Ava DuVernay Wants ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ to Be ‘a Lynn Shelton Movie, Just on a Larger Budget’

Ava DuVernay Wants ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ to Be ‘a Lynn Shelton Movie, Just on a Larger Budget’
Ava DuVernay and Ryan Coogler first met as indie directors at Sundance in 2013, yet their conversation at Vulture Festival at the Hollywood Roosevelt November 19 wasn’t exactly a long-overdue reunion. “Yesterday you were in our suite, looking at fruit wraps?” DuVernay asked.

They are respectively editing “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Black Panther” on the Disney lot (“behind doors two steps away from each other,” according to DuVernay). The expected blockbusters — each budgeted in excess of $100 million — hit theaters three weeks apart in early 2018.

At 31, Coogler is a year younger than DuVernay was when she first picked up a camera. Nevertheless, he is completely in awe of her “machine”-like ways. “[She] makes TV on the side,” gaped Coogler. “I don’t know how she does it. Literally, I’m in

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 Review

There’s one important element that Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 nails with perfection: the tried-and-true Lego experience. Objects explode in brilliant fashion, players gather studs with reckless abandon, and minifigures unlock with enough frequency to completely wear out that dopamine receptor in your brain. Of course, the latest chaotic installment of the Lego Marvel series doesn’t deviate too far from the previously established formula, which means it probably won’t draw new gamers into the fold. Still, it checks all the right boxes and hits most of the necessary marks, giving fans exactly what they crave. That said, don’t expect anything too different from what you’ve played before.

During the game’s opening sequence, which features the Guardians of the Galaxy battling an intergalactic villain known as Kang (who travels around in an enormous sword-shaped spacecraft), I kicked things off with my usual Lego ritual: destroying as

Video Game Review – Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

Thomas Roach reviews Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2…

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is the latest game in from Lego and Travellers Tales. The story here revolves around Kang the Conqueror travelling though time and dimensions stealing parts of cities to make a super city – Chronopolis. The plot introduces a new range of Marvel characters that we haven’t seen before in previous games, as well as alternate versions from different realities.

The game has a decent story and allows you to take control of so many cool characters – all with unique abilities and aesthetics. Like with every Lego game, each character has a unique set of powers that allows you to overcome obstacles in each level. There are plenty of levels with different lengths and difficulty and a cool hub world to explore. The game also allows you to play co-op which I didn’t get a chance to do with someone,

How ‘X-Men’ Became One of TV’s Best Animated Series (Flashback)

How ‘X-Men’ Became One of TV’s Best Animated Series (Flashback)
“Mankind has always feared what it doesn’t understand.”

Spoken by Ian McKellen’s Magneto in the first X-Men feature film adaptation in 2000, that pivotal theme has always illuminated a character’s stance in every medium of this particular Marvel universe. In 1992, an approximate version of the line was uttered by Storm (voiced by Iona Morris) in the pilot of the X-Men animated series, which premiered 25 years ago in October.

The Fox series’ influence also included pushing comic book stories into mainstream pop culture, as well as preparing future audiences with a story structure that challenged growing minds. As if pulling this off wasn’t a large enough challenge, X-Men concurrently offered hope and emotional refuge from the adolescent anxieties of its young viewers, which we all know (now) simply turn out to be simply less advanced versions of later adult anxieties.

The X-Men comics, originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, were a part of

‘Get Down’ Star Justice Smith Lands Lead in Live-Action ‘Pokemon’ Movie for Legendary (Exclusive)
Legendary has tapped breakout talent Justice Smith to star in the first-ever live-action “Pokemon” film titled “Detective Pikachu,” based on the titular character, sources tell Variety.

Rob Letterman is on board to direct from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.

First introduced in Japan in 1996, Pokemon has spawned more than 295 million video games sold worldwide, 23.6 billion Tcg cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 20 seasons. The hugely popular “Pokemon Go” app saw the pocket monsters surge back into the pop culture consciousnesses last year.

Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the live-action film outside Japan, as it has done with Legendary’s other films for years. The Pokémon Company’s long time movie collaborator, Toho, will handle distribution of the film franchise in Japan, as it had similarly done in its partnership with Legendary on “Godzilla.”

Smith recently broke out on the Netflix musical drama series “The Get Down” after director Baz Luhrmann handpicked

Morbius the Living Vampire Is Sony's Next Spider-Man Spin-Off
It looks like Sony has even more projects on the burner for their Spider-Man spin-off movie universe than we previously thought. Developed in secret, it's come to light that the studio is moving forward with a movie based on Morbius the Living Vampire. According to a new report, the script has been submitted and the studio is ready to get it in front of a camera, which likely means finding a director to tackle the project. No director's names were brought up in this initial report about the next Spider-Man spin-off for Sony's standalone Marvel Universe.

The movie, simply titled Morbius, was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who most recently wrote the live-action Power Rangers movie for Saban and Lionsgate. Their other credits include God's of Egypt, Dracula Untold and The Last Witch Hunter. So this seems to be in their wheelhouse. While no specific plot details have been provided,

Stan Lee says a Black Widow movie will happen one day

It’s long been requested by fans, and if Stan Lee is to be believed, it’s only a matter of time before we get to see the Black Widow headlining her own solo Marvel movie.

According to Comic Book, Lee was taking part in a panel at the Supanova Comic Con in Brisbane, where he stated that: “One day there will be a Black Widow movie.”

Now, of course, this isn’t exactly confirmation that a Black Widow movie is incoming from Marvel Studios, and most likely is just Lee sharing his personal opinion, rather than insider information.

Stan Lee Says We’re Getting A Black Widow Solo Movie

Black Widow is a name with a notable legacy within Marvel comic book lore. Many women have carried that moniker, including Claire Voyant – one of the earliest costumed, super-powered women to appear in comics. While cinema audiences today associate the name with a cat-suited Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow has also been the name of not only a mystical being possessed by Satan, but also a Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who was the ex-wife of Nick Fury. She’s even been a serial killer with cannibalistic tendencies.

But, for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and indeed, comic book movie fans everywhere – the version of Black Widow we see on the big screen today has come to be a symbol of female determination and capability. Within that movie franchise, through films of varying quality, she’s evolved into a complex character, whose loyalty and choices can determine
