First Sketch Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Up For Auction

25 April 2012 4:15 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Who wouldn't want to get their hands on something as incredible as the first sketch of the Ninja Turtles? Well, maybe not Michael Bay because they don't look alien enough. Just think, this Kevin Eastman doodle, that was inked by Peter Laird has spawned a gabillion dollar franchise. Comic books, video games, television shows and movies, all derived from some late night goofing around, just plain remarkable. If you're interested Heritage Auctions is hosting the event and the current bid price is at a measly $6,500. It all started with this drawing.... Bust open your piggy banks: The first sketch of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is up for auction

Some would say that childhood memories are priceless. Others would say they’re worth $6,500.

That’s how much the sketch to your left is worth, according to the most recent bid. Yes, it’s true: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman is auctioning off the first sketch of the reptiles who became Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

If you’re a true Turtlehead, you may recognize the image from early press coverage of the series and a few comics. Eastman and his partner, Peter Laird, drew and inked the pic in November 1983. Soon afterwards, they came up with a »

Check Out The Original Sketch Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…Or Is It?!?!? (It Is)

25 April 2012 9:48 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

What is reportedly the first sketch of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by one of their co-creators Kevin Eastman is currently up for auction, if you happen to have a minimum of $6,000 available your turtle-related artwork budget. Eastman reportedly drew it in 1983 “to make fellow creator Peter Laird laugh,” I’m assuming at their little gross tails. While we should all treat this drawing with the reverence normally reserved for the skeletons of saints (Except for those tails! Lol!), knowing what Michael Bay is about to do to them, we have to wonder if there wasn’t some even more ancient rough draft of the gang, if you go back far enough… Dan told me he found an even earlier Tmnt sketch in his Ms Paint folder. Who am I to argue with archeology? Shello, indeed! (The Mary Sue) »

Michael Bay is currently working on a reboot of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise. Meanwhile, "Tmnt" creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are auctioning off the very first drawing of the characters. The current bid is at $5,500. Check out the drawing and story of it below. Eastman explained: "Late in November 1983, Peter Laird and I were sharing a studio (our living room) in Dover, New Hampshire. One work night, in an effort to make Peter laugh, I drew a sketch of this character I called a 'Ninja Turtle' and threw it onto Peter's desk. He did laugh, and did a version of his own . to which I needed to take it one step further, and did a pencil sketch of four different Turtles, each holding a different weapon . and gave it to Peter, who wanted to ink it in . and when he did, he added 'Teenage Mutant' to the »

Thoughts on... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

31 March 2012 8:46 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 1990.

Directed by Steve Barron.

Starring Josh Pais, Michelan Sisti, Robbie Rist, Leif Tilden, Corey Feldman, David Forman, Brian Tochi, Kevin Clash, Judith Hoag, David McCharen and Elias Koteas.

Synopsis:

Four teenage mutant ninja turtles must face a villainous foe in order to protect their master and save New York City.

Before beginning this review of the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I must first acknowledge my strong sense of nostalgia for the movie. This was one of a select few films I owned on VHS when I was a much younger boy, and would often delight in drawing the curtains on a sunny day to sit in awe of the four heroes in a half shell. Of course, what would follow would be heroic (in my mind at least) ninja kicks leaping from the sofa, and which would inevitably end with me in pain of some form. »

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Heroes Of The Week

29 March 2012 7:36 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

By Joel Hanek

When the evil Michael Bay attacks, these Turtle boys don’t cut him slack.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Heroes are Splash Page's Heroes of the Week because they're about to take on their biggest foe yet: the reboot. Ever since Michael Bay announced his involvement with the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reimagining "Ninja Turtles" and declared that the heroes in a half-shell would have a new alien origin, the internet has been incensed. Everyone from the original movie voice actors to one of the co-creators of the characters has spoken out against the alleged abomination spawned by Bay. Being a child of the '80s and having thrown a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed party (in my childhood and recently), I too have my serious reservations about “Ninja Turtles.”

