NFL Legend/Actor Jim Brown Getting His Own Biopic

16 February 2012 12:14 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Jim Brown is widely considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, NFL players of all-time. In his nine seasons as a Cleveland Brown, he made the Pro Bowl every single year and never missed one game due to injury. When he retired in 1965 at the age of only 29, he held the all-time record in Rushing Yards, a record that stood for 19 years (he has since moved to 9th all-time) as well as led the league in everything a running back could possibly lead in.

From there Brown went into acting and became one of Hollywood’s first African American action stars, appearing in everything from the blaxploitation movies of the 70′s to Tim Burton‘s Mars Attacks! in 1995, and continues to act sparingly while also advocating for inner city youth. Jim Brown has pretty much lived the life movies are made of. And he’s apparently realized that too, »

Athlete Jim Brown Gets A Biopic

Gridiron legend turned actor Jim Brown has pledged his life rights to producer Hal Lieberman for a biopic which Bob Eisele ("The Great Debaters") will script and Jonathan Hock ("The Lost Son Of Havana") will direct says Deadline.

Brown was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and set every record for a pro running back in North American football. In 2002 Sporting News called him the greatest professional football player ever.

He retired at 29 to become Hollywood’s first African American action star and later an outspoken advocate for inner city youth.

He starred in numerous cinematic hits in the 60's through to the 90's including "The Dirty Dozen", "Ice Station Zebra," "The Running Man" and "Mars Attacks", and made history with Raquel Welch with the pair filming one of the first onscreen interracial love scenes in 1969's "100 Rifles".

The biopic is said to "focus on several facets of a remarkable life »

Gridiron Great Jim Brown In Huddle For Feature Biopic

15 February 2012 4:34 PM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Exclusive: Jim Brown, who traded his status as football’s greatest running back to become a movie star and eventually an activist to steer kids away from a gang lifestyle, is ready for his feature film close-up. Brown has pledged his life rights to producer Hal Lieberman for a feature film that will be written by Bob Eisele (The Great Debaters) and directed by Jonathan Hock, helmer of such documentaries as The Lost Son Of Havana and Michael Jordan To The Max. Lieberman is about to shop the package. Lieberman said he first met Brown on the set of New Jersey Turnpikes, a basketball comedy he produced and Brown starred in. Though that film never got released, they kept talking and remained friendly until finally Brown was ready. “I’ve been a fan and follower of his career over my lifetime, and there is 50 years of history under his belt, »

Endgame's Umbra Lands Both a New Writer and a New Director

7 January 2012 11:39 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Is it horror? Is it sci-fi? Is it horror/sci-fi? Those are the questions we've been asking about Endgame Entertainment's upcoming flick Umbra, and now that the project has a new writer And a new director on board, we should be able to find out the answers sooner rather than later.

Per Deadline, Martin Campbell (Green Lantern, Edge of Darkness) has been set to helm Umbra, which previous director Joe Carnahan (whose The Grey is opening later this month) has amicably dropped out of for personal reasons. Paul Haggis (pictured; Million Dollar Baby, Crash), who did rewrite work on the Campbell-directed Casino Royale, has also been brought on to rework the script. Shooting will begin in the spring.

No word if Bradley Cooper is still slated to star as "David Underwood", an investment banker who finds himself mixed up in a major government conspiracy involving an alien plot to breed with human chromosomes, »

Campbell, Haggis Set For "Umbra"

7 January 2012 3:29 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Director Martin Campbell and scribe Paul Haggis have been brought onboard the thriller "Umbra" at Endgame Entertainment says Deadline.

The story follows a business man who gets a mysterious package in the mail and gets caught up in a government conspiracy. Joe Carnahan was previously attached to direct but has since dropped out.

The pair will work in the same capacities as they did on the Bond reboot "Casino Royale" - Campbell will direct while Haggis is performing a re-write of the previous script draft by Steven Karczynski.

James Stern, Hal Lieberman and Lucienne Papon are producing. Shooting kicks off this Spring. »

Martin Campbell to Direct Umbra

6 January 2012 3:32 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Endgame Entertainment is moving forward with its drama Umbra, hiring Martin Campbell to direct and Paul Haggis to rewrite the script.

We first reported on this project back in October 2010, when Joe Carnahan signed on to direct and rewrite the original script by Steven Karczynski. Joe Carnahan recently dropped out of the project, but it is said that his departure was amicable. The story centers on a businessman who gets caught up in a conspiracy when a strange package arrives at his home.

James D. Stern is producing for Endgame Entertainment, alongside Hal Lieberman and Martin Campbell's producing partner, Lucienne Papon.

Production is scheduled to begin this spring. »

Martin Campbell And Paul Haggis Take On ‘Umbra’ Following Joe Carnahan Exit

6 January 2012 11:27 AM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Exclusive: Martin Campbell has been set to direct Umbra, the Endgame Entertainment-funded drama that Joe Carnahan has dropped out of. Paul Haggis, who came on to do rewrite work on the Campbell-directed Casino Royale, has also been brought on to do a rewrite on the drama about a business man who gets a mysterious package in the mail and gets caught up in a government conspiracy. Shooting will begin in the spring. Endgame’s James Stern is producing with Hal Lieberman and Campbell’s production partner Lucienne Papon has also joined as producer. Carnahan dropped out of the film, in what I’m told was an amicable parting for personal reasons for Carnahan, who directed the upcoming Liam Neeson-starrer The Grey, which Open Road releases January 27. The script was written by Steven Karczynski and Carnahan had done re-write work on the most recent draft. Campbell’s repped by CAA. »
