Sebastien De La Cruz: Racism Helped Me Showcase My Mexican Culture

15 hours ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Leave it to 11-year-old Sebastien de la Cruz to make lemonade out of the very acid and racist lemons thrown at him on Twitter last week.

After withstanding a downpour of racist remarks for performing the National Anthem wearing a Mexican charro outfit at game three of the NBA finals last Tuesday, “El Charro de Oro” told HuffPost Voces that the experience actually helped him showcase what he loves.

“I think it [did] help me, in some way, just to show my cultura. To show what Mariachi is,” de la Cruz told The Huffington Post during his appearance on Univision’s morning show "Despierta América."

Despite understanding and speaking Spanish, the San-Antonio native asked for host Raúl González’s help during the bilingual interview confessing that he feels very shy when speaking Spanish because everyone speaks it so differently. (Check Out A Video Of The Interview Above)

Eva Longoria Talks Master's Degree, Producing Lifetime's Devious Maids—Watch!

17 hours ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Eva Longoria's grad school education is helping her break new ground on the tube. Speaking to E! News at the premiere of Devious Maids, the new Lifetime drama she's executive producing, the actress expressed pride in the show's all-Latina cast. She also attributed part of that pioneering spirit—helped along by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry who served as her producing mentor—to the master's degree she received in Chicano studies. "I'm not the authority of Latinos, but I definitely have a perspective that Marc respects and I'm a very big advocate in my community and so I'm happy to contribute in that way," Longoria told E! News. "So storyline-wise, »

Eva Longoria Stuns In Peplum Pantsuit At ‘Devious Maids’ Premiere

The star looked stunning, as always, in a sexy strapless white pantsuit for the premiere of her new show — and her assets were on full display!

Eva Longoria, 38-year-old actress, looked gorgeous on the red carpet on June 17 in her sexy and silky white pantsuit for the premiere of her new show, Devious Maids, in La. Did you like her sexy look as much as we did?

Eva LongoriaDevious Maids’ Premiere Outfit:

Eva looked amazing on the red carpet in a Pamella Roland white silk peplum jumpsuit from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The pantsuit fit her petite body perfectly, really accentuating her curves. A zipper down the middle of the strapless top added some fun to the outfit and allowed her to flaunt her cleavage. She opted for minimal jewelry, donning a simple silver necklace, a nude clutch, and matching nude open-toed pumps. Her hair was pin straight, making »

Eva Longoria's Sexy Nurse Suit: Gotta Have it or Make it Stop?

19 hours ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

If Nurse Ratched had worn this look, things might have ended up very differently... We can't decide if it's the all-white thing or the bell shape on the bodice, but something about Eva Longoria's Pamela Roland jumpsuit makes us feel like she should be handing out meds. True, the cleavage wouldn't fly, even in a Los Angeles hospital, and no hospital staffer would last on their feet all day in those shoes, but there's still something very sterile about this style. We say, "make it stop," but what's your take? »

Laff 2013 Review: Lake Bell Proves a Voice Is a Powerful Tool with Her Goofy ‘In A World…’

17 June 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Children naturally grow up wanting to be like their parents, and some actually do. Children of actors becoming actors, children of musicians becoming musicians, and I’m sure there are some children of accountants who become accountants. (Okay, maybe not that last one.) Carol (Lake Bell) wants to be a voice over actor, but not because her father, famous voice over actor Sam (Fred Melamed) is one, but because she understand the power of voice. Carol spends her days as a vocal coach (boasting Eva Longoria as one of her clients) and logging various accents into her archive of voices. Carol is kooky and a bit awkward (her outfits alone can tell you that), but she is also sweet and honest, in no way the shark you apparently need to be to make it as a voice over actor. In A World… takes audiences behind the scenes of voice over acting as the community “mourns” the death »

Glam Slam: The Friday Five -- Ways To Get White Right!

We're exactly one week away from the "official" start of summer, but we've all already dipped into our white wardrobes, of course!

Here are a few ways to wear white fashionably and fearlessly (like Eva Longoria!)...

The Little White Dress:

If white is the new black, then no wardrobe is complete without a Lwd. A sleeveless sheath is remarkably versatile - an almost literal blank canvas upon which to build your look.

The White Bag:

A snowy purse is the sartorial equivalent of an exclamation mark. Unlike a dark version, which blends, white draws the ...

Child Star Shuts Down The Racists, Again!

14 June 2013 8:37 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

This young American singer cannot be stopped.

Eleven-year-old singer Sebastien de la Cruz who brushed off a deluge of racist venom on Twitter earlier this week returned to the stage Thursday night to perform the National Anthem before the game four of the NBA finals, with a star-studded entourage cheering him on.

Introduced by San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, de la Cruz belted out the nation’s song once again, drawing applause several times when his voice hit peak intensity.

De la Cruz first made headlines Tuesday night, after Twitter users lashed out at him, saying a “Mexican” shouldn’t perform the National Anthem.

