- Began and ended her career as a stage actress with plays by George Bernard Shaw. At 18 she appeared at the invitation of Shaw in his play "Getting Married", which made her a star, and her last appearance was in the Shavian revival of "Man and Superman".

She also toured Canada and the U.S. during the 1920's. Her screen appearances, beginning in 1916, were by necessity fewer. From the 1940's, she often played harridans, dowagers and formidable characters to be reckoned with.
