Anna Laughlin played the part of Dorothy in the 1902 Broadway musical production of "The Wizard of Oz." The casting of a teenager in the role in the highly popular production partly inspired the casting of Judy Garland in the role when the 1939 film version was produced.
Child was Lucy Monroe - radio singer.
The first human to inhabit the iconic role of Dorothy Gale committed suicide by gas poisoning in her apartment at 310 West End Avenue in New York. She left a three-page note saying her daughter had "forsaken" her.
