5 Best WWE Draft 2016 Moments

21 July 2016 11:18 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The following is a guest post from WrestleTalk. Subscribe to their YouTube channel for new videos every day.

Yesterday I counted down my five worst WWE Draft moments. But it wasn’t all gloom, doom and Cesaro to Raw.

Although there were no surprise returns, the focus was still very much on the authority figures and there’s still nobody on the main roster called Shinsuke Nakamura – there were high spots.

Five, by my count…

5. The Man Raw Remembered

Way down in the 6th round, as Raw’s 16th draft pick, Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley chose The Man That Gravity Forgot Until His Ankle Injury A Few Months Ago – Neville.

Why is this so important? Neville has found himself stuck in the lower mid-card since being called up from Nxt. Despite being a phenomenal high-flyer, WWE couldn’t work out the best way to use him.

Well now…they have a cruiserweight division. »

Late last week, WWE commentator Jerry Lawler and his fiancee Lauryn McBride were arrested following a domestic dispute. As for what exactly happened, there are two sides to the story.

Jerry Lawler Suspended by WWE After Domestic Violence Arrest

Wrestler Jerry Lawler, known in the ring as “The King,” has been indefinitely suspended by WWE after being arrested on domestic violence charges on Thursday night in Tennessee.

“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest,” the organization said in a statement on its site.

Lawler, 66, and his girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, 27, were both taken into custody for domestic assault, with each alleging that the other had assaulted them.

According to various outlets, an arrest affidavit says the couple told officers they got into a heated argument that turned physical. McBride said Lawler held her against the kitchen counter, hit her on the head and pushed her against the stove. She said Lawler then placed an unloaded pistol on the counter and told her “kill yourself.”

Watch David Letterman's Rejected Airplane! Audition

19 May 2016 12:54 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Before launching his late-night legacy in the 1980s, David Letterman had a few forays into the acting world, appearing in an episode of Mork & Mindy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and a few other programs in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. As it turns out, though, the actor/comedian actually auditioned for a role that may have changed his career. The iconic 1980 comedy Airplane!. Through the magic of the internet, the video of his screen test for the Ted Striker role has surfaced, which is well worth watching.

The video surfaced on YouTube last week, and is actually taken from a 1982 episode of Late Night with David Letterman, the first year of this landmark NBC program, where the host welcomed Airplane! writer-directors Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker as guests. During the episode, the filmmakers showed the audience David Letterman's 1979 screen test for Ted Striker, a »

Nxt 27.04.16 Recap & Review – Samoa Joe wins the Nxt Championship, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Drifter, Asuka vs. Eva Marie and more

28 April 2016 8:26 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We have a new Nxt Champion – but we’re still in the Dallas tapings four weeks out from WrestleMania. That means we’ve got another house show version of Nxt TV with appereances from Asuka, Eva Marie, The Revival, Hype Bros, Blake & Murphy, Shinsuke Nakamura and more…

1. Asuka vs. Eva Marie

This was a pretty sloppy match in places, and it wasn’t Asuka’s fault. Eva was heavily booed coming out and the crowd chanted ‘you can’t wrestle’ at her. Corey Graves, brilliantly, said the crowd needs to watch Askua more as she’s a great wrestler. Graves really is getting better and better at this. He’s like 1998 Jerry Lawler. Eva stalled early on but did get some offence in. It wasn’t long before Askua took over with some hip attacks and some mocking dancing. Nia Jax comes down to the ring to support Eva. Marie »

Hollywood Remembers ‘Legendary Actor’ Patty Duke Who ‘Left a Mark on This World’

The death of legendary actress Patty Duke, at age 69, triggered an outpouring of condolences on social media from the Hollywood community.

Melissa Gilbert, who worked with Duke on “The Miracle Worker” and “Family of Strangers,” issued a statement on Tuesday referring to Duke with her given name, Annie Marie Duke: “Anna was my dear friend, teacher, and a second mother. Her passing leaves a huge hole in my heart. She helped raise me to be the woman I am today. She was so loved by so many people including me. She had a mind-boggling depth of talent, a fantastic sense of humor and survived being a child actor in the worst of circumstances. Anna won every award possible as a performer and as a humanitarian, and it was all well-deserved — she was an extraordinary human being.”

