Film Review: ‘They’re Watching’

Film Review: ‘They’re Watching’
Proving once again that it’s a terrible, terrible idea for loud movie Americans to traipse around former Soviet backwaters, “They’re Watching” finds a reality-tv crew in way over their heads in a tiny Moldavian hamlet with a not-so-distant history of witch burning. Neither very plausible nor scary, this found-footage exercise is nonetheless entertaining enough for a spell, and the writing-directing duo of Jay Lender (a “SpongeBob SquarePants” animation vet) and Micah Wright (hitherto primarily a video-game writer) clearly don’t intend for it to be taken too seriously. Horror fans will be divided on whether the hectic finale makes it or breaks it. Amplify four-walled the pic on 10 U.S. screens starting Friday, simultaneous with the VOD release that will doubtless provide its principal returns.

After a short flash-forward to the end — revealing that at least one character’s fate involves the business end of an ax — we

Movie Review – They’re Watching (2016)

They’re Watching, 2016.

Directed by Jay Lander and Micah Wright.

Starring David Alpay, Cristian Balint, Brigid Brannagh, Dimitri Diatchenko, Mia Faith, Carrie Genzel and Kris Lemche.

Synopsis:

An American TV crew are sent to a small Moldovan village to record a reality home improvement show, but they soon come into conflict with the locals, and their folkloric beliefs of witchcraft.

This found footage horror-comedy begins with a fictionalised reality TV home redevelopment/relocation programme. Californian artist and pottery enthusiast Becky Westlake (Brigid Brannagh) and her spouse Goran Potsnik (Cristian Balint), a shallow soccer player, are looking for a fixer-upper property on the outskirts of a Moldovan village. Local smooth talking salesman Vladimir Filat (Dimitri Diatchenko) takes them around this “potential” country home; an abandoned, half-burned, derelict building. Filat’s unabashed optimism, and possible naiveté, goes to work to smooth out any issues with the house. So whenever Goran points out the obvious,

They’re Watching, So Maybe You Don’t Need To?

Hello again found footage, my old friend. I kid of course. We were never friends. They’re Watching is the latest attempt at delivering found footage (Ff hereafter) thrills, and while it makes some progress it unsurprisingly stalls where so many Ff films have failed before. Home Hunters Global is a globe-hopping reality show about people finding new homes in international locales — think House Hunters International on a budget — and their latest episode introduces viewers to Becky (Brigid Brannagh), an American artist hoping to settle in the Eastern European nation of Moldova. She’s found her new home in the small town of Pavlovka where the locals are twitchy and the Starbucks are non-existent, but when the show’s crew returns a few months later to follow-up on her progress they find more than renovations waiting for them. The crew — cameraman Greg (David Alpay), sound guy Alex (Kris Lemche), new hire Sarah (Mia Faith), and producer Kate

Watch Exclusive Clip For Micah Wright And Jay Lender’s Tense Horror Flick They’re Watching

Careful, They’re Watching, but in an effort to ease the tension, We Got This Covered has an exclusive clip for Micah Wright and Jay Lender’s horror flick to share with you today, and it’s simply dripping with tension.

Billed as a horror-comedy at its dark and brooding core, They’re Watching sends a group of friends to Moldova in search of a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. What they find, however, is anything but normal, irking a volatile religious cult birthed in the shadows of the Eastern European village.

Of those making the ill-advised – and likely one-way – trip to Moldova are Brigid Brannagh, Kris Lemche and David Alpay, and fans can look forward to the release of Wright and Lender’s genre mash-up tomorrow, March 25.

Look for Micah Wright and Jay Lender’s feature when They’re Watching creeps out of the shadows and into theaters today,

They’re Watching Review

*Read In Russian-y Accent* “Only found-footage horror comedy in Moldova iz Best found-footage horror comedy in Moldova” – right? Sorry Dorothina, you’re not in Pavloka anymore. There’s a big cinematic world out there filled with found-footage hopefuls and, unfortunately, They’re Watching is pretty middling by comparison.

Filmmakers Jay Lender and Micah Wright do their best to conjure a witchy Eastern European tale when a reality show crew returns to detail a drastic home makeover. Home Hunters Global unites prospective buyers with fixer-upper dumps, and after an initial sale, host Kate Banks (Carrie Genzel) returns to update viewers on the progress.

