He conducted Arthur Honegger's musical, "Joan of Arc at the Stake," at the Stoll Theatre in London, England with Ingrid Bergman, Valentine Dyall, Anthony Newlands, Alfred Hallett, Norman Lumsden, a Cast of 100 artistes, a choir of 50, and a full symphony orchestra in the cast. Roberto Rossellini was director.

Former ballet dancer (with Diaghilev's Ballet Russe, 1918-1921), turned composer and conductor by the age of nineteen. He composed overtures, cantatas, ballets and film music and later became a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. After wartime service in the RAF, he formed his own orchestra to give concerts on the BBC.
