Prince Keeps The Party Hot At Madison Square Garden 'Welcome 2 America' Show

30 December 2010 8:00 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

For all his unknowable aloofness, Prince's raison d'etre boils down to the three word refrain of one of his signature songs: "Let's go crazy." No matter what genre he is bending (rock, funk, R&B, jazz, hip-hop) or what his current lyrical fixations are, Prince's music always has been about letting go of inhibitions. On Wednesday night (December 29), the 52-year-old music legend spent a little over two hours on stage at New York City's Madison Square Garden strutting, dancing and shredding through the most manic moments of his massive back catalog, unburdened by anything other than the need to move some hips and shake some asses.

Prince's current "Welcome 2 America" tour (which only has one more date — a final Msg show in January) has featured an ever-evolving set list that hits many of the artist's signature 1999 and Purple Rain high notes with a healthy dose of more »

David O. Russell on 'Uncharted' Movie: Who's Nathan Fillion? (Video)

Filed under: Movie News, Video, Cinematical

We'd like to pretend that internet chatter actually means something when it comes to putting together a movie, but that's not always the case. Sure, producers and directors might scour the web looking for fan reaction when a particular actor or actress is rumored for a role, but more often than not studio bosses will do their own thing since they're the ones putting up the money for it and you're not. Which is why Nathan Fillion still hasn't ended up with a leading role in some big, nerdy Hollywood blockbuster. While he may have a large fanbase online and at fan conventions, fact is studios just don't seem prepared to hand the guy a big-budgeted potential franchise. At least not yet.

But that won't stop fans from trying. One guy recently stopped director David O. Russell following a screening of 'The Fighter' in La, »

Best Special/Collector's/Ultimate Edition Releases

16 December 2010 10:09 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

There are some things in life that you absolutely need to survive; food, shelter, and fire could be counted among them. There are also things that seem to mock the very idea of survivalist necessity, and Special Edition DVDs fall squarely into that category. As Christmas comes but once a year (and a few select, rare people even have birthdays), there’s only so much time that can really be devoted to even thinking about laying down the money to buy one of these things, but this is one of them. In alphabetical order, the following things should probably be considered if you’re buying something for anyone who is of the opinion that a movie is definitely not over once the final credits finish.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch Soundtrack

16 December 2010 5:07 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

With the plot surrounding an east German transgender rock musician in the 1980’s who undergoes a botched reassignment surgery leaving her with an ‘angry inch’ all so she can escape communist Germany with her new husband, the music can be nothing but campy, glam and amazing.  Written by Stephan Trask and performed by Hedwig herself, James Mitchell, the songs are explosive, exploring the ideas of ideology, love and destiny and sung with the raw power and emotion akin to the likes of David Bowie and Frank Zappa. In fact the soundtrack has been so popular that in 2003 a CD of covers was released named ‘Wig in a Box’ featuring artists such as Yoko Ono and Cyndi Lauper.

Diving into the music, what is most prominent and beautiful about it is the vividness of character and imagery that the songs draw on and create. For instance, ‘The Origin of Love’ is »

The 9 Best DVD and Blu-ray Releases of 2010

14 December 2010 4:00 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

If you thought every great film had already maxed out its possibilities on home video (you know, VHS, DVD, special editon DVD, anniversary edition DVD, Blu-ray, special edition Blu-ray… and so on), well, you’d be mistaken.

This year proved another great year for high profile DVD and Blu-ray releases, and what better time to run through the 2010′s highlights than during holiday shopping mania?

Some of the films on this list are Blu-ray debuts, some are fan favorites packaged with collectible gewgaws and one set is a whopper too big to ignore. They all have one undeniable thing in common: someone you know wants one of them wrapped with a bow.

9. Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years

Make someone’s day with this handsome collection of Eastwood’s 35-year relationship with Warner Bros. — from “Where Eagles Dare” through “Invictus.” Included in the set are the octogenarian’s “Dirty Harry” movies, »

Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Fund is supporting a new building construction in central Harlem that broke ground at the beginning of this year.

The shelter, called “True Colors Residence” (Tcr), will consist of modern studio apartments and community space for thirty 18-24-year-old LGBTs of New York City’s homeless population.

“Our primary goal is to provide a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment,” said Lauper, “that will empower our young residents to be the self-loving, happy, and successful individuals they were meant to be.”

14 December 2010 5:00 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Leighton Meester may not have the relationship her Gossip Girl alter ego enjoys with her onscreen love, Chuck, but she's okay with that. "It's wonderful to be in love," the actress, 24, tells the January issue of Allure. "And it's definitely wonderful to cuddle and have sex and get to experience life with somebody. But it's okay if you don't find him and you're 24. You can find it someday." Meester says she understands the kind of love her character, Blair Waldorf, shares with Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) on the show. Lady Gaga signs on for second year of Mac's 'Viva Glam' campaign

10 December 2010 2:22 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Mac cosmetics still really loves Lady Gaga. The cosmetics company signed the singer for a second year of its "Viva Glam" campaign -- only this time, she doesn't have to share the spotlight with Cyndi Lauper.

