Michael Graziadei (American Horror Story), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Spartacus) and Louise Lombard (CSI) have been cast in Lifetime’s dystopian future drama pilot The Lottery, written by Timothy J. Sexton and directed by Danny Cannon. The Warner Horizon-produced conspiracy thriller is set in a world where women have stopped having children threatening extinction of the human race. When 100 embryos are successfully fertilized, a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates. Graziadei, repped by Gersh and Main Title, will play Kyle, a recovering alcoholic and single father of one of the last children born in the country. Yet another new castmember has been added to The CW's second pilot effort at adapting Kiera Cass' The Selection, and this time the character cast doesn't stem directly from the book version of the story. Per Deadline, English actor Ben Aldridge will portray Prince Rafe, the younger prince of Illea who "loves his country and takes his leadership role seriously — but he does have a secret." As detailed by Spoiler TV, the second piloting script for The Selection adds more focus on the affairs of the palace, which is being attacked by sometimes dangerous revolutionaries on a regular basis, and this means the addition of characters like Rafe ... and more drama, like the fact that Rafe has a little tryst on the side with one of the competitors for his brother's heart. The CW has added a new lady to its second pilot effort to adapt Kiera Cass' The Selection. Per Deadline, Louise Lombard (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Sgu Stargate Universe) has been plucked to star as Queen Amberly, the well-liked matriarch of Illea's royal family who oversees the competition for her son's heart. The role was originally played by Leonor Varela last year when the network first attempted piloting a show based on Cass' novel. Louise Lombard joins co-stars Yael Grobglas (America Singer), Lucien Laviscount (Aspen Leger), Michael Malarkey (Prince Maxon), Anthony Head (King Clarkson), Sarah Winter (Ashley), Celia Massingham (Celeste), Sean Patrick Thomas (Sylvan Santos) and Peta Sergeant (Gaia) in the series starter, directed by Alex Graves. »

The Selection, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain and directed by Alex Graves, is an epic romance centering on America Singer (Yael Grobglas), a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Lombard will play the current queen, Queen Amberly. Refined, intelligent and beloved by the people, Queen Amberly is a canny political player within the palace, and knows everything there is to know about every single girl in The Selection competition.
