19 hours ago | AsianMoviePulse | See recent AsianMoviePulse news »

The Great Wall of China has long been the object of many a man’s admiration. However, if you think you know the reason behind this ancient wonder’s creation, then you ought to prepare for your mind to be blown.

Behind “The Great Wall

This year, a movie of epic proportions has started production, and it boasts not only of an ambitious concept but also a star-studded cast comprising of some of the most prominent figures from both Hollywood and the Chinese cinema.

Revolving around the majestic Great Wall, the film mashes elements from science fiction and history as it sets up its characters in 15th century China. Where’s the sci-fi in that, you ask? Well, apparently, the “real” reason the Wall was erected is a large-scale, unrecorded invasion of giant mythical creatures—aliens, perhaps? In this grievous battle against the supernatural, humankind opted to fortify its defenses »

13 April 2015 3:01 AM, PDT | AsianMoviePulse | See recent AsianMoviePulse news »

I want to name a few of my favorite end fight scenes and please feel free to comment below, your favorite fight scenes and maybe they will be added to the future features. I only add fight scenes which i can find the clips for on youtube, so some classics might not be added to the lists.

Hong Kong’s Oscar Winner Ruby Yang Comes Home, Finds Her ‘Voice’

23 March 2015 3:59 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When Ruby Yang was nominated in the best newcomer section of the Hong Kong Directors’ Guild last month, she giggled. After all, she won an Academy Award in 2007 for her documentary short “The Blood of Yingzhou District,” about a Chinese orphan who contracts HIV from his parents, and has two more Oscar nominations in the same category. When she won the Hkdg award last week, she must have laughed out loud.

Yet, strangely, Yang is starting over.

After several years in the U.S. working as film editor and filmmaker, and then most of the past decade living in Beijing, she has now returned to her native Hong Kong and is putting down roots all over again.

She is teaching at Hong Kong University’s journalism and media studies department and also working as a producer. This week she will attend Haf as producer of “The Last Stitch,” a project »

Film Review: ‘Lost and Love’

12 March 2015 10:43 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

China’s widespread child-abduction problem is the compelling starting point for “Lost and Love,” a road movie that offers lyrical observations of the country’s rural and grassroots landscape. Mindfully helmed and written by Peng Sanyuan, the film features Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau and promising mainland thesp Jing Boran as an engagingly simpatico duo in search of their missing loved ones. Although it soft-pedals the dire situation of human trafficking in China, the result provides poignant insight into the victims’ psychological scars. Neither a typical mainstream work nor edgy festival fare, the pic would have been destined for limited home formats if not for Lau’s fame, which has opened some doors into select overseas markets.

Peng claims her decision to make this film (supposedly based on a true story) took root in 2010, the year that saw the genesis of online civilian communities fighting child abduction. Compared with Peter Chan’s recent “Dearest, »

Matt Damon And Andy Lau Will Save The World In Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall

12 March 2015 5:41 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Chinese blockbuster director Zhang Yimou is no stranger to casting Hollywood A-listers in his projects since wooing Christian Bale for his 2011 epic The Flowers of War. While that film made huge bank in China, it failed to make the desired impact overseas. Zhang is hoping that his latest opus, The Great Wall, will do better internationally, packing it with stars from home and abroad.Matt Damon and Andy Lau head an all-star cast that also includes Willem Dafoe and Games of Thrones scene-stealer Pedro Pascal, as well as Chinese star performers Zhang Hanyu (The Taking of Tiger Mountain), Eddie Peng (Unbeatable, Rise of the Legend), Jing Tian (Special ID, From Vegas To Macau), boy band idol Lu Han and a host of others, including Lin Gengxin,...

Matt Damon Signed On For Epic Chinese Fantasy!

12 March 2015 2:48 AM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

Matt Damon has joined the cast of The Great Wall, a Chinese-set adventure with Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau and Pedro Pascal already on board. The film has been lingering in development limbo for a little while, but seems to be gaining some traction now. Zhang Yimou is directing, so expect it to look gorgeous. The story sees a group of 15th century soldiers searching for gunpowder and stumbling across the titular wall mid-build. They get more than they bargained for though, when they learn that it's not to keep just invaders out, but mythical creatures too. While I would normally be skeptical about something that sounds like it could spiral into a CGI mess, the pedigree attached to this bodes very well. Yimou knows how to do large-scale, beautiful looking movies, and Damon has a knack for picking great roles, so for now, colour us excited for The Great Wall. »

Damon & Dafoe Join Full Cast For Zhang Yimou’s ‘The Great Wall’

11 March 2015 10:34 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

China is certainly where the money is these days. With an ever expanding box-office take each year, and more and more foreign films being allowed a release, it’s no wonder that Hollywood and the big studios want a piece of the pie. Unfortunately this has lead to a lot of needless pandering, such as Chinese exclusive scenes in Iron Man 3 and lots of behind kissing in Transformers: Age Of Extinction. Legendary, the studio behind the likes of Pacific Rim and Godzilla, look to be taking a more organic approach with The Great Wall, an American/Chinese co-production with Universal Pictures, China Film Co. Ltd., and Le Vision Pictures.

The film, directed by the incredible Zhang Yimou, sees humanity making a last stand on the titular wonder of the world against mythical monsters in 15th Century China. Yimou is most famous for his wuxia films, Hero and House Of Flying Daggers. »

Matt Damon Scales The Great Wall

11 March 2015 5:49 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

If you cast your mind back to last September, you might recall that Matt Damon was considering starring in China-set epic The Great Wall. The film, which has had some development difficulties, has now caught a break as Damon is on board alongside Willem Dafoe, Pedro Pascal, Andy Lau, Jing Tian, Zhang Hanyu, Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Lin Gengxin, Zheng Kai, Chen Xuedong, Huang Xuan and Wang Junkai. Zhang Yimou is directing this one, which finds soldiers in 15th century China searching for gunpowder and discovering much more. But though they initially think that the wall, still under construction, is the most amazing thing they’ll encounter, that’s only the start of it – as the structure is being put in place not to just keep out invaders, but also mystical creatures. Legendary boss Thomas Tull conceived the initial idea as part of a plan to push into global co-productions with his Legendary East arm. »
