Michael McKean has a New Yorker's stamina - and sense of humor. A day after his horrific encounter with a car that ran out of control onto the sidewalk and slammed him, bleeding, into a Upper West Side Manhattan street, the actor, 64, was cracking wise with the producer of his Broadway show. "We always tell each other to break a leg in this business. I never thought it would happen to me this way!" McKean joked from his hospital bed to his The Best Man producer Jeffrey Richards, reports the New York Post. McKean sustained a broken leg and facial »

Michael McKean was hit by a car and suffered a broken leg on Tuesday, May 22, causing him to miss his first performance ever. He's doing better but is officially out of the Broadway play "The Best Man" that he's been performing in.

According to Boston.com, Producer Jeffrey Richards said that McKean's role will be played by James Lecesne from now on. "I understand from his team that he has never missed a performance in his career," Richards said in a press release. "So this is the kind of first we are reluctant to announce."

The play by Gore Vidal had been nominated for a Tony Award for best revival and the cast includes James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, Candice Bergen, Angela Lansbury, and Eric McCormack. Lecesne had previously been playing a small role in the show and this is his Broadway debut. Get well soon, Michael. »

'House' series finale: A look back at the best episodes

20 May 2012 2:12 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"House," the medical drama that has also been a character study of a misanthropic genius doctor played wonderfully by Hugh Laurie, is coming to a close Monday, May 21 after eight seasons. Zap2it would like to take a look back at the strongest episodes of the series.

It was hard to narrow down, indeed. The show has always been fairly strong, with individual episodes that we'd put right up there with the best of any show. But here are the ones that made the cut.

"Three Stories," S1, E21

The first season of "House" was fine - but the show really took off with "Three Stories." House gives a lecture to a class of medical students, recounting three different leg injuries. Carmen Electra gives a rather delightful guest-starring turn and the viewers finally find out why Dr. House has his limp.

"No Reason" - S2, E24

Nick Jonas-led 'How to Succeed…' will go out of business on Broadway on May 20

9 May 2012 8:20 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Want to know how to succeed in musical theater? Look no further than the walloping success of the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which will end its fruitful run on Sunday, May 20 after 30 previews, 473 regular performances and — count ‘em — three headlining young sensations.

Although closing is a bittersweet announcement for any production, the well-received revival of H2$ recouped its initial $9 million investment in December, meaning that everything else — including the $4 million Darren Criss brought in during his three-week run in January, as well as the moderate success of current star Nick Jonas — is just gravy (after production costs, »

Nick Jonas' Broadway Play To Close

9 May 2012 5:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nick Jonas' stint on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying has been cut short after producers announced the stage show is to close early following sluggish box office sales.

The pop star took on the lead role in January and had been contracted to stay in the production until at least July, but producers have now announced the show's final performance will be on 20 May.

Ticket sales have taken a noticeable hit recently, with last week's (ends06May12) earnings totalling just $368,000 (£230,000) out of a possible $1.3 million (£800,000), according to the Press Association.

Producer Michael McCabe says in a statement, "My producing partners and I are extremely grateful to the unbelievably talented company of actors and skillful crew that have given vibrant life to this show for over 500 performances."

The show debuted last year with Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role and was nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning a best actor trophy for John Larroquette. »

Tony Awards nominations snubs: Matthew Broderick, Bernadette Peters, 'Streetcar Named Desire'

1 May 2012 7:34 AM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

With 37 productions in contention for this year's Tony Awards, there were plenty of surprises in Tuesday's nominations announcement. (See full list of nominations here.) Among the famous folk left off the list of contenders were a pair of two-time Tony winners: Matthew Broderick ("Nice Work If You Can Get It") and Bernadette Peters ("Follies"). Also snubbed was Emmy and Tony champ Tyne Daly for her role as opera diva Maria Callas in the nominated revival of "Master Class." And Emmy winners John Larroquette and Eric McCormack were edged out of the lead actor race by their co-star in "The Best Man" James Earl Jones.  The new tuner "Leap of Faith" earned a Best Musical bid but its leading man, Raul Esparza, who has contended in all four acting categories, was denied a chance to finally win a Tony.  "The Mountaintop" may have won the Olivier for Best Play two years ago, »

Broadway's biggest night - the 66th annual Tony Awards - may be 40 days away, but the celebrating has already kicked in, especially for a modest new musical called Once, a love story set in Ireland that scored the most nominations of any show this year: 11, including best musical. Not celebrating: the much-maligned Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which, despite an expenditure of $70 million, scads of publicity and the music of U2's Bono and the Edge, landed with only two nominations, for costume and scenic design. 32 Things We Learned From ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Commentary

