Chuck Barris, the quirky host of the controversial and absurd Seventies series The Gong Show and creator of hit game shows like The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game, died Tuesday. He was 87.

Barris died of natural causes at his home in Palisades, New York, his longtime publicist told The Associated Press.

ABC has ordered a reboot of The Gong Show TV series, from Will Arnett, who is executive producing for his Electric Avenue Productions.Created and produced by Chuck Barris, the original version of The Gong Show premiered on NBC in 1976 and ran through 1978. Update: Looks like no one's going to be auto-tuning the Academy Awards this year, as Jimmy Fallon has officially turned down the invitation to host.

"It's an honor to be asked by the academy, but it's not my year," Fallon told Matt Lauer on "Today."

It takes style, panache, a way with the crowd, and just enough edge to be funny but not upset the 97-year-olds in AMPAS, all of which Jimmy Fallon possesses. That explains why The Los Angeles Times reports they're in negotiations with the late night comedian to host February's 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony.

Longtime SNL and "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" producer Lorne Michaels would take the reins of the broadcast. Negotiations are not set in stone, thanks to objections being generated by ABC, who are uncomfortable with NBC talent fronting their big show.

Cameron Diaz has agreed to marry an unknown comic book fan. The "What Happens in Vegas" actress was given the unexpected proposal when answering questions from fans at the Comic-Con 2009 convention in San Diego, California.

The unidentified man shouted out to the Hollywood actress: "Will you marry me?"

She answered: "Yes! Where are you? Why not?"
