- He got the chance to work on "Straw Dogs", his first major film credit, when director Sam Peckinpah quarreled with his original choice for editor, Norman Savage. Lawson had been working as Savage's assistant on "Ryan's Daughter", and, after Savage had walked off "Straw Dogs", he was promoted to full editor by Peckinpah.