Mauro Ranallo Misses WWE Smackdown Tapings Due To Flu

17 February 2016 1:48 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

At Tuesday’s Smackdown! tapings, new play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo was absent from his post. Instead, Michael Cole filled in, reuniting the Raw announce team of Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Byron Saxton.

Many fans were nervous that this quick about-face signaled disaster for the WWE career of Ranallo, whose expert commentary has been seen as a breath of fresh air. It was especially disconcerting given that the usually Twitter-friendly broadcaster was silent in the face of fan questions regarding his status on Smackdown!

Thankfully, Ranallo’s position with WWE is safe. According to reports (and later, Ranallo himself via Twitter), the 2015 Wrestling Observer Newsletter TV Announcer of the Year was stricken with a case of the flu. He showed up to Tuesday’s Smackdown! tapings in Ontario, CA willing to work, but when management assessed his condition, they decided he would be better served by going back home to get some rest. »

Jerry Lawler Received Death Threats Over Donald Trump Tweet

16 February 2016 11:49 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Jerry Lawler is no stranger to politics. The wrestling legend and current WWE announcer once ran for Mayor of his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. However, a simple tweet Lawler sent out last week resulted in more backlash over politics than he has likely ever received.

If you’re a longtime wrestling fan, you’ve probably heard Lawler make the occasional political reference over the years. Typically during presidential election years, Lawler has been known to take a political jab when a chance arises while he is doing commentary. This time, Lawler made his support for Donald Trump’s presidential run known via social media.

Lawler sent out the following tweet last week, and it was met with immediate blowback from many of his followers:

Supporting @realDonaldTrump like I do is great. Getting out to vote for him even better! Vote today Nh! #Fitn #TrumpTrain

25 Most Revealing WWE Instagram Posts Of The Week (31st Jan)

31 January 2016 3:11 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

It’s quite appropriate that so many WWE stars participate in the Throwback Thursday hashtag: if you were to suggest that 2016 would see Triple H the champ, Jerry Lawler still making questionably racist comments on Smackdown, Chris Jericho in the ring and another Big Show face turn, you might have been laughed off the Internet.

But without some of the company’s top talents sidelined through injury that’s the lay of the land we all face. And there’s clearly some comfort for the company in familiarity: which is why The Rock came back to help push a WrestleMania where everyone already knows what the main event is going to be. At least there’s still some room for new talents though.

10 Best Things The Internet Has Done With WWE Raw (Jan 25)

26 January 2016 12:24 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

After the best Royal Rumble for half a decade, the following Raw was always going to be an eventful one – regardless of its actual quality. The PPV fallout included the return of The Rock, Triple H’s celebration, and Aj Styles’ first singles match in WWE (how surreal does that still sound!?).

On the whole, it was a pretty good Raw, but that didn’t stop the internet from exploiting every little quirk and foible of the product to squeeze out a laugh or two online. It’s comforting to know that, even during the most boring of episodes, much entertainment can still be found by browsing Twitter, Reddit, and so on – but during a Raw as action-packed as this week’s, the effect can actually be a little overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve singled out a few of the best posts you may have missed.

12 Superstars WWE Royal Rumble 2016 Proved Are Struggling

25 January 2016 7:18 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

With last night’s Royal Rumble now in the history books, there was a ton of news coming out of the show. From the debut of Aj Styles and the return of Sami Zayn to the impressive performances by Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose, there was a lot to like in this year’s Royal Rumble. The Intercontinental and Divas title matches over delivered in terms of expectations and after two years of poor Rumble booking, WWE finally managed to get one right.

