Grey's Anatomy Season 9: Will Anyone Else Die?!

19 May 2012 5:35 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

With Grey's Anatomy fans still reeling from the eighth season finale of the ABC drama, creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes has a warning for those mourning the shocking death of a fan favorite:

They are still out there.

In an interview with E! Online, Rhimes said that "everyone is still so immersed in ‘Who died?'" that "no one is talking about the thing that I actually think is important and was the point of the [season finale]."

What would that be exactly? You may not be ready for this ...

"They're still out there in the forest, and we don't know if they are going to be Ok," she said. "We left it open for a reason because ... I hate to say this, but just because you saw people alive at the end of the finale doesn't mean they're going to be alive when the season starts up."

"We are completely »

'Grey's Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes discusses the season finale shockers

18 May 2012 12:44 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Shonda Rhimes says she was as sick as any of the viewers over the events in the "Grey's Anatomy" season finale Thursday night (May 17). She just got there sooner.

(Spoilers for the finale are below. Take heed.)

"We end the season not knowing Anything about the future," Rhimes says in a very long tweet posted early Friday. "Except for two things. We know we are definitely saying goodbye to two of my favorite people: Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy)."

Leigh's Lexie Grey was the character who died -- but we'd heard for a long time that someone would, so it wasn't unexpected. Raver's departure, though? That was a shock.

"Kim's series option was up and she was ready to give Teddy Altman a much-needed vacation," Rhimes explains. "It's been a pleasure working with someone as talented and funny and kind as Kim; everyone is going to miss her terribly. »

Shonda Rhimes Speaks on Shocking Grey's Anatomy Death

18 May 2012 9:42 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Warning: Turn back now if you haven't seen the Grey's Anatomy season finale.

After the controversial and shocking death of a fan favorite, creator Shonda Rhimes is weighing in on the decision to bid that character farewell ... along with another doctor who also left town.

"Flight" rocked longtime fans of the ABC drama to the core, perhaps even more than past years. A beloved character meeting a gruesome, horrible and absolutely shocking death will do that.

"They're not really gone for good, are they?", more than a few fans likely asked.

But they are. Rhimes released a statement via Twitter after the episode, saying she's as sad as you are about what happened. Read it below, then comment with your take on her remarks:

Warning. If You Have Not Yet Watched The Season 8 Grey's Anatomy Finale, Do Not Read This Super-long Tweet. Okay? Seriously. Last chance...

[Spoilers for last night's episode from here on out.] Last night's Grey's Anatomy featured the annual tradition of the Killing Off of Characters, and this year, poor, sad Lexie's number was up. Shonda Rhimes confirmed on Twitter that Lexie and Teddy — who got fired, not killed — were both off the show next season. "We know we are definitely saying goodbye to two of my favorite people: Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy)," Rhimes wrote. Raver's contract was up, and Rhimes says she and Leigh "both decided this was the right time for her character's journey to end." What about Mark's journey, Shonda? There is so much he-weeping in store next season. »

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season Finale: How Do You Feel About The Major Death?

18 May 2012 6:22 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Warning: Stop reading if you haven't watched the eighth season finale of 'Grey's Anatomy!' The May 17 season finale of Grey's Anatomy was painful to watch -- and not only because of Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) high-pitched screams of terror that, eventually, only dogs could hear. The episode also featured the shocking death of a beloved character. So which doc joined George (T.R. Knight) in that big operating room in the sky? The victim ended up being Lexie (Chyler Leigh), who met her untimely end after the team was involved in a plane crash. In arguably the most intense scene Grey's has delivered in quite some time, Mark (Eric Dane) tried desperately to pick up the wing of the plane that was crushing her. "Tell Meredith that I love her, and that she was a good sister," she told him. And after Mark told her he loved her, she replied, »

Fans knew for weeks that a Grey's Anatomy death was coming in the finale, but few could have suspected it would happen so early in the episode or that it would be as devastating for the characters who survived the crash.

Around the 20 minute mark, Lexie Grey succumbed to wounds she suffered in a plane crash that left Meredith, Cristina, Mark, Derek and Arizona behind. Her death, and Teddy's exodus from Seattle Grace, set the Twitter-verse into a tailspin that flooded my timeline with tears.

The "Grey's Anatomy" (Thu., 9 p.m. Et on ABC) Season 8 Finale was a gut-wrenching one as fans had to bid farewell to one of the major characters.

Viewers had been left hanging at the end of the penultimate episode after the doctors' plane crashed and bodies were left strewn on the ground.

The Season Finale revealed that the doctor who didn't make it out alive was ... Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh).

As she lay on the ground, crushed by the fusillage, Mark (Eric Dane) held her hand and confessed his true feelings. "I love you," he said. "I’ve always been in love with you. I will always be in love with you."

However, there was room for some levity in the episode as Cristina (Sandra Oh) remarked on Seattle Grace staff's remarkably high body count.

'Grey's Anatomy' finale sets up Season 9 without Chyler Leigh

The best way to describe Thursday's finale of "Grey's Anatomy" is to call it unsettling. We knew that there was a death on the way, and we knew exactly which doctors were in the devastating plane crash, but we still weren't prepared for the raw agony of the episode.

Lexie (Chyler Leigh) died in the first 20 minutes of the hour, with little fanfare, aside from a powerful declaration of love from Mark. There were none of the emotional manipulation tools usually employed by Shonda Rhimes -- it wasn't held until the end of the episode, and there were no soaring musical montages. The moment relied entirely on writing and performances.

With such a jarring start to the episode, we expected some comfort by the end -- but our heroes went unrescued. When we last saw them, Cristina was hungry, Meredith was exhausted, Derek's left hand was so mangled that it's »

Seriously? Seriously.

I need a few minutes to catch my breath after what can be remembered as one of the most emotional and gory finales in Grey’s Anatomy history.

We were warned. We knew this episode was going to be rough. Someone was going to die. The only problem? Knowing it’s going to happen doesn’t make it any easier. So let’s get to it for the last time this season. Put down those tissues, time to discuss “Flight."
