Edward James Olmos on the 20th Anniversary of 'Selena': 'I've Never Had a More Difficult Film' (Exclusive)

12 hours ago | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

It’s been 20 years since Edward James Olmos garnered critical acclaim for playing the role of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla’s father, Abraham, in the singer's posthumous biopic, Selena

Et spoke with the actor on Thursday at the Eva Longoria Foundation’s Annual Dinner in Beverly Hills, where he reflected on his experience making the beloved classic film.

“It was the saddest movie I've ever filmed, to be honest with you. I've never had a more difficult film to film,” Olmos lamented. “It was too close to the time when she was actually killed, it was only 13 months after when we were filming. Nobody wanted to film it, the parents didn't, we didn't, nobody wanted to. We'd rather she be alive. But we had to."

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences hosted its third annual careers in film summit on Saturday in Beverly Hills in an effort to inspire and educate the next generation of filmmakers.

“It is the beginning for a lot of dreams and clarity for students; today is both a reality check and a day of inspiration,” Randy Haberkamp, the managing director of preservation and foundation programs for the Academy, told Variety.

“The important part is seeing audience reactions and hearing the buzz of their ideas in the hall,” he went on, smiling. “To see people sitting all day with stars in their eyes it makes you stop thinking about bad news and start thinking about possibilities.”

Haberkamp acknowledged the current tension in Hollywood regarding Harvey Weinstein and said that in times like these, stories are necessary “to measure whether we feel we’re being true to ourselves or whether we’re challenging ourselves.” He continued, »

Chrissie Fit is recognizable to fans across the world for her portrayal of foreign exchange student Flo in Pitch Perfect 2, but like most Latina actresses, her road to success in Hollywood hasn't been easy.

The 33-year-old actress grew up in Miami Florida, surrounded by other Latinos, "so in school, we didn't have the option of casting by race. It was just whoever could do the best job," she explained to Et over the phone on Monday -- but things quickly changed once she entered the big leagues.

"I remember my first audition was for The Secret Garden, and I auditioned for Mary Lennox, which was like, the Caucasian, British actor, and the director was looking at me, like, perplexed. Like, 'What the heck is this girl doing?' And he really politely said, 'That was great. Next season we're doing the King and I, and I think you're better suited for that,'" she recalled »
