Additional Details
Other Works:
Co-directed the flop 1938 Cole Porter musical, You Never Know. Play doctor George Abbott was hired on after the production was met with dismal reviews during it's pre-Broadway run. Production was complicated by serious personality conflicts between Libby Holman and co-star Lupe Velez, numerous on-going scene cuts with additional non-Porter songs added and mediocre reviews. Play was notable for being the only Broadway appearance of Toby Wing, who had married famed aviator Dick Merrill the previous June. Production also coincided with Cole Porter's crippling horse riding accident, which would ultimately result in his leg amputation. Star Clifton Webb flatly refused an offer to take the production on a road tour after only 73 performances. moreMessage Boards
