The controversial celebrity “anti-psychiatrist” Rd Laing was something like a Scottish Timothy Leary, a Swinging Sixties counterculture icon who attracted a cult following among the young, shared a stage with The Grateful Dead and dropped LSD with Sean Connery. A best-selling author and “acid Marxist,” Laing argued that mental illness was a valid reaction to the brutalizing realities of society and family. A radical opponent of prison-like asylums and anti-psychotic drugs, the Glasgow-born guru challenged the medical establishment while enjoying a hedonistic rock-star lifestyle, partying with famous fans including The Beatles.

The 46-year-old actor joins Stockard Channing as Elizabeth Taylor and Brian Cox as Marlon Brando in a half-hour episode of Urban Myths, an eight-part series focusing on rumored celebrity experiences. In "Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon," Fiennes portrays Jackson in a retelling of the time the three stars embarked on a road trip after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Watch: First Look at Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in ‘Urban Myths’ Trailer

10 January 2017 6:02 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Following last year’s scandal over casting Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in its road-trip comedy, Sky Arts released the first trailer for “Urban Myths.” The lighthearted Ben Palmer-directed piece tells the tale of Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, and Michael Jackson as they attempt to journey back to West Coast in the aftermath of 9/11. And if the trailer is anything to go on, it seems more “true…ish stories” will be told as well.

The fabled road trip isn’t the only historical story told in “Urban Myths,” it seems. It appears the special includes a larger set of stories, as confirmed in a final shot: “Urban Myths: A Brand New Collection of Comedies,” the words read.

Hitler (Iwan Rheon) and “Hitler’s friend” (Rupert Grint), as he is referred to in a superimposed credit, appear to be painting some of Hitler’s early artwork. The friend seems more like an assistant to the infamous mass-murderer »
