The coming-of-age comedy, based on the acclaimed novel by C.D. Payne, “Youth in Revolt,” is the story of Nick Twisp, a unique, but affable teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini, who falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday) while on a family vacation.
But family, geography and jealous ex-lovers conspire to keep these two apart. With Sheeni’s encouragement, Nick abandons his dull, predictable life and develops a rebellious alter ego: Francois. With his ascot, his moustache and his cigarette, Francois will stop at nothing to be with Sheeni, and leads Nick Twisp on a path of destruction with unpredictable and uproarious consequences.

'Alvin And The Chipmunks' 2 movie brought laughs & entertainment. 20th Century Fox's new "Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel" movie hit theaters this weekend. I just got through checking it out. Contrary to other reviews I read,it was quite entertaining and brought plenty of laughs and entertainment. It stars: Jason Lee, Justin Long, David Cross, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate, Amy Poehler, and Zachary Levi. In "Alvin and The Chipmunks: The squeakuel," the chipmunks are now being taken care of by Toby (Zachary Levi) because Dave is in the hospital. They now have to go to school, which seemed a bit too unrealistic, even for this type of movie, but oh well. »

Just in time for the holidays comes the latest animated movie featuring the furriest pop sensations of the last 50 years, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Based on characters created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. in 1958, the singing group consists of three chipmunk brothers: Alvin, the lead of the group and the head troublemaker; Simon, the bespectacled nerdy intellectual; and Theodore, the chubby and gullible brother. The group is managed by Dave Seville, who also acts as a father figure to the young chipmunks.
In Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, an unfortunate accident leaves Dave(Jason Lee) laid up in Paris, so Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) are left in the care of Dave Seville's twenty-something gamer nephew Toby (Zachary Levi).

The players: Director: Betty Thomas, Writers: Jon Vitti, Glenn Berger, Jonathan Aibel, Cast: Jason Lee, Zachary Levi, Anjelah Johnson, Wendie Malick, Justin Long
Facts of interest: None!
The plot: The chipmunks go to school and clash with the chipettes. That's all there is to say about this one.
Our thoughts: What can I say? I walked into “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” expecting a terrible sequel to a horrible first film, and that’s exactly what I got: an unnecessary follow-up about three annoying CGI creatures whose shrill voices and lack of brain nearly made my ears (and eyes) bleed. »

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel
Directed by: Betty Thomas
Cast: Zachary Levi, David Cross, Jason Lee
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: December 23, 2009
Plot: After Dave (Lee) breaks most of his bones in an Alvin-related accident, the Chipmunks stay with Toby Seville (Levi). While Dave’s away they take on new challenges like going to high school and facing off against new musical rivals/love interests, the Chipettes.
Who’S It For? Kids, specifically those old enough to sit through a movie but still young enough not to judge based on quality.
Expectations: Low. The first film wasn’t as bad as I expected, but my expectations were so colossally low that they almost had to be beaten. This one is a sequel, which tend to be worse than the film that precedes it.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Zachary Levi as Toby: I love Zachary Levi in Chuck. »

When last we left Alvin And The Chipmunks, they were living with David Seville (Jason Lee), rocking and rolling and being as cute and cuddly as CGI can possibly be. To be honest, I don’t really remember how 2007’s Alvin And The Chipmunks ended. It was a forgettable, clear cut waste of time, resources and any excess film stock that happened to be laying around. It’s pretty much how I feel now about Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, a movie whose dispensable nature leaves it aimlessly reaching for our attention or that of our children. It probably gets theirs, especially if your kid’s the kind who rattles and hums at the thought of adults getting hit in the head. For the rest of us, though, the ones who actually put down the money so our kids can be slightly amused for 90 minutes, it’s tedious and »

Happy holidays, everyone! Those willing and able to drag themselves away from the huge pile of swag under the tree can enjoy the late Heath Ledger's final performance, a Jude Law double bill and a drolly comic Romanian police procedural underneath among other holiday presents that await at the multiplex.
"Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel"
With the tagline "Munk Yourself" sounding more like a threat than a come-on, the high-pitched trio of singing rodents return just in time for exhausted moms to plunk the rugrats down at the multiplex after the presents are unwrapped while they snore quietly in the back row. Betty Thomas, who has some kid-themed kid-themed hijinks with on her CV, steps in for the first film's helmer Tim Hill and trades out her experience with real critters on "Dr. Dolittle" for these much less messy (not to mention non-union) digital substitutes. Jason Lee reprises his role as Dave, »