But first, a few words in defense of Michael Bay. Please, sir and/or madam, put down »

'Ninja Turtles' Director Promises To Keep 'Essence Of Each Character'

27 March 2012 11:20 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

It's been a hard week for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans. First, we learned that the Turtles would have an "alien origin" from producer Michael Bay. Then the "Teenage Mutant" part got bashed with a pair of nunchucks.

With those gone, what else is there to take away from passionate fans? Is Michelangelo still going to be a party dude?

Jonathan Liebesman, the director of the upcoming reboot and the focus of a lot of fan wrath, is certainly aware of the fan reaction, and when we spoke with him while promoting his new film "Wrath of the Titans," he started off by expressing his gratitude for the passionate fans. "Firstly, as a filmmaker, it's awesome to have such an impassioned fan base that this is so important to, because that's your audience," he said.

Liebesman wants to assure you that the characters we know will remain. More specifically, he »

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' reboot gets new title: 'Just give them a chance' pleads Michael Bay

27 March 2012 9:40 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Well, that settles that. Producer Michael Bay took to his blog again to address the fans who are criticizing his upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Bay’s decision to alter the Turtles’ origin story had sparked a long string of remarks from fans, Bay and even series co-creator Peter Laird — in his most recent missive, under the headline “Ninja Turtles’ Title,” Bay wrote:

Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. »

Michael Bay Confirms Tmnt Will Be Titled Ninja Turtles

27 March 2012 7:37 AM, PDT | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wheel continues to spin round and round. If you’re not entirely in the loop, wheel it all started with fans being infuriated over Michael Bay’s decision to change the mutant species in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into Aliens, which was followed by Bay telling those fans to chill. Soon after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird came out in full support of the species change. And finally director Jonathan Liebesman to add some positive vibes for the movie.

Okay so some of that may have been just lip service, but you can add yesterday’s news about a title change into the mix. Fans didn’t agree to that, and now Michael Bay has come out to address the issue about the movie’s title change:

“Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters »

Michael Bay Confirms 'Ninja Turtles' Reboot Title

27 March 2012 7:25 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Consider it official: the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot is officially ditching the "Teenage Mutant" part.

Michael Bay has issued a new statement regarding his planned update on the heroes in a half-shell, confirming that the title for the reboot is indeed "Ninja Turtles" as was previously reported. Despite ditching "Teenage Mutant" from the title, however, Bay insists that the characters will remain faithful to the heroes fans remember so fondly.

"Paramount marketing changed the name," Bay wrote on his website to explain the title change. "They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie."

"This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles," the "Transformers" director continued. "They care Very Much about making this film for the fans. »

Michael Bay explains 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' title change

Michael Bay has explained why his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie reboot has had its title changed to Ninja Turtles. The Transformers director, who will produce the franchise revival with Wrath of the Titans's Jonathan Liebesman behind the camera, took to his Shoot for the Edit forums to quell fan uproar over the changes to Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman's comic book characters. "Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple," Bay wrote. "The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie." Ninja Turtles, written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, will re-imagine the origins of the four half-shelled heroes to make them aliens. "This (more) »

Who could have predicted that a Michael Bay-produced re-imagining of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" would cause such a stir? While fans were largely onboard for a reboot, the tide turned when Bay recently announced that he would give our half-shell heroes an alien origin story.

Fan reaction to the news has been negative, to say the least. So much so that Bay has already twice taken to his Shoot for the Edit message board to tell fans that the reboot will not disappoint. On Tuesday (March 27), Bay hit the boards again, promising that the new movie will include "everything you remember" from the original; he also explained why the film's name is "Ninja Turtles, »

Michael Bay-Produced Tmnt Film Possibly Titled ‘Ninja Turtles,’ With Grown-Up Characters

26 March 2012 2:08 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

After stating that the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will have the turtles from an alien race, it seems that mega-producer Michael Bay doesn’t mind tainting several people’s childhood memories. BleedingCool have just reported new rumors about the Tmnt reboot that I’m sure will start another uproar.

The film, directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Battle L.A.), could be taking the very simple title of Ninja Turtles. Why you ask? It’s because there could be a chance that the turtles won’t even be teenagers in the film. One of the only reasons I can think for the change, is so they can appeal to the older generation who grew up watching the series many years ago.