However, one of the most fascinating parts of the show was how some stars were either used or not on the card that indicates their own struggles within the world of WWE. Some of the men in this list are slipping further down the card and could be on the chopping block very soon, whereas some have just lost their way and through WWE’s presentation, »

WWE Nxt Recap & Review – New #1 Contender for the Nxt Women’s Championship, Sami Zayn returns and more

14 January 2016 3:32 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After weeks of recaps and best-ofs, Nxt was back with a whole new set of shows. We’ve got a new number one contender for the Nxt Women’s championship, three new #1 contenders for the Nxt championship and Squash Matches. Plus some horrible promos. It’s this week’s Nxt Recap & Review…

Show kicks off with Corey Graves and Tom Phillips introducing us to the show and they promise we’ll find out who won the Nxt 2015 Awards. Are these really our commentating duo? Who is the lead announcer? Surely not Graves. I mean, I like Graves and Phillips – but as a commentating duo? I’m not sure about this. Getting a real Jonathan Coachman era commentary vibe going on. At least it’s not Byron Saxton, I suppose.

WWE And Tna: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Jan 10)

10 January 2016 12:43 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Hey everyone, look, Chris Jericho is back! How long will it be before he says something really lame and unfunny? “Rooty, tooty, booty.” Huh. I think that took about a minute.

Elsewhere in wrestling, SmackDown started on a new network and a got a new announcer, which somehow was so offensive to Jerry Lawler that he kind of turned heel. Tna had their first live show on their new network, which was a decent outing, minus Mike Bennet’s outfit.

Oh, and we’re doing that bit with R-Truth not knowing what the hell is going on again? Damn. Apparently no one in WWE has heard of the phrase “beating a dead horse.” Just give the man his own show on the network where he does that for a half hour every week Vince and get it out of your system! 35 Wtf Moments From Tna One Night Only: Live!

9 January 2016 11:13 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Looking to maintain some momentum from 2016’s first episode of Impact Wrestling, which saw EC3 cleanly regain his Tna World Heavyweight Title, Tna’s One Night Only: Live! is the company’s first live pay-per-view since October’s Bound for Glory.

Though not a particularly impactful or memorable show in terms of title defenses or storylines, it was nevertheless an entertaining three hours, in large part due to the usual bickering between Pope and Josh, the inevitable botches, a number of unexpected debuts, and a shocking amount of strange moments featuring J.B., Jeremy Borash.

Though the One Night Only name doesn’t really have much meaning anymore, especially with so many matches that could take place on any given episode of Impact, it was still solid enough, and showed how much wrestling you can actually cram into 3 hours if you cut all the garbage down.

16 Wtf Moments From SmackDown (7 Jan)

8 January 2016 12:21 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

These days, SmackDown has a far sillier feel than Raw. It’s sadly become something of a sandbox for WWE’s writers, with segments that would at least be treat seriously on Raw afforded none of the gravitas.

But was it just me, or did this week’s edition seem a lot more serious? Sure, we were forced to endure SmackDown’s usual dosage of “comedy” – providing a rather large percentage of our ‘Wtf Moments’ in the process – but the two top matches on the card seemed like legitimately important encounters.

First, Becky Lynch took on Charlotte in her long-awaited title shot for the Divas Championship, a bout followed by Kevin Owens’ chance at reclaiming his Intercontinental title from Dean Ambrose. Both matches were given a decent chunk of time, and actually reported on in a serious manner by the commentary team. This probably had something to do »

WWE SmackDown Spoilers For USA Network Debut

6 January 2016 12:20 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE held their SmackDown television tapings on Tuesday night in Laredo, TX.

This was a historic show, as it will mark the official move of SmackDown to the USA Network when it airs this Thursday night, January 7th. Here’s what went down…

SmackDown featured the debut of play by play announcer Mauro Ranallo in WWE. Ranallo has formerly announced in several combat sports, including most notably of late announcing for the Njpw television series on Axs. Ranallo was joined at the announce position by Jerry Lawler and Byron Saxton.

The show opened with John Cena coming out and challenging Alberto Del Rio to a rematch for the U.S. Championship. Del Rio responded and told Cena there would be no rematch, despite the controversial finish to their recent Raw match.

The first bout of the evening then featured Kalisto pinning Del Rio in a non-title match. According »
