A new Trailer for “Snowden” shows off the biopic as a potential Oscar player

27 April 2016 12:49 PM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Earlier today, a new full length Trailer dropped for Snowden, the Oliver Stone helmed biopic of a certain notorious whistleblower. This conspiracy/political thriller seems right up Stone’s wheelhouse, with an A-list cast on to help, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the title role. We’ve only seen little teases for the film so far, along with a delayed release from last year (when the movie apparently wasn’t finished yet) to this year, so it’s pretty much been an X factor. Now, a bit more is known, so some musings can be done. Of course, you can see the Trailer at the end of the piece, but for now, let’s dive in and see what we can potentially make of this one… For those unaware, this is a biopic of Edward Snowden (played here by Gordon-Levitt), who we see go from dedicated work in the military to »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Nails Voice of 'Snowden' in Oliver Stone Film Trailer

27 April 2016 8:12 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The official trailer for "Snowden" is here, showing director Oliver Stone in full political paranoia mode, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing an impressive job as the titular hero/traitor.

If you've spent any time listening to Edward Snowden talk about his experience leaking classified intel from the National Security Agency (perhaps in the documentary "Citizenfour") you have an idea of his voice and cadence. Jgl nails it in the trailer, which starts with Snowden being discharged from Special Forces training after breaking both legs, and taking him through his employment at the CIA to his decision to leak information about Nsa surveillance activities.

The trailer illustrates Snowden's shock about the level of government spying, painting him as a brilliant, almost Bourne-style operative. But we also see more of Snowden's personal life, with Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend Lindsay.

Oliver Stone’s ‘Snowden’ Trailer Debuts Online

“They’re going to come for me. They’re going to come for all of you, too,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Edward Snowden says in the first trailer for Oliver Stone’s “Snowden.”

Released by Open Road Films on Wednesday, the trailer offers the first look at Gordon-Levitt’s Nsa whistleblower.

Snowden was hired by an Nsa contractor “to find the terrorist in the Internet haystack” only to discover a secret government surveillance program targeting phone calls. He leaked classified government documents and information to the media, and was charged in 2013 by the U.S. Department of Justice with two counts of violating the Espionage Act, and theft of government property. His passport was revoked by the U.S. Department of State and he was granted temporary asylum by Russia in 2014.

The film, which hits theaters on Sept. 16, was pushed back twice from its original release dates of Dec. 25, 2015 and May 13 of this year. »

Originally set for release last year, and having been privately screened at the Sun Valley Film Festival this spring, many figured Oliver Stone's "Snowden" would be a shoo-in for Cannes. And while it did screen for organizers, it didn't make the cut. Read More: Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' Pushed To Fall, Festival Buzz Starts Building "I saw 'Snowden' and it’s a really good film. It complements 'Citizenfour' marvelously. It helps understand a lot of things, it’s a fascinating film," festival honcho Thierry Fremaux told Screen Daily. "We’d have liked to have it at Cannes but the Us producers — who also did 'Spotlight' - want to aim for the Oscars so for them a Cannes premiere was a little too early. The slow-burning indie thriller The Fixer opens on a woman speaking intense Polish, while a naked man strapped to a wheel rolls slowly away behind her. As the camera rises, we realize that this is a play being performed for a tiny audience in a small-town theatre – most of them obviously perplexed by what’s happening in front of them. Then the camera hones in on the face of Osman (Dominic Rains), his face gradually splitting into an ecstatic, fascinated grin. Such is the tone of The Fixer, a movie that uses a thriller’s mechanisms to examine American culture and society through the eyes of an outsider.

Osman is an Afghani journalist who used to work as a “fixer” for Western journalists, guiding them through the complex society of Afghanistan in pursuit of their stories. Now he’s immigrated to a small Californian town with the help of his friend Gabe, »
