With all the horror films I watch, I sometimes forget how frightening something as simplistic as a shadow emerging from the fog can be and yet, you’ll find a few moments of these here in The Fog and each time, as the sailor’s ghosts lurk towards these unsuspecting poor souls, they’re as effective and chilling as they were the first time – Now, this is what makes The Fog so effective – John Carpenter’s understanding of horror and how he chooses to wonderfully build the mood and suck the audience into the worlds he establishes.

Blair, Serbedzija, Davis roll in for remake of 'Fog'
Selma Blair has signed on for the remake of John Carpenter's classic horror-thriller The Fog for Revolution Studios. Also joining the cast are DeRay Davis and Rade Serbedzija. Rupert Wainwright is directing the film, and the late Debra Hill, David Foster and Carpenter are the producers. Cooper Layne is writing from the screenplay by Hill and Carpenter for the original 1980 film. Fog is set in a Northern California town near where a ship sank about 100 years earlier under mysterious circumstances in a thick, eerie fog. The ghosts of the deceased mariners return from their watery graves to seek revenge. Tom Welling and Maggie Grace also star. Blair is stepping into the role originally portrayed by Adrienne Barbeau, a DJ and owner of a lighthouse. Serbedzija plays Blake, who seeks revenge against the citizens of Antonio Bay. Blair's upcoming films include Pretty Persuasion and The Alibi. She will shoot Hellboy II after she completes Fog. She is repped by CAA and Brillstein-Grey. Davis appeared in Barbershop and Barbershop 2. He will soon recur in HBO's Entourage. He is repped by April Lim of Global Artists Agency and Power Entertainment. Wainwright, whose credits include 1999's Stigmata, had been due to direct MGM's Blood and Chocolate but is now expected to leave that project, for which MGM is likely to enlist a new director. Fog is set in a Northern Californian town about 100 years ago where a ship sank under mysterious circumstances in a thick, eerie fog. The ghosts of the deceased mariners return from their watery graves to seek their revenge. Wainwright's credits include The Sadness of Sex, Blank Check and the TV project Wolf Lake. The project reunites Diesel with the same studio that distributed his last feature, Revolution Studio's XXX. Dreadnaught is described as a David-and-Goliath dual at sea that pits a relentless captain against his commanding officer on the most high-tech warship ever created. Red Wagon Prods.' Lucy Fisher and Doug Wick will produce the project with Sean Bailey and Cooper Layne, who brought the original script to the company. Columbia executive vp Amy Baer is overseeing the project. Blake Masters wrote the original script with a rewrite by Dan Gilroy and David Arata. Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson wrote the most recent draft. Diesel is repped by Endeavor and the Firm.