26 April 2012 10:00 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The Commentary Commentary you are about to read is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths. Okay, not really, but there’s certainly a fair amount of slashing and running and screaming in the woods. This week we’re covering The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and everything director Tobe Hooper had to say about the production along with director of photography Daniel Pearl and Leatherface himself, Gunnar Hansen. We chose The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, because Total Recall last week left us for something a little more happy-go-lucky, something that isn’t riddled with copious amounts of blood and body parts being ripped off. Shockingly, there’s a ton more of that stuff in the Arnold movie than here, but it’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that makes you want to cleanse yourself after. The movie, for the lack of shown blood it has, does »

The Drama League Awards may not be quite as prestigious as the Tonys, but they have a few years on them. Established in 1922 and made official in 1935 (the Tonys began in '47), the awards honor the best in theater both on and off Broadway. The League announced their nominations today, and the list includes many of the names we expect to be seeing from the Tonys when they announced their nominations next Tuesday. Raven-Symone (currently starring in "Sister Act" on Broadway), Megan Hilty and Justin Long announced the nominees for the awards' five categories -- Distinguished Production of a Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award, for which more than 50 actors -- male and female -- were nominated. 'Gore Vidal's The Best Man' brings out the best of Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones on Broadway

10 April 2012 2:58 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Taking the arch writing of Gore Vidal and giving those words to James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Candice Bergen and Eric McCormack, is nothing short of brilliant.

In the revival of "Gore Vidal's The Best Man," the Schoenfeld Theatre is decked out in red, white and blue bunting as the audience watches the behind-the-scenes maneuvering at a 1960 presidential convention in a Philadelphia hotel.

Though it is not said which party this is -- or if it is, it is certainly not stressed -- it does not matter. What matters is politics.

The play, which was also a 1964 movie, revolves around what could be a brokered convention. Former Secretary of State William Russell (Larroquette, a Tony winner last season for "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," TV's "Night Court") is running against Sen. Joseph Cantwell (McCormack, TV's "Will & Grace"). Russell is an intellectual who quotes Bertrand Russell, »

McCormack Wants To Revive Frost/Nixon With Larroquette

9 April 2012 12:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Former Will & Grace star Eric McCormack is lining up his current Broadway co-star John Larroquette for another theatre project as he is desperate to act in Frost/Nixon opposite the Hollywood veteran.

McCormack is currently starring alongside Larroquette in a Broadway production of political drama The Best Man with James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury.

However, the actor is desperate to revive Peter Morgan's play Frost/Nixon, which became an Oscar-nominated 2008 movie starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella, and he wants Larroquette to play former U.S. President Richard Nixon to his interviewer David Frost.

McCormack reveals he thought of the idea while on stage with Larroquette and has already approached him about the collaboration.

He tells Vulture.com, "I actually had... (a) crazy thing happen last night: I was sitting onstage deep in character opposite John and all of a sudden thought, 'We should do Frost/Nixon together!' Wouldn't Larroquette be a great Nixon? We have so much fun in that scene (in The Best Man), just sitting on couches talking to each other. I mentioned it to him backstage and he said, 'Jesus, that's a great idea!' I love that kind of thing." »

Eric McCormack on The Best Man, Channeling Don Draper, and Looking 35 Forever

3 April 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

In Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, recently opened on Broadway, Eric McCormack plays Senator Joe Cantwell, the slick young charmer to John Larroquette’s senior intellectual in a battle for the Democratic nomination during a sixties presidential campaign. In a cast full of thespian giants, the Will & Grace alum might at first seem like surprise casting, but McCormack is a stage vet in his own right: He spent a decade in theater before network television came calling. Most recently, he sang and danced as Harold Hill in 2001 Broadway revival of The Music Man. He spoke to Vulture about holding his own with heavyweights like James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury, and the joys of looking perpetually 35.I hear you’ve taken to calling yourself the ingenue of the cast.[Laughs.] Well, it’s kind of a nice feeling to look around and, based on everyone else, think that I might »

Theater Review: The Best Man Is Necessary

2 April 2012 7:00 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

“Jeez, I hate an open convention,” laments a slippery senator (Dakin Matthews) in Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, his inexhaustible 1960 dramatization of basic American politics. “You can’t ever tell what’s going to happen!” Newt Gingrich and his fellow moon-dreamers would surely disagree, of course, but most of us common folk (and all of the powerful) enjoy a modicum of predictability in our lives and in our leaders. Perhaps in our political melodramas, too: The Best Man, now enjoying its second star-bedazzled revival in twelve years — this time with John Larroquette, Candice Bergen, James Earl Jones, Eric McCormack, and Angela Lansbury — is hardly a nail-biter, and I don’t mean that as criticism. Hearing a parable a second, third, or thousandth time doesn’t diminish its impact a jot. Quite the contrary. We’ve seen these characters and followed these plot lines many times before; we see them, »
