and films could’ve been a disaster. Instead it has ushered in a new era of complex and intertwined storytelling for the franchise. This December, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will expand on both the Jedi lore being explored in Star Wars Rebels and tell the story of how Princess Leia ended up with the plans for the Death Star in the opening moments of A New Hope. Earlier this week we learned Rogue One will take audiences to a Force-sensitive ‘Holy Land’ located on the planet Jedha. Director Gareth Edwards revealed the Empire will be crawling all over the place for reasons unknown. I speculated at the time that perhaps the Empire hopes to find a larger cache of kyber crystals to power the Death Star’s laser. »
