31 Days of Horror: ‘Spiders 3D’ Review

14 October 2013 3:49 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Patrick Muldoon, Christa Campbell, William Hope, Shelly Varod, Pete Lee-Wilson, Jon Mack, Sydney Sweeney | Written by Joseph Farrugia | Directed by Tibor Takacs

I love a good (or so bad its good) monster movie – as you can probably tell by the number of them I’ve reviewed here at Nerdly. Recently the monster movie has seen a resurgence of the “nature gone wild” format – in particular the killer shark movie. But sharks are not only mans greatest enemy, well not if low-budget horror and sci-fi are to be believed, we also have to fear spiders… Giant spiders!

From the black and white terror of Tarantula in the Fifties to the hilarious comedy horror of Eight Legged Freaks, giant spiders (and spiders »

Title: Spiders Director: Tibor Takacs Starring: Patrick Muldoon, Christa Campbell, Sydney Sweeney, William Hope, Pete Lee-Wilson A serviceable enough B-feature of the sort that could appropriately induce nightmares in adolescents and arachnophobes, modestly budgeted horror offering “Spiders” opts for action antics when a bit more creepy-crawly tension and mystery would have better suited its story. “Spiders” is set in New York City, but centers around mutant arachnids whose DNA was first discovered in a spacecraft found deep under a Russian ice mountain more than 20 years ago. Hard to believe we’re due two giant spiders terrorizing a major city movies this year. Mega Spider will have to wait while Christa Campbell and Patrick Muldoon contend with giant spiders in a 3D movie from the director of The Gate.

Christa Campbell (who also served as a producer on Texas Chainsaw 3D, so you know she’s have a good week regardless of what knuckleheads like myself thought of the film) stars as a New York City health inspector who pairs up with Starship Troopers brain suckee Patrick Muldoon to contend with mutant spiders ranging from five-foot to “Godzilla vs.” size spawned by the wreckage of a Soviet space station that crashes down onto the Big Apple.

Tibor Tackas, director of such fine horror offerings as The Gate, I, Madman, Mansquito, and Ice Spiders directs from a script by Joseph Farrugia.
