All The Way Review

21 May 2016 3:38 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As far as politicians go, Lyndon Baines Johnson was the boss hog. Just as he had in his days in the Senate, President Johnson would take to strong-arming his agenda past any suit unlucky enough to cross him, using everything from trapping folks in an elevator to whipping out his own President Johnson (aka “Jumbo”) and waving it at adversaries to imaginably stupefying effect.

Thankfully, there’s no appearances by the Executive Branch in All the Way, Jay Roach’s adaptation of the play by Robert Schenkkan, airing Saturday on HBO. The story follows Johnson, here played by Bryan Cranston, over his year-long “first term” as president, from Parkland in ‘63 to the polls in ‘64, mostly eyeing his role in passing the latter year’s Civil Rights Act. No shortage of gushing will be given to Cranston for “resurrecting” or “disappearing into” Lbj (he won a Tony for it on Broadway, »

‘All the Way’: Bryan Cranston reveals the Jackie Kennedy letter that made Lbj click for him

21 May 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Accidental president. Vietnam. Civil Rights Act. Bully. This is Lyndon B. Johnson’s legacy, or at least how he’s often remembered. New HBO film All the Way seeks to illuminate many sides of the man who stepped into the highest office in the land after John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Bryan Cranston plays Lbj in the film, premiering on HBO tonight, following his Tony-winning turn as the president in All the Way on Broadway. After he’d already done extensive research and study of the play’s text (itself thoroughly researched by playwright Robert Schenkkan), Cranston went on a second visit to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, TX, and that’s where the person of Lbj really clicked for the actor. “The character is always outside of you until you hopefully allow it to seep in. Then it becomes a part of you,” Cranston told HitFix. »

Exclusive: Composer Charlie Clouser talks Wayward Pines season 2, listen to a track from the premiere episode here

With season two of Wayward Pines set to get underway on Fox next Wednesday (May 25th), we caught up with composer Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails fame to discuss his work on the score for the hit series, as well as getting our hands on an exclusive track from the season two premiere!

In a few words how would you describe your Wayward Pines Season 2 score?

For season two, the score for Wayward Pines plays a bit more to the conspiratorial side of things – more intrigue, more sinister plots afoot as various factions are vying for control of the town’s destiny. That aspect of the story line gets kind of restrained tension approach to the music. Outside the fence, things also are getting a little more hairy with the Abbies, as they are becoming bolder and encroaching on the safe perimeter of the town, so there’s a »

TV Review: ‘All the Way’

18 May 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sometimes biographical films take on the attributes of their subjects, and that’s largely the path followed by “All the Way,” HBO’s adaptation of Robert Schenkkan’s play about Lyndon B. Johnson.

As depicted by star Bryan Cranston who won a Tony award for the role two years ago, Lbj was a human hurricane, whirling through the political scene at an intimidating speed, often talking, cajoling, and threatening the entire time. The problem with hurricanes, of course, is that they tend to flatten everything in their paths. While watching this talky and unsubtle small-screen production, it’s hard not to end up feeling as though you’re being browbeaten into submission or bludgeoned by a particularly thick history book.

There are a few scenes that crackle with tension, but they usually revolve around moments in which the president grows quiet, and the only clues to the character’s fearsome »

Wayward Pines Season 2 Review

17 May 2016 8:14 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

The truth can set you free. Unless you’re an hour-long dramatic series centered around a mystery with potentially supernatural and/or science fictional aspects hiding in the wings. If that’s the case, the truth can ruin you. Last year, Fox debuted Wayward Pines, a new show based on a series of mysterious books centering around a perpetually perturbed Secret Service agent and the indescribably weird town he wakes up in following a car accident, and it all worked – for five episodes.

The fifth episode of season one – titled “The Truth” – gave viewers just that, in a ballsy move that played directly against the enigmatic nature of its progenitors. But then the season went downhill, failing to capitalize on our knowledge of Wayward Pines‘ true nature and unable to prove that such a brave decision so early on in a show’s lifespan is one worth making. »

Summer TV Preview 2016: 13 Limited Series, TV Movies and Specials We Can't Wait to See

"All the Way" - Saturday, May 21 Creators: Jay Roach (director), Robert Schenkkan (writer) Stars: Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Melissa Leo, Frank Langella  Network: HBO HBO's last original film before the end of Emmys eligibility is a huge awards swing, telling the story of some very specific months in Lyndon B. Johnson's term as president. A louder-than-life figure who Bryan Cranston originally played in the stage version of Schenkkan's play, Johnson inherited his office in 1963, and in the following months found himself fighting a massive battle to pass a major civil rights bill while serving in the shadow of the assassinated John F. Kennedy. The all-star cast, including Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King Jr., is fantastic, but Cranston owns every second of screen time he gets, and the result is a fascinating portrait of one of the 20th century's most complicated politicians.  Read More: How Bryan Cranston Could Top 'Breaking Bad' in. »
