Review: Static Shock the Complete Third Season

  • Comicmix
Milestone Media’s best-known character, Static, is back in the third volume of his animated adventures after the release of the first two seasons last year. Static Shock was somewhat revolutionary back in the day, featuring an African-American teen super-hero who juggled classes, girls, villains, and parents, not all that dissimilar to a certain wall-crawler. The comic was long gone, but he left a mark.

Virgil Hawkins (Phil Lamarr) arrived for the Static Shock the Complete Third Season sporting a brand new costume and during the season, his Bff Richie (Jason Marsden) gained powers, taking on the name Gear. Throughout the thirteen episodes comprising the series, which aired in the Kids’ WB, he left the confines of Dakota and journeyed to Africa and even partnered with Superman after fighting alongside the Justice League.

It helped that there were strong scripts from Milestone co-founder Dwayne McDuffie, backed by Paul Dini, Len Uhley,

Charles Burnett’s Road to Oscar Was Paved by Socially Conscious Storytelling

Charles Burnett’s Road to Oscar Was Paved by Socially Conscious Storytelling
Given the amount of recognition he’s received from film critics and the number of awards he’s received over the course of his career, it’s not surprising that Charles Burnett was selected to receive an honorary Academy Award — unless you’re Charles Burnett, that is, in which case you’re still struggling to process the news.

“I didn’t know what to think,” says Burnett. “It’s one of those things you never expect, so there was no way it was on my mind. It just took me by surprise. And I’m still surprised.”

Although he was born in Vicksburg, Miss., Burnett was only a few years old when his family moved to Watts, the Los Angeles neighborhood that would ultimately serve as the setting for his debut feature film, “Killer of Sheep.” Originally submitted as Burnett’s Master of Fine Arts thesis at UCLA in 1977, “Killer of Sheep” was selected for preservation in the

Meet Martian Manhunter’s Dad In Supergirl Season 3, Episode 3 Images

Supergirl season 3 continues next week with episode 3, titled “Far From The Tree,” which will be a must-watch installment for fans of Martian Manhunter. Not only does it see the return of M’gann M’orzz Aka Miss Martian (Sharon Leal), but J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) will also meet his long lost father, M’yrnn J’onzz (Carl Lumbly).

Longtime DC TV fans will know that Lumbly is perfect casting as J’onzz’s dad, given that the actor previously voiced Martian Manhunter himself in the beloved Justice League animated series and its follow-up Justice League Unlimited. He’s still the definitive version of the Last Son of Mars for many fans of a certain age, so it’s great that he’s returning to the DC family in Supergirl. On top of Smallville‘s Erica Durance also coming aboard as Kara’s mother Alura, this season of the
