Sandra Bullock has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2009 in Quigley Publishing Company’s 78th Annual Poll of Exhibitors and is the first female to win since Julia Roberts in 1999. Bullock is the eighth woman chosen #1 in the Poll’s 78 year history. She appeared in three films in 2009, The Blind Side, The Proposal and All About Steve.
The Quigley Poll, conducted each year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture theatre owners and film buyers, whichasks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue for their theatres during the year. It has been long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star’s real box-office draw because the selections are done by people whose livelihood depends on choosing the films that will bring audiences to their theatres. »
For many people, a new year means a time for new habits, resolutions, and fresh starts. For myself though, it’s always been about one thing and one thing only: 365 days of brand-new films!
And of course, Hollywood being Hollywood, there’s the usual litany of sequels, super-hero spectacle, remakes, and state-of-the-art Hollywood summer craziness filled with all manner of digital monsters and explosions. But there’s also new films from Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, and - most intriguing of all - a ballet thriller from Darren Aronofsky. Come on, admit it - you know you got excited when you heard the words “ballet thriller!” All that, and we also see the return of Michael Douglas in his seminal role as Gordon Gecko.
Read on after the jump for my list of the ten films that - for reasons both good and bad - I’m most looking forward to seeing in the new year. »

In the eyes of U.S. movie theater owners, Sandra Bullock shined as 2009's top Hollywood star at the boxoffice, as the actress scored with audiences after a two-year absence from screens.
Quigley Publishing Co.'s annual list released on Thursday of top money making stars, based on a poll of hundreds of theater executives, had Bullock beat out such stars as George Clooney and Denzel Washington, on the strength of her roles in "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side."
Romantic comedy "The Proposal" made $315 million at worldwide boxoffices after its June release, and football drama "The Blind Side" has made $193 million only in the U.S. and Canada since its Nov. 20 release, with its rollout in other countries still to come.
Bullock, who also starred in the 2009 comedy "All About Steve" with its $34 million take in the U.S. and Canada, is the eighth woman to top Quigley's list of top money-making stars, »

In many ways, 2009 was a yearlong echo of 2008. The recession that began last year may have ended, but unless you work for Goldman Sachs, you probably didn't notice. Meanwhile, so-called "new media"—a moniker that as time passes sounds more and more like it was invented by somebody's grandpa—continued to imitate a fast-moving glacier carving a canyon across the old-media landscape. Nearly every major story of 2009 sprang from these two reservoirs, already well tapped in 2008. But at the very least, this year was no less interesting than the one it followed. Here are 10 reasons why.10. Equity's swinging doorMaybe former Actors' Equity Association executive director John P. Connolly, who resigned Nov. 30, and former Equity president Mark S. Zimmerman, who resigned Dec. 12, really did decide within two weeks of each other to leave their union posts to focus on their respective acting careers and personal lives. Maybe not. But for Equity, »

Carey Mulligan and Shia Labeouf ventured out for another sunny afternoon in La Thursday. They stopped off for a quick lunch together, following their other recent days of shopping and kissing all over town. Shia's letting his casual side shine through as he breaks out his favorite sweatshirts after a few months of wearing suits on the set of Money Never Sleeps, but he may have to get fancy again when award season rolls around. Carey's up for multiple awards for her work in An Education, and Shia's services might be required as a red carpet date. View 5 Photos › »

