'Game of Thrones': Finally, a full-fledged preview of HBO's new series

6 December 2010 5:22 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

HBO had been pretty stingy with sneak peeks of its new series "Game of Thrones" -- but that ended on Sunday.

Prior to the season finale of "Boardwalk Empire" Sunday night (Dec. 5), HBO aired a 10-minute making-of/preview special for "Game of Thrones." It was the usual mix of teaser footage, behind-the-scenes info and talking heads with the cast and crew -- but it was also the first extended look fans have gotten at the show.

The video -- which features interview segments with author George R.R. Martin, whose novels form the basis of the series, as well as creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss -- is at the end of the post. But we also wanted to share a few new photos HBO has posted of the cast. Up above is Sean Bean ("The Lord of the Rings") as Eddard "Ned" Stark, and below is Lena Headey ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles »

A couple other trailers have since surfaced on HBO, but with roughly the same amount of footage and little-to-no-dialogue. Now HBO has released an all-new trailer which finally gives us a better idea of the story and style behind the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series A Song of Fire and Ice. The trailer brings epic action, medieval drama and even some sexuality, a staple of any HBO series. You can check out the trailer after the jump and look forward to the series which will begin airing sometime in early 2011.

'Robin Hood: The Complete Series' Is Classic British Tea-Time Silliness

12 November 2010 11:56 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

You don't need to be British to know what makes for silly Saturday evening TV on that nation's major networks. If you are familiar with Doctor Who and Primeval, you'll have a pretty good idea. Both of those shows are admirable for their high production values and a winning combination of imagination, energy, comedy and drama. Yet, they make a virtue out of daft characters and stretching credibility to its limits. Those same qualities can also be found in the BBC's Robin Hood. The series ran for three seasons in the time slot reserved for Doctor Who. Although it isn't sci-fi, it has no shortage of fantasy, at least of the strained credibility kind.  This is family entertainment for British Saturday evening tea-times. It's straight out of the best tradition of British comics: adventurous nonsense and all the more fun for it.

The emphasis in this version of Robin Hood is on youthful exuberance. »

Y'know, there's some really exciting TV headed our way at the moment. Aside from the reportedly excellent Boardwalk Empire, which Martin Scorsese's overseeing, HBO is also working on pitch-black fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, or - as it's called after the first book in George Rr Martin's sequence - A Game Of Thrones. And a new featurette and TV spot have come online to give you a taste of just how good it's going to be.The story has a huge cast of characters, focusing on three different clans in a medieval world: the noble and upright Starks, led by Eddard (Sean Bean) and his wife Catelyn (Michelle Fairley); the bluff King Robert Bartheon (Mark Addy) and his calculating in-laws the Lannisters, with Queen Cersei (Lena Headey, who's apparently nicked Eowyn's wig for the role), her twin brother Ser Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and their hunchback brother »

TV News: Breaking Bad Renewed for Fourth Season, First Teaser Trailer and Image for Game Of Thrones

13 June 2010 8:44 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

AMC has just ordered a fourth season of television’s tensest drama, Breaking Bad.  The third season ended just a few minutes ago on my coast and, wow.  Creator Vince Gilligan has mentioned that he once envisioned the series to run for exactly four seasons; while he seems to have stepped back a bit from that notion, it’s possible that we’re entering the final lap.  According to Deadline, the deal has been in the works for weeks now, with a budget dispute precluding official notice.  The creative team wanted $3.3 million, while AMC wanted $3.1 million.  Know that either number is rather high for a cable drama, so the writers should have plenty of funds to bring their ideas to life next year.

After the jump, check out the first teaser trailer and image from HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones.

What to say about ... The Little Dog Laughed

26 January 2010 9:03 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The critics find this satire on Hollywood sexual hypocrisy rather chilly, but there's one thing they agree on: Tamsin Greig is brilliant

This is what people mean when they talk about someone stealing the show. While opinions differ on the overall success of Douglas Carter Beane's imported comedy of Hollywood manners, on one subject all critical voices sing in unison: Tamsin Greig, as the witty, scheming agent Diane, is fabulous.

"Greig is phenomenal as corrupt Hollywood ambition incarnate," says Paul Taylor in the Independent. Michael Billington agrees: "The play belongs to Diane," he writes. And so does Henry Hitchings: "Her diction and poise are razor-sharp," he says. "When she's offstage, the audience longs to have her back." And here's Charles Spencer in the Telegraph: "A thrilling star turn," he says. "This is high-definition comic acting at its finest."