The brand releases its latest promotional image featuring Gaga, an ethereal portrait with a fistful of jewels. The photo was shot by British fashion photographer Nick Knight and styled by her own personal stylist Nicola Formichetti -- who also serves as creative director of Thierry Mugler.

Now, we love the image and appreciate the cause ("Glam" products benefit the M.A.C AIDS Fund), but we've got to say that we're still partial to the fun ad she shared with Lauper. Which do you prefer?

Cyndi Lauper Using Her Voice for Acceptance

10 December 2010 12:35 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

There are two Cyndi Laupers: One is the wisecracking, tough-talker people know from Celebrity Apprentice. The other is a sincere and soft-spoken mom who is committed to finding ways to ensure lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youths don't end up homeless. "The kids are our future," says Grammy-nominated Lauper, 57, whose True Colors Fund launched the Give a Damn Campaign in April in order to "call out to other straight people and show them the real things at stake." Lgbt kids account for 20 to 40 percent of the homeless youth population (many are runaways or were kicked out of their houses after coming out), but next summer, »

Lady Gaga is going Viva Glam for M.A.C. once again. The "Fame Monster" hitmaker returns as the famous face of the cosmetic giant's Viva Glam campaign, but this time by herself.

The 24-year-old star previously partnered with '80s icon Cyndi Lauper for the Viva Glam 2010 campaign, which benefits the Mac AIDS Fund.

Their joint campaign was said to be the most successful ever for the company's AIDS Fund.

But for the coming year, Gaga won't be sharing the spotlight with anyone. She will go front and center for the new 2011 ads.

Good news: Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton has given birth to a healthy baby boy with her hunky husband Chris Diamantopoulos. Bad news: Her new sitcom Love Bites still doesn’t have a time slot and just had the episode order cut from 13 to 9.

We all know that the Spurf™ is launching his own TV site come January, and he’s finally revealed the name: TVLine.com. Doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it? But best of luck to Michael, he’s really good at what he does.

Out Olympic skater Blake Skjellerup is competing in China right now, and taking the time to shop for knockoff Gucci for everyone on his Christmas list. But he does wonder if China can really become a superpower while remaining Communist.

I admit that I’m fairly neutral on the music of Nelly Furtado, but I’m loving this quote. »

Weekend Meme: The Diary of St. Kurt, Pee-wee Herman Explains Thanksgiving, and Cyndi Lauper Helps Mac Write a Big Check

First off, I’d like to thank snicks for keeping the Memes up while I was slaving away in retail over the Black Friday holiday. I’m completely exhausted, but I’m going to try to dazzle you!

Also, so many of you have emailed, Facebooked, Pm’d and tweeted me birthday wishes, I couldn’t possibly thank you all individually, but please know I do appreciate it.

On to the news, such that it is on a holiday weekend. I’m not really sure that I appreciate the tone over at TV Guide where they are wondering why Glee has become “the St. Kurt show.” Seriously, we all endured a full season of that Puck/Finn/Quinn/Terri baby drama that had nothing to do with the glee club, and you want to whine about three Kurt episodes that are literally “ripped from the headlines?”

Tour News

Hey Everyone! So this past week has been all about one artist for me, and for any of you who have been frequenting the site, it will be no surprise who I'm talking about.

I have been having an ongoing love affair with a certain Swede ever since I first heard her amazing dance track "With Every Heartbeat" back in 2006. Since the success of her self-titled album in 2005, Robyn has been garnering International fandom and has created a comeback career many former 90's artists could only dream of (Smash Mouth, Aqua, Chumbawumba, and the list goes on and on).

This past year Robyn has released three new albums in a project entitled Body Talk with the third being released on November 22nd (I'm already loving the track "Stars 4-Ever"). Each album has been touched by some of the greatest producers of the moment including Max Martin, Diplo, Röyksopp and Kleerup. »

The Goonies 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray Review

21 November 2010 12:50 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When I was a kid, I wanted to belong to a group like The Goonies.  Like most creative types, I was an outsider, so the film and characters spoke to me.  Smartly, there was one of every type to make all sorts of misfits feel at home.  Does it stand the test of time?  Can you go home again?  Find out after the jump:

The Goonies follows a group of kids on a great adventure, but it springs from something that rings true in today’s world (and global economy).  Mikey and Brand, two brothers, are going to have to say goodbye to their home in Astoria as they’re about to be foreclosed on so a country club can be built.  Mikey’s gang of friends assembles to spend some quality time with them: Mouth, the prankster, Data the inventor and Chunk, the resident fatass (long before Cartman).  While »