• All Demi Moore's trying to do is get the word out about her perfume Wanted with some TwitPics (she apparently is in charge of marketing the stuff all on her own...recession?) and some random had to go and call her neck old looking. Demi's response: "I'm 47 how am I supposed to look?" • Between the volcano-making kit and more recent craft store shopping, Carey Mulligan and Shia Labeouf are officially the cutest couple ever. • Tiger is using secret night-golfing sessions to work through his transgressions. Shia Labeouf and Carey Mulligan were out in La yesterday afternoon to do a little more shopping together. The duo was also side-by-side on Tuesday, when they stopped to pick up a Diy volcano kit from Borders. This time around they were in the market for art supplies, and one big canvas proved to be of multiple uses for Carey. British Carey has spent the last week or so in Shia's hometown, and she hopefully she gets familiar with the city since it looks like she'll be spending lots of time there as award season rolls around - especially as she just picked up a SAG Award nomination for her work in An Education. Check out the full list of nominees, which features lots of Precious and Up in the Air, all over at Buzz! View 10 Photos › To see more of Shia and Carey, just read more. View 10 Photos › »
• Shia Labeouf and his Golden Globe-nominated girlfriend, Brit Carey Mulligan, have been sightseeing in Los Angeles together ... by bus! The two were spotted smooching at a local bus stop by the actor's Sherman Oaks house - and an eyewitness tells us, "Shia has been taking Carey to all of his favorite spots." Among their stops: Lunch at Mexican restaurant Baja Fresh followed by a visit to Borders. "They are a very sweet couple," the eyewitness says. "They browsed several books and would not let go of each other's hands." The two left with a "make your own volcano kit" and »
Shia Labeouf and Carey Mulligan stopped for a quick kiss during a shopping outing in La yesterday afternoon. The duo was spotted together in the city earlier this week, even managing to look in love while waiting for a bus to arrive. This time around, Shia and Carey were in the market for some holiday goodies at a Borders bookstore - they left with Shia carrying a Diy volcano kit in his still-bandaged hand. There's some celebration for the couple to do now that Carey's received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in An Education, and perhaps an at-home science experiment is the kind of party she and Shia have in mind. Shia Labeouf and Carey Mulligan were in La yesterday patiently waiting for their bus to come. The adorable new couple is in California after spending the last few months working on Money Never Sleeps in NYC. Shia seems to have settled down with Carey for the time being, but he's going solo in another important area of his life - he dumped his longtime agent recently and hopes to navigate Hollywood without one, apparently just like Leonardo DiCaprio. Carey's representation, however, seems to have steered her well. She was nominated for a Critics' Choice Award because of her performance in An Education, and now she's up for a Golden Globe - make sure to check out the full list of nominees! View 5 Photos › »

The Internet Movie Database has announced the Top Stars of 2009, which are determined by the site's unique visitors.
Johnny Depp may be the "Sexiest Man Alive," but Robert Pattinson is the most sought-after. Hunky "Twilight" franchise vampire Robert Pattinson was at the top of the list, ending the five-year domination by Johnny Depp. R-Patz was joined by on-screen lady love Kristen Stewart at No. 2. Who else made the list?
"Twilight: New Moon" stars dominated the Top 25, representing almost 25% of the list. In fact, "Twilight" stars made-up 40% of the Top 10 with Robert Pattinson (No. 1), Kristen Stewart (No. 2), Taylor Lautner (No. 5) and Dakota Fanning (No. 8). Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed also made the list, at No. 11 and No. 15 respectively.
Exclusive: I've confirmed that Shia Labeouf left Wme on Friday. And that he's going agentless, sticking with his manager John Crosby and his attorney Matt Saver. It's a huge loss for the agency and Megan Silverman (who helped put the actor in everything big like Disturbia and Transformers and Indiana Jones 4 and Wall Street 2), since Shia is one of the biggest young stars with the brightest future. But it was all very amicable. The explanation I hear is that Shia has Leo has his role model and, since DiCaprio is famously agentless, Shia thinks he can go that [...] »

I already can't wait for Ghostbusters 3, and apparently, neither can Sigourney Weaver. The star of the previous two movies may have revealed a new, pivotal character in an interview this week, saying, “I know that my little son Oscar - who was kidnapped from me - I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster.” The Oscar in question is the baby in Ghostbusters 2, memorably spirited away by a ghostly nanny (one of the most terrifying parts to me as a kid). So this opens up a casting opportunity for the role of grown-up Oscar; it would need to be someone in their early 20s, with a whip-smart sense of humor that can keep up with that of Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. I have my own ideas about the rising young male star who's also funny enough to be a fifth Ghostbuster. Shia Labeouf comes to mind, »
The future of the Transformers franchise was initially up in the air following the release of the second movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, despite a successful showing at the box office. Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman declined to return for a third movie, and director Michael Bay said that he needed some time off from Transformers.
Plans for the franchise quickly got back on track, however. Bay changed his mind about making a "small movie" between the Transformers and even announced the return of Megan Fox, despite the very public feud between the two of them. And, while Orci and Kurtzman are out, Orci said that the script for the third movie is in the capable hands of Ehren Kruger, who assisted the duo with the script for the second movie.
Just when things seem to be humming along, the possibility of a studio leak has surfaced. The »

I get a lot of strange e-mails, but none stranger than the one I received this morning. At first I thought it was some reader who was going to tell me what a horrible writer I am, or how I killed their grandfather. You know, the usual fan mail. But this was pretty strange.Apparently, my future self decided to e-mail me. I guess I reviewed Spider-Man 6 and wanted my past self (me in the present) to post it. I have no idea why I would do that. Then again, I'm probably just as stupid in the future as I am now. So readers, here is an exclusive review of Spider-Man 6 from yours truly.May 9th, 2014Hey Dude,It's me, George. Yes, you. Future you. I know, it's kind of shocking that I would be e-mailing you, especially to your Latinoreview address. Good news about that is, you're still employed and running the website. »
