Q&A: Peyton Wich on Playing Troy in Stranger Things & Working with Brendan Gleeson on Mr. Mercedes

  • DailyDead
Before Billy came to Hawkins, Troy was perhaps the most feared school bully on Stranger Things. Brought to life by actor Peyton Wich, Troy took part in two of the most memorable scenes from the first season of the Netflix series, including the now-iconic quarry showdown with Eleven. Daily Dead recently had the pleasure of catching up with Wich for our latest Q&A feature, in which he discusses his audition process for Stranger Things, memorable moments acting alongside David Harbour and the young actors in the first season, and working with Brendan Gleeson on the Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Peyton. How did you originally become interested in acting?

Peyton Wich: I participated in a variety of activities when I was younger, but I always quit. Nothing ever interested me. I would watch a lot of movies in

Kevin Smith is pitching Mallrats TV series to Universal Television today

It started out as a movie, but the sequel to Kevin Smith’s 1995 comedy flop (at least in box office terms) Mallrats is now being pitched as a TV show with all of the original cast in place – minus Ben Affleck. Smith has been very public about his plans for the series and has talked about it appearing on sites like Amazon Prime and Netflix, and he announced today he’s off to meet with Universal TV:

Today I start pitching the #Mallrats series with the folks at @UniversalTV. I've got butterflies in my giant stomach. Hope someone wants us.

— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) October 10, 2016

Kevin Smith is turning his “Mallrats” sequel into a television series

Go figure, just a few days after I wrote last week about Kevin Smith’s next film Yoga Hosers, some news pops up about another project of his. This one is his sequel to Mallrats, which he is going forward with, just in a new form. As you’ll see below, he’s opted to take the sequel and make it as a series on television, instead of as a film, due to some previously unforeseen circumstances. This is a lemonade out of lemons situation, as well as perhaps a hint as to where Smith could see his career begin to focus in the years to come. Either way, it’s something new and exciting in his evolution as a storyteller. The behind the scenes story here is that initially Mallrats 2 or Mallbrats was going to be a movie, but when Smith submitted his script to Universal, he found out it wouldn’t be quite so simple, as they wouldn’t just release the property to him. However, considering how popular his episode of The Flash was on CW, as well as the upcoming television series take on Buckaroo Banzai that he’s launching (and recently sold), Smith quickly pivoted. Now, we’re getting Mallrats: The Series, a TV show which could really be something fun. It’s everything we want from Smith going back to the mall, just spread out over a season of TV instead of in one movie. Count me in. Here’s what I wrote last year when the sequel was announced as a film: “The initial reason that Smith decided to make Mallrats 2 into a film was to honor his friend and Mallrats producer Jim Jacks, who passed away back in 2014. As a way of honoring Jacks, a man who had once upon a time championed a potential sequel, Smith then decided to make it a reality. As much as this could be just another one of those interesting announcements that go nowhere, that hasn’t been the case. Over the weeks and months, Smith would go on social media slowly teasing all of the former cast members who are coming back to the mall, as it were. That’s pretty impressive, regardless of the cast. For those who don’t remember, Mallrats starred Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Claire Forlani, Ethan Suplee, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Mewes, Ben Affleck, as well as Stan Lee in a cameo and of course Smith himself [...]

‘Mallrats 2’ Is Now Becoming a TV Series
It’s been over a year since we heard that Kevin Smith was looking to return to the world of Mallrats with a sequel to his 1995 comedy, which starred Jason Lee and Jeremy London as a couple of meandering twentysomethings trying to figure out their place in the world. The film bombed at the box office over […]

Mallrats 2 Becomes a 10-Episode TV Show

Mallrats 2 Becomes a 10-Episode TV Show
Last March, director Kevin Smith revealed that he is making a sequel to his 1995 comedy Mallrats, with the filmmaker teasing the addition of practically every main cast member from the original movie. Last May, the filmmaker said that the sequel will be called MallBrats, and that he has a completed script, with another report from September revealing that shooting would begin in January 2016. That was the last we heard about the project, but during a new radio interview, the filmmaker revealed that this sequel has now transformered into a TV series.

Kevin Smith explained in a previous update that he would shoot Mallrats 2 at the Exton Square Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but as he revealed in a radio interview with Philadelphia's Wmmr, his plan hit a big snag. The director's agent originally told him that Universal would likely just let the rights to Mallrats go for the director to make a sequel.

Review: Girl In Woods

Before we even hit the 6 minute mark, Girl In Woods already presents viewers with four nightmare sequences. I even paused it to check the time stamp to make sure I didn’t accidentally skip ahead. Not a mistake. This has to be some kind of record and was worried that I was about to watch 90 minutes of this. My concerns were unfortunately proven right. There are multiple dream within a dream sequences and it gets old Very fast.

These nightmares belong to our lead, Grace (played by Juliet Reeves), who goes to a cabin with her boyfriend Jim (Jeremy London). She verbally recounts her father’s suicide (he shot himself) and how this traumatized her for development sake. They go for a deep walk in the woods and Jim ends up being shot in the head. I assumed he shot himself by accident, but it’s not very clear initially

Movie Review – Girl in Woods (2016)

Girl in Woods, 2016

Directed by Jeremy Benson.

Starring Juliet Reeves, Jeremy London, John Still and Charisma Carpenter.

Synopsis:

Grace Walker and her fiancee Jim take a romantic journey into the Smoky Mountains to celebrate their engagement, but after a tragic and fatal accident, Grace is left alone with only the woods and her demons for company…

Across the entirety of Girl in Woods, you get the feeling Jeremy Benson’s movie should have in reality ended up a short film. Such economy would perhaps have allowed for a conceptual punch even just over eighty minutes is too long to deliver, with a central concept that while sounds interesting on paper is scuppered by a poor script and utterly leaden pacing. In essence, Benson’s story is the creation of an urban legend, the origin tale of a later horror picture we haven’t yet seen, but that’s not necessarily

Everybody Wants Some: can Richard Linklater's latest help heal America?

The film is anti-partisan, pro-pluralism and even has some frat-bro Zen. It’s time the likes of Ted Cruz and Donald Trump learn from Linklater’s reformed jocks

Every generation has a piece of fiction – be it movie, television show or book – that speaks so specifically to their time and place that it inspires them to play the “Which one are you?” game. This has been most frequently been applied to Sex and the City or Friends, the latter of which came back to our screens with a horrific forced whimper recently.

Among my particular group of stoned high school friends in 90s suburbia, however, Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused was the pop art that most closely resembled our lives. There was no shortage of characters with whom to identify, but if you ask any man of my generation which Dazed character he was, I’d bet you my

Bruce Campbell to star in Mallrats 2

Over the weekend at New York Comic Con, writer and director Kevin Smith moderated a panel for the upcoming Ash vs. The Evil Dead, which showed its first episode to much praise. But while hosting the event, Smith took it upon himself to promote his next venture, and ask a favour of Bruce Campbell.

“At the end of the panel, I saw my moment and I took it.” Smith told the audience at the recording of his Hollywood Babble On podcast. “I’m gonna do it in front of everyone, the best time to ask somebody is to publicly shame them. So I said, ‘Bruce, in January we make a movie called Mallrats 2 – will you be in it?’ And he goes, ‘yes’. So he’s in it.”

Mallrats 2 stars shooing in January and has many of the original cast returning with Smith confirming that Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Jason Mewes,