In Kate’s latest season, Becky (Brigid Brannagh) and her soccer-playing husband Goran (Cristian Balint) bought the “worst house in Moldova,” and it’s time to witness the transformation. Kate returns to Pavloka with her camera duo, Alex (Kris Lemche) and Greg (David Alpay), along with Sarah (Mia Faith

"They're Watching" Movie Review

.Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. and .My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. are not the only ones vying for your attention this weekend. Let me direct you to a small movie with some pretty big scares, it.s called .They.re Watching,. a film that is so funny, it.s scary.

Adapting the found footage genre, .They.re Watching. tells the tale of a group of American TV crew making a .House Hunters. style reality show in the quaint and mysterious village of Moldova in Eastern Europe.

The first half of the film, when we meet the characters, is the highlight for me. .They.re Watching. has a strong cast and each are likable enough to follow their crazy adventure. There.s the sound guy named Alex (Kris Lemche), Greg the photojournalist (David Alpay), Mia Faith is Sara the production assistant, and my favorite, Carrie Genzel who is the stern Type A producer Kate.

It's a Renovation Nightmare: See an Exclusive Clip from the House Hunters-Inspired Horror Movie They're Watching
Open floor plan, stainless steel appliances and ... scary, unexplained rituals? In an exclusive clip from They're Watching, the House Hunters-esque horror comedy from Micah Wright and Jay Lender, things get a little spooky when a TV crew member is filming B-roll footage. (A warning: The clip contains some Nsfw language.) Recording video around a renovated Eastern European home, staffers from an American home-improvement TV show encounter something seemingly unexplainable. "Go make yourself useful, and go get me some B-roll shots," the woman's boss commands. "Shoot some f------ trees, some cows, just get the f--- out of my face." Filming close-ups of the forest setting,

They're Watching and You're Laughing with the Film's Theatrical Trailer

A new trailer for They're Watching has been released. Very comedic, the clip shows a group of friends hounded by an Eastern European cult. From the creators of Spongebob Squarepants, the theatrical trailer also shows what can happen when you move to Moldova. Brigid Brannagh, Kris Lemche and Carrie Genzel star in this feature, which will be released later this month. The synopsis mentions a home improvement television show. From there, the protagonists enter a village, where you are not allowed to say the word "witch." Of course, someone does say the word and the town's weirdos begin to hound Becky (Brannagh) and her friends. The film releases on March 25th, 2016. On this date, the film will be available in a few select theatres and through video-on-demand. Film fans can find a few laughs now, in the trailer and even more, when the film releases soon! ‘Tales From the Darkside’ Pilot Garners Interest From Cable, Digital

It’s been barely 48 hours since the CW passed on the Tales from the Darkside reboot, and I hear there are multiple outlets that have reached out to inquire about the project. I hear the list of the interested parties, none of which has seen the pilot yet, include cable networks Syfy, MTV, VH1 and possibly streaming service Hulu. A remake of the 1980s horror/fantasy/thriller anthology series, Tales From The Darkside, starring Kris Lemche, hails from writer Joe…

'Tales from the Darkside' TV Reboot Not Happening on The CW

'Tales from the Darkside' TV Reboot Not Happening on The CW
Sad news for horror fans! The CW has officially passed on the Tales from the Darkside revival. A reboot of the popular 80s anthology series has been in development since November 2013. It is not exactly clear why The CW passed, and it's possible that the show could move to another network or digital streaming platform.

Joe Hill, the author of Horns, Locke & Key and the son of celebrated novelist Stephen King, wrote the pilot script, while serving as an executive producer alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The author had publicly raved about the pilot, and the revival had been gaining quite a lot of traction among fans. While the pilot is said to have been well executed, The CW was uncertain about the anthology format, even though season long anthologies have been working for FX with shows such as American Horror Story and Fargo. The new Tales from the Darkside series,

Tales From The Darkside TV Series Reboot Not Moving Forward at The CW

  • DailyDead
The CW won't be returning to the place that's "not as brightly lit", as the network has apparently passed on the reboot of George A. Romero's 1980s anthology series, Tales From the Darkside.

According to CarterMatt.com, The CW will not be moving forward with their Tales From the Darkside reboot, with the show's anthology format and lack of a showrunner reportedly two of the reasons why the network passed on the series.

Joe Hill (Horns, NOS4A2, Locke & Key) wrote and executive produced the project and Kris Lemche (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Final Destination 3, Ginger Snaps, eXistenZ, Haven) was playing the lead role, a character named Newman who had knowledge of The Darkside and was going to appear in all (or most) episodes.

As fans will remember, the original Tales From the Darkside was a spinoff of Romero's Creepshow efforts. Like a 1980s cousin of The Twilight Zone,