Here’s another explanation for the change, via Bleeding Cool:

We haven’t been able to get a definite statement as to why this title change is occurring, »

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Gets New Title

26 March 2012 12:38 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

If you hold a special place in your heart for the pizza-munching sewer-dwellers known as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, chances are you've heard Michael Bay is producing a reboot wherein the high-kicking, wise-cracking team will no longer be mutants transformed by some strange and secret green ooze, but aliens. (Yes, aliens.) You may also be aware that Bay doesn't care what you think about it, because he insists his team is building, "a richer world," for the Turtles that is supported by co-creator Peter Laird. I'm sorry to admit, I'm here to deliver the latest turn of the blade from Bay's Platinum Dunes to Tmnt fans. Bleeding Cool has uncovered that the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will be dropping "teenage" and "mutant" from the title, being called simply Ninja Turtles. While it's apparent Bay's take makes the word "mutant" untenable, a secretive source explains the name change »

Tmnt Could Be Simply Known as Ninja Turtles

26 March 2012 11:44 AM, PDT | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Forget all everything you know about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I can already imagine that being a log line in a trailer, because it seems that’s what Michael Bay wants us to do. forget. It all started with the fact that Bay would change the species of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was followed by fan outrage to which Bay responded by telling people to the chill. Soon the support of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman came in, and finally director Jonathan Liebesman put his two cents in. For some this year may be the end of the world for some Tmnt fans.

So in attempts to resolve some of the hostility that fans are currently expressing, a title change could be in effect, and rather than call them the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the movie will be simple recognized as Ninja Turtles. »

Director Jonathan Liebesman Responds to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Controversy

26 March 2012 11:09 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

It's safe to say that Michael Bay is not well-liked by the community of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans, if online petitions against the upcoming Ninja Turtle reboot (that Bay is producing) are any guide.

It all started with Bay's seemingly innocent comments earlier this month, when he revealed that the Turtles in the reboot would not be innocent pets who are transformed after being exposed to a green ooze but would be "from an alien race" instead. The response was swift — and negative — prompting Bay to issue the equally well-embraced advice that all Ninja Turtle fans should "take a breath and chill." Reboot director Jonathan Liebesman is unsurprisingly on Bay's side. While promoting Wrath of the Titans, which opens later this week, Liebesman told io9 that "fans are going to be very happy" with the reboot.

'Ninja Turtles' co-creator Peter Laird clarifies reboot comment

26 March 2012 12:26 AM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Peter Laird has clarified his comments on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake. A post on the Ninja Turtles co-creator's website was taken as endorsement of Michael Bay's re-imagining of the franchise, in which the four stars will be aliens. "Did you really get out of what I wrote that I in any way, shape or form Like the idea of a planet of Turtles?" Laird wrote in response to a comment on the blog. "If so, I guess I have to re-think how I express myself. "Just so it's absolutely clear - I think a planet of turtles is not, in and of itself, a bad idea for some kind of science fiction/fantasy story. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Creator Comments on Director's Comments

25 March 2012 1:11 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Ever since Michael Bay revealed that the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot will make the turtles aliens instead of mutants, we've had the director, producers, both creators and cast members from the original trilogy comment on Turtle-gate 2012. This nonsense has gone on for about a week, and we're not about to stop it. Today, Peter Laird, who is a co-creator of the franchise and who has already commented on this, is back with his opinion on what director Jonathan Liebesman recently said about the controversy, which is that fans are going to love what they come up with. "I read the director's comments and found them to be vague and open to different interpretations," said Laird. "One of the most obvious of which is, sadly, that the Turtles are from an alien race. Which is exactly what Michael Bay said. I guess we'll have to wait and see." He »

Yesterday Jonathan Liebesman jumped into the fray with comments surrounding the new Tmnt movie. He told Collider, "“Look, it’s so funny—if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the Tcri canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out." During the week long controversy I have reported that Peter Laird, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been extremely critical of Bay's comments, and now he has responded to Liebesman explanation. "I read the director's comments and found them to be vague and open to different interpretations... one of the most obvious of which is, sadly, that the Turtles are from an alien race.