Justin Long will be seen taking off all of his clothes in "Going the Distance". Bringing out the confirmation was co-star Christina Applegate as she recently told The Associated Press, "I saw A Lot of Justin Long over the summer, I did - You'll see the movie and you'll know why I said that."
Of the movie itself, the actress who voices Brittany in "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" said, "It's very dirty." The "Samantha Who?" star further explained, "It's the polar opposite of 'Alvin and The Chipmunks'. These people will not be able to go see that."
In "Going the Distance", Justin Long reunites with his on-and-off girlfriend Drew Barrymore. The twosome portrays lovebirds who try to maintain a long-distance relationship while one lives in Chicago and the other in Los Angeles.
Christina Applegate, in the meantime, is booked to star as Barrymore's on-screen sister. She will act for the movie, »

Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. created America's favorite singing chipmunks, Alvin and the Chipmunks to be exact, in 1958 when he discovered that if he sped up his musical recordings the high-pitch voices would sound like singing chipmunks, thus the Chipmunks were born. Since then, the furry musical group have had hit songs, popular TV shows, a blockbuster live-action/CGI film and have even earned a Grammy. Now the trio has returned for a "Squeakquel" to their 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks, which went on to make over $300 million worldwide, entitled Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, opening in theaters on December 23rd. Not only will the film mark the cinematic return of the brothers Chipmunk but will also introduce to the big screen for the very first time their famous female counterparts, the Chipettes. We recently had the great opportunity to sit down with the true stars of the film, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, »

Short but certainly not sweet, this 84-minute black comedy probably wouldn't make good date-night viewing, unless a break-up was on the agenda as well. It's a mean-spirited meditation on marriage gone wrong, but worse than that, it's simply a bad film and a poor legacy for its talented screenwriter.
Hal Hartley favorite Adrienne Shelly was killed in 2006, just months before the release of her directorial debut, Waitress, which she also wrote. The script for Serious Moonlight was left behind after her death, and her husband, Andy Ostroy, sought to bring the project to the screen. Shelly's Waitress co-star Cheryl Hines makes her own directorial debut, but even her solid cast can't save this film from feeling unpolished and unfinished.
Meg Ryan (The Women) stars as Louise, a high-powered attorney who takes a break from her busy city life to relax at her country home with her husband, Ian (Timothy Hutton, »

Though she's best known for playing Larry David's wife on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheryl Hines got her start with The Groundlings, the famed improv group that produced such talents as Will Ferrell and Phil Hartman. That experience prepared her for Curb's largely unscripted comedy, but it also was an unexpected education for her new role as the director of the black comedy Serious Moonlight (read my review here). CinemaSpy participated in an interview with the actress about her transition to working behind the camera.
Hines' first surprise was being offered the job of directing the film. Serious Moonlight began as a script from Hines' director and costar in Waitress, Adrienne Shelly. In late 2006, Shelly was killed, leaving the finished Waitress and several scripts behind, including Serious Moonlight. The screenplay centers on Louise, a lawyer who is surprised to find her husband Ian is having an affair with a young woman. »

If you’re a regular reader of Collider, you already know I thought Youth in Revolt was great. I saw it at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and afterwards recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm. I also posted a video interview with Michael Cera and director Miguel Arteta, and Matt recently posted an article on the awesome red band trailer. What I’m trying to say is…it’s a film you should be excited for as Michael Cera finally shows he can play more than Michael Cera. In fact, in Youth in Revolt, we get to see the evil Michael Cera as he creates a “supplementary persona” named Francois Dillinger to do the many bad things needed to win his dream girl. Trust me, you’ve never seen Michael Cera act like this.
So to help raise awareness, the Weinstein Company has released a new clip and poster. »

Justin Long is set to bare all in new movie Going The Distance, according to his co-star Christina Applegate, who got to see everything the actor has to offer.
The pair team up in two forthcoming films; the romantic comedy about a couple in a long distance relationship, and kids' film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
And Applegate insists the two pictures couldn't be more different.
She tells the Belfast Telegraph, "It's called Going The Distance and it's very dirty. It's the polar opposite of Alvin And The Chipmunks. These people will not be able to go see that."
And she promises there's lots on offer for female fans in the raunchy comedy: "I saw a lot of Justin Long over the summer, I did - you'll see the movie and you'll know why I said that." »
