Hong Kong — Veteran stage actor Lim Kay Tong has been cast in the upcoming “1965” in the key role of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime minister.

The film, pitched as a dramatic thriller about the fragility of racial harmony, spans multiple stories of immigrants and natives in the years before Singapore’s independence.

The picture will be directed from November by Randy Ang, from a script by Andrew Ngin Chiang Meng and executive producer Daniel Yun.

Other cast also unveiled include Joanne Peh, Mike Kasem, Sezairi Sezali and James Seah.

It is presented by blue3 Pictures and mm2 Entertainment, together with investment partners, and supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore. It will be released next year as part of the country’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
