Chris Miller and Phil Lord Talk 22 Jump Street, How Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum Weren’t Contracted for the Sequel, Why Brie Larson Isn’t in the Film, and More

5 July 2014 8:49 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

What's frustrating about the movie world nowadays is it feels like we are always looking forward rather than enjoying the moment.  We spend years anticipating a movie and the moment it gets released it's on to the next thing.  It's frustrating.  Yet I'm as guilty as anyone; I do the same thing.  Which is why, during this holiday weekend, I want to take a second to talk about 22 Jump Street.  While many of you have seen Chris Miller and Phil Lord's awesome sequel, a bunch of you have heard the buzz but haven't found the time to go.  Trust me, if you want to laugh and have a good time, see this film, especially this weekend when the theater is crowded.  I normally hate crowded theaters but with comedies I'll admit it's a lot more fun to laugh with strangers than on your own.  For more on the film, »

John Cena To Miss WWE House Shows To Film Movies

3 July 2014 11:42 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

John Cena is the busiest man in World Wrestling Entertainment. The new WWE Champion is the most featured performer on WWE programming every week, spends his free time granting wishes with kids for Make-a-Wish and he makes time to film scenes for Total Divas with his girlfriend Nikki Bella too. He’s even working on a movie right now and has another one in the works.

The first bit of Cena news comes from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who reports that as soon as Daniel Bryan became injured it was Cena that WWE pegged as the new WWE Champion. There were rumors last week that it might be Randy Orton and even Kane got some late attention as the possible winner, but in the end WWE went with the obvious choice by putting the gold on Cena for his 15th reign as a WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Marisa Tomei and Daniel Radcliffe Join Judd Apatow's ‘Trainwreck’

1 July 2014 4:22 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Daniel Radcliffe and Marisa Tomei have quietly joined the cast of Judd Apatow's next comedy “Trainwreck,” as evidenced by photos snapped on the streets of New York of the two actors hard at work filming a scene with some furry co-stars. The comedy stars Amy Schumer, Brie Larson, Bill Hader, Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller, among others. There's no word on what characters Radcliffe and Tomei will play, though the set pics seem to suggest they're romantically involved somehow, and he may be a professional dog walker. Daniel Radcliffe Is Smoking and Walking Many Dogs—See the Pic (and Find Out Why)!

1 July 2014 1:36 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Does Daniel Radcliffe have a new side career as a big city dog walker? Or did he get some new (or a dozen) pets? The British thesp, who most recently was on Broadway in The Cripple of Inishmaan, was spotted walking eight dogs of varying sizes and breeds in New York City's Bryant Park, their leashes clipped around his special dog-walking belt so his hand was free to take a drag on a cigarette. But there was, of course, a method to this madness. Radcliffe was shooting a scene for Judd Apatow's latest directorial effort, Trainwreck. The comedy was written by Amy Schumer and also stars Tilda SwintonBrie LarsonBill Hader and Marisa »

Daniel Radcliffe spotted on the set of Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck

1 July 2014 12:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The 40-Year Old Virgin and This Is 40 director Judd Apatow is currently filming his highly secretive new comedy, Trainwreck in New York City. We don’t know much about the film outside of its star-studded cast, but have been speculating that former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will have a cameo. New photos from the film’s Bryant Park set have hit the web, all but confirming Radcliffe’s involvement.

As you can see, Radcliffe is walking a dozen dogs and hanging out with Apatow and Marisa Tomei. Apatow, of course, refused to admit anything on Twitter, and instead insisted that Radcliffe was just walking his dogs:

Judd Apatow Cheekily Brushes Off Daniel Radcliffe 'Trainwreck' Rumors

1 July 2014 9:25 AM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Judd Apatow's been busy filming his new comedy "Trainwreck" in New York, and while most of the cast's identities are common knowledge, some intrepid onlookers snapped a shot of Daniel Radcliffe on the set that got the Internet wondering. Apparently, Radcliffe was caught on film walking a group of dogs around Bryant Park, and other lookie loos spotted him filming a scene along with Marisa Tomei ("Crazy, Stupid, Love").  Apatow's response to the rumors on Twitter (you can see it below) was to essentially wink slyly and move right along.  Radcliffe's role is likely a cameo (he's busy on Broadway starring in "The Cripple of Inishmaan") but it's still fun to see the way @JuddApatow engages with his fans. (Check out the director and his wife Leslie Mann's selfie squeezed into a nude Lena Dunham t-shirt.) "Trainwreck" stars Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Mike Birbiglia and Vanessa Bayer, »

Animal magic: Daniel Radcliffe takes ambitious approach to dog-walking

Daniel Radcliffe was surrounded by many a different pooch during rumoured filming for Judd Apatow's new comedy Trainwreck in New York yesterday (June 30).