But the haters didn’t rule the day. A larger flood of support for the young musician overwhelmed the racist assumption that brown people with Spanish names don’t count as American. The classy San Antonio-native shut them down, pointing out during a televised appearance and »

First Trailer Arrives For Lake Bell’s Comedy ‘In A World…’

The first trailer has arrived for Lake Bell’s comedy In A World online today ahead of the movie’s scheduled release later this year. The project, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah before also screening at Sundance London, is the directorial debut from actress Lake Bell (It’S Complicated, No String’S Attached) and also stars Fred Melamed (A Serious Man, The Dictator). Check out the synopsis below:

Carol (Lake Bell), an underachieving vocal coach and the daughter of a famous movie trailer voiceover artist, sets out to become the voice of movie trailers, much to the chagrin of her self-absorbed father (Fred Melamed).

The trailer shows off the comic awkward relationship Carol has with her father and those in the male-dominated world of voice over artists.  It also gives a small peek into the cameos that stars including Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Geena Davies and »

Amusing First Trailer for Lake Bell’s In a World…

13 June 2013 7:38 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

If you’ve ever wanted to get into the nitty gritty of the movie voiceover business, then writer/director/actor Lake Bell’s “In a World…” is the film you’ve been waiting for. Nah, I’m just kidding. It’s a comedy, so it’s probably not going in That deeply. Plus, it’s got Eva Longoria playing Eva Longoria. That’s pretty much a signal that you’re not dealing with a comedy when actors are playing ridiculous versions of themselves onscreen. Still a very amusing trailer, though. But you know what would have made this trailer for “In a World…” even better? If the trailer opened up with a Male voiceover talking about Lake Bell’s character trying to break into the movie voiceover business. What a missed opportunity for a great gag. Carol Solomon, a young female voice coach, joins the all-male race to land the »

Preview Review: ‘In a World’ Trailer

12 June 2013 7:19 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Opening with the most oft-repeated opening line in the history of film advertising, the clever new trailer for Lake Bell’s “In a World…” (which debuted exclusively on Yahoo! Movies) recalls the hilarious high-concept promo for the 2002 Jerry Seinfeld standup docu “Comedian,” with one key difference: all of the sound-booth footage is actually in the movie.

Frankly, it doesn’t get much more meta than a movie trailer for a movie set in the Hollywood movie-trailer industry. But then, before Bell came along and did it, no one had thought to set an old-fashioned romantic comedy in the odd, insular world of preview narrators. Bell plays a vocal coach — and daughter of the trailer biz’s reigning voiceover champ (Fred Melamed) — clumsily trying to make her way in a field dominated by men.

By circling back to recording sessions and scenes of characters quoting lines from trailers (including a hilarious »

Watch: First Trailer For Lake Bell's Movie About The Voices Behind Movies Trailers 'In A World...'

12 June 2013 1:16 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

"I'm a trailer fanatic. If I need to go to my happy place, I just go to Apple Trailers. If I go to the movie and miss the trailers, I'll be pissed at everyone who made me late," Lake Bell told us in an interview earlier this year. And indeed, she's taken that passion for those two-minute bursts of advertising to make her featuring length directorial debut "In A World..." and it looks like a charmer. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, it certainly was a highlight. Taking the trifecta of writer/actor/director, Bell leads the movie as an up-and-coming voiceover artist and daughter of a famous movie trailer voice who looks to take the reins from her Dad in the industry. But of course there are comic complications, but it all seems to take place in a refreshingly unique setting. Out in Park City, we »

Trailer for In A World… Starring Lake Bell and Demetri Martin

12 June 2013 1:04 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Roadside Attractions has released a trailer for Lake Bell's comedy, In a World…  Bell stars as Carol, a voiceover actress who feels marginalized both by the sexism in her profession and the success of her father (Fred Melamed), who is famous in the voiceover profession.  When I saw the film at Sundance, I enjoyed it despite some glaring flaws, and this trailer gives an idea of what a better movie would have looked like.  It streamlines the themes and the plot of the picture, and wisely leaves out the distracting subplot involving Carol's sister Dani (Michaela Watkins) and her boyfriend Moe (Rob Corddry). Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Ken Marino, Lucy Punch, Nick Offerman, Eva Longoria,, and Demetri Martin.  In a World… opens in limited release on August 9th. Click over to Yahoo! Movies to see the trailer in HD. Here's the »

Cannes red carpet allows you to be daring: Eva Longoria

Los Angeles, June 12: Actress Eva Longoria says the Cannes film festival offers a perfect opportunity to celebrities to get bolder with their red carpet looks.

The 38-year-old claims the two-week-long red carpet extravaganza in May allows celebrities to experiment with their style without having to worry about criticism, unlike a Hollywood bash, reports contactmusic.com.

Longoria believes "risks are allowed".

"You can't do that in Hollywood - they would criticise you for this neckline being too low or that colour being too bright. (In Cannes), the more daring you are, the better it is, so it's a lot more fun," she said.
