Weekend Forecast: 'Jason Bourne', 'Bad Moms' and 'Nerve' Hit Theaters

28 July 2016 8:42 AM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass return to the Bourne franchise after a nine year, one film hiatus as Jason Bourne is looking at a #1 finish as it debuts in over 4,000 theaters this weekend. The weekend also features the R-rated comedy Bad Moms and Nerve, a PG-13, teen-targeted thriller that opened on Wednesday with $3.75 million and hopes to find an audience over the weekend as a piece of counter-counter-programming. Looking at a comfortable first place finish is Universal's Jason Bourne, the fifth film in the Bourne franchise and fourth starring Damon in the title role following the lackluster response to 2012's The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner. That said, this should be looked at more as a sequel to The Bourne Ultimatum, which opened with $69.2 million in August 2007. Of course, this year has not been kind to the majority of sequels. Following last weekend's opening for Star Trek Beyond and Ice Age: Collision Course, »

Trailer: Chinese Wild Fantasy "League of Gods"

14 July 2016 11:01 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

A highly articulated baby with intense martial arts skills and an anorexic plant version of Mike Wazowski from "Monsters Inc." get chased by a cross between a "Dune" sandworm and a giant armored sperm. That's just one shot in this wild trailer for "League of Gods," a new big-budget Chinese fantasy feature that is outright crazy in all the wackiest ways.

Jet Li, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Fan Bingbing, and Louis Koo all star in the film based on Fengshen Bang, an ancient Chinese mythology novel about a group of superheroes and a vixen spirit who is manipulating the king whilst disguised as one of his concubines. The film is set to open on over 15,000 screens in China at the end of July.

Jet Li & Fan Bingbing in Chinese Action Fantasy 'League of Gods' Trailer

14 July 2016 8:49 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"When crisis comes, heroes will rise." This looks so crazy. An official trailer has debuted online for an action fantasy film from China called League of Gods, being described as the "Chinese X-Men", and it's totally insane. The cast includes some big names including Fan Bingbing, Louis Koo, Tony Ka Fai Leung and Jet Li. This trailer has some wacky stuff in it - a baby with (farting) super powers, some kind of weird plant, a crazy CGI snake thing, surfing on shields, a guy with wings who can shoot lightning from his hands, and so much more. At least the action looks like it might be cool. The rest of it - I don't know. You must watch this. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Koan Hui's League of Gods, found on Vimeo (via Deadline): Based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Feng Shen Yan Yi (The Investiture »

Review: Cold War 2 Raises the Stakes Dramatically, Keeps the Action Pumping

7 July 2016 3:00 PM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Leung Ka Fai (aka Tony Leung, aka Big Tony) is the force of nature that propels Cold War 2 through nearly every tight spot it encounters. Returning as M.B. Lee, a granite-faced police official who graciously retired and ceded his power to Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) in 2012's Cold War, he is alternately hot and cold in the sequel, but always cool. As a 30-year veteran of the Hong Kong Police Department (Hkpd), he has learned how to control his temper, but when the volcano wants to blow, it blows, and so does Lee, and he leaves a trail of destruction in his wake. Leung infuses Lee with a range of emotions that are only barely suggested when his eyes widen and narrow with anger...

God of Gamblers Series 1989 - 2016

6 July 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Started in 1989 by the prolific Wong Jing, the God of Gamblers series has been continuing to entertain audiences for the past 27 years. Starring some of the biggest stars in Hong Kong cinema, Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Stephen Chow, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Ng Man Tat, Leon Lai, Nick Cheung, Donnie Yen and a lot more, the series has had its ups and downs, but each film usually has something for most Hong Kong cinema fans. Incorporating sequels, spinoffs, unofficial spinoffs and even spinoffs of spinoffs, the God of Gamblers series is truly one of a kind. God of Gamblers – 1989 This is where it all started. Probably the best film from Wong Jing (some would argue that it wouldn’t be difficult),...

Cold War 2 Heats Up Screens In U.S. And Canada For Well Go USA!

30 June 2016 7:16 AM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

The past several months have seen a busy promotionial campaign for the new sequel thriller, Cold War 2. It's a sequel that is hugely deserving given how solid the first film in 2012 is despite some wonky CG work. Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung are back again following the explosive action and tumult that ensued with two opposing authorities of the Hong Kong police forced to settle their differences within the seedy limits politics of their police force to solve the case of a missing police van with several officers, and the rising body count in the wake of missing money. The first film brought us an exciting story with an open-ended plot twist and so it was only a matter of minutes before a...

Chow Yun Fat joins the original cast of Hong Kong thriller Cold War - the highest grossing Hk film of 2012 - for the upcoming Cold War 2. Tony Leung Ka-fai, Aaron Kwok, Charlie Young, Eddie Peng and Aarif Rahman make up the rest of the core cast of the cop thriller with directors Longman Leung and Sunny Luk retunring.