Radcliffe, wearing a grey t-shirt and black jeans, was pictured clutching the leads of various breeds of dogs in Madison Square Garden.

The 24-year-old actor was also seen posing with co-star Marissa Tomei, who wore a pair of Raoul Duke-style aviator glasses and a blue jumpsuit, and the pair tried to control a whole load of yapping poodles as they sat on gravel.

Producer and director Apatow later slipped into a photo with the pair, despite denying on Twitter that Radcliffe was involved in the movie.

Right now director Judd Apatow is busy in New York filming his latest comedy Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Mike Birbiglia, Vanessa Bayer and many more. But two more names will pop up in the film that we weren't expecting. On Twitter yesterday, Apatow addressed a question from a fansite about whether or not Harry Potter franchise star Daniel Radcliffe was in the film after being spotted walking a bunch of dogs on the set in NYC. And while Apatow played coy online, other onlookers with cameras saw Radcliffe filming a scene along with Crazy Stupid Love star Marisa Tomei. More below! Audiences showed up in droves for 21 Jump Street two years ago, loving not only the adventures of Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube, but also grooving with the supporting cast. The production was smart enough to recruit soon-to-be stars like Brie Larson, ringers like Rob Riggle, utility men like Dave Franco, and goofballs like DeRay Davis, Chris Parnell and Ellie Kemper. Switching the venue for the sequel meant a whole new supporting cast, a whole new bunch of scene stealers. In 22 Jump Street, Hill and Tatum can't carry the load themselves. Fortunately, the cast is filled with several merry-makers ready to lift a scene away. Here's a look at five rising talents who completely stole some of the choice moments from 22 Jump Street. It.s not like Shailene Woodley dislikes or is jealous of Jennifer Lawrence. In fact Woodley admires her the most.

"As women, we are constantly told that we need to compare ourselves to a girl in school, to our co-workers, to the images in a magazine," the 22-year-old beauty muses in the latest issue of New York magazine, which she covers with Bff Brie Larson. "How is the world going to advance if we're always comparing ourselves to others? I admire Jennifer Lawrence, but she's everyone's favourite person to compare me to."

"Is it because we both have short hair and a vagina?" she continued. "I see us as separate individuals. And that's important. As women, our insecurities are based on all these comparisons. And that creates distress."

Shailene Woodley and Brie Larson's bond is your new friendship crush

Shailene Woodley once considered quitting the acting business. And then Brie Larson came along.

The two actresses worked together on The Spectacular Now, a coming-of-age high school-set film. The experience was transformative for Woodley: “That movie made me want to be creative again, and Brie was very much a part of that time,” the actress recently told New York magazine. Cue awws.

Since Spectacular, Woodley and Larson have apparently remained close friends, bonding over their desire to change the movie industry in. For Woodley, that means, in part, being honest about her quirks — by now, we all know about her »

Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris Exit DreamWorks’ ‘The Good Luck Of Right Now’

28 May 2014 7:40 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris have exited the DreamWorks film The Good Luck Of Right Now. The Mike White-scripted adaptation of the novel by Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick was moving into the casting stage, and I’ve heard creative disagreements between the directors and the film company over casting the ensemble prompted the exit yesterday. This is not good luck for DreamWorks, which is in flux as Stacey Snider prepares to exit for a job at Fox when her contract expires at year’s end. Landing Dayton & Faris was a coup, because they are so choosy about what projects they make. As evidenced by their debut Little Miss Sunshine, Dayton and Faris are very good at subject matter that mixes family dysfunction with humor; that cuts to the core of Quick’s book about four grieving people who, through their pain, form a »

Cannes: Market Looks Healthy for the Right Titles

19 May 2014 11:54 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Cannes 2014 market will go down as one of the most contradictory in years.

Its lack of fully-packaged star-driven quality projects was a major talking point.

The larger question it raises is whether, when it comes to star vehicles at least, this year’s market pointed to a sales cycle glitch – with distributors buying again once inventories need filling – or marked a milestone in more fundamental changes to the ways the high-end international industry will have to do business.

Yet a plethora of movies, many more modestly-budgeted, sold to the U.S., making it probably the best performing market of 2014 Cannes.

Through the first half Cannes, a few big titles sizzled. Paramount shelled out $20 million for North America and China on Denis Villeneuve’s Amy Adams-starrer “Story of Your Life,” sold by FilmNation; Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions then closed the bulk of international.
