Film Review: Realistic, Difficult Lives Are Exposed in ‘Wiener-Dog’

20 July 2016 12:44 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago –Director Todd Solondz has made a career out of not shying away from the most uncomfortable negativities of life. From extreme disconnection (“Happiness”) to pedophilia (“Life During Wartime”) to the sad rejection of pre-teen years (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”), Solondz pulls no punches. He achieves that harsh intent yet again in “Wiener-Dog.”

Rating: 4.0/5.0

This is an anthology film, about a group of disparate people who somehow own the same female dachshund dog (the long bodied wiener dogs). It contains a quasi-sequel to “Welcome to the Dollhouse” (1995) – with Greta Gerwig portraying main character Dawn Wiener as an adult – and it tests the patience of any dog loving person as the pooch goes through a series of sorrowful circumstances. But this is what real life is, and Solondz to his credit is not afraid to expose it cinematically. It is tough stuff, and also tends toward the cynical dark side of human nature, »

‘Oslo’ Theater Review: The Handshake That Shook the World

11 July 2016 8:00 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

It’s not every season that a new play clocks in at a leisurely three hours, puts 15 actors on stage, and most astoundingly, features two intermissions. Tracy Letts‘ “August: Osage County” from 2007 comes to mind, but that’s a family soap opera. T. Rogers’s new play, “Oslo,” which opened Monday at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in New York, is much grander, almost Shakespearean stuff. He brings to the stage nothing less than the inspired, complicated subterfuge that was the peace negotiations between Israel and the Plo that led to the Oslo Accords of the 1990s. Sound dry? »

Since then, the young actor has been taking on vastly different indie projects, such as Horns, Kill Your Darlings, What If and his current films Now You See Me 2 and Swiss Army Man. The beloved actor will next be seen in an intense role as an undercover FBI agent in the new thriller Imperium, which is set for release on August 19. To get fans ready for Imperium, Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer.

Daniel Radcliffe as an Undercover Neo-Nazi in First 'Imperium' Trailer

5 July 2016 3:10 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Just because you're not looking at something, doesn't mean it's not there." Lionsgate has unveiled a trailer for a film called Imperium, starring Daniel Radcliffe as a young "analyst" who goes undercover as a Neo-Nazi in order to figure out the inner-workings and help take down a radical right-wing terrorist group. This actually looks quite intriguing, with Radcliffe going all-in with this role. The full cast includes Toni Collette, Tracy Letts, with Nestor Carbonell, Burn Gorman and Sam Trammell. I'm impressed by the choices Radcliffe has been making ever since Harry Potter, he seems to enjoy challenging himself with unique roles working with up-and-coming filmmakers, and it's refreshing. This looks like it could be good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Daniel Ragussis' Imperium, direct from Lionsgate's YouTube: Nate Foster (Daniel Radcliffe), a young, idealistic FBI agent, goes undercover to take down a radical right-wing terrorist group. Imperium Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe Goes Undercover To Bring Down White Supremacists

5 July 2016 2:30 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

If nothing else, Daniel Radcliffe is taking his career in interesting directions. He’s been in a lot of weird, smaller roles, and whether you love his films, or not, it’s at least rather heartening to see an actor who you have to imagine has a lot of options, try some things that are testing his limits.

His latest, Imperium, is a “true event” film about an FBI agent who goes undercover within a white supremacist organization.

The new trailer paints a pretty dark picture, but one of the most telling moments is when Radcliffe’s character, Nate Foster, tells his superior that he can’t do it. It brings the ideas of the film together quickly, and gives you an idea as to why Radcliffe is perhaps so perfect for the role.

Take a look, and let us know what you think.

First Trailer For Imperium Sees Daniel Radcliffe Infiltrate Neo Nazism

5 July 2016 1:40 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The convenient fiction promoted by many in the western world – that threats come from elsewhere – is about to be torn to shreds by writer-director Daniel Ragussis, in his feature-length debut, Imperium. Inspired by real events, the story was written by former FBI terrorism specialist, Michael German, and shines a very bright light on the issue of domestic, right-wing militias operating inside the United States of America.

Michael German spent 16 years with the FBI – initially investigating white collar crime, until another agent tapped him for undercover work, specifically because he had blonde hair and blue eyes. Tasked with infiltrating a neo-nazi group, German was instrumental in dismantling a number of potentially lethal terrorist plots, until he reported official misconduct and found his career ending.

While Imperium is simply “inspired” by real events, it would seem that the main character of the film is loosely based upon the former agent, and the »

Trailer: Radcliffe Goes Neo-Nazi In "Imperium"

5 July 2016 1:05 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Former "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe continues to make interesting and eclectic choices with his post-Potter career. Coming off the outright weirdness of "Swiss Army Man" in which he played a farting corpse with a boner that acts like a compass, he's set to tackle a much more serious undercover drama.

"Imperium" has Radcliffe playing Nate Foster, an FBI agent tasked with infiltrating the neo-Nazi movement. Toni Collette, Sam Trammell, Burn Gorman, Nestor Carbonell, and Tracy Letts also star in the film which is being written and directed by Daniel Ragussis. With far-right groups nearly winning elections in Europe, the old white supremacist stereotype is out of date and Ragussis says it's the right time to explore this issue. "Imperium" hits cinemas and VOD on August 19th.

Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t play a farting corpse in “Imperium,” but it might be worth seeing anyway. The “Swiss Army Man” actor stars an FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a white-supremacist organization in Daniel Ragussis’ thriller, the trailer for which is now available. Watch it below.

In it, we see Radcliffe himself shave his head and reluctantly joins the group, an undertaking for which he considers himself woefully unprepared. Burning crosses, dirty bombs, a certain hand gesture and other familiar signposts of the genre all suggest that Harry Potter himself will need more than his Patronus to get out of this one unscathed.

Daniel Radcliffe Goes Undercover as a Neo-Nazi in First Trailer For ‘Imperium’

5 July 2016 10:16 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

While Daniel Radcliffe could have easily fallen into a comfortable groove after the global attention of Harry Potter, one has to appreciate that it’s difficult to guess what exactly he’ll do next. Following up the summer’s break-out hit Swiss Army Man, he’ll be playing the next “best” thing to a dead corpse: a neo-Nazi.

More specifically, in Imperium he’s an FBI agent who goes undercover in a radical terrorist group. The first trailer has now arrived today and we’ll find out soon if this has the edge and tension of something like Green Room, as it gets released in August. Also starring Toni Collette, Tracy Letts, with Nestor Carbonell, Burn Gorman and Sam Trammell, check out the trailer and poster below for Daniel Ragussis‘ directorial debut.
