Film Review: ‘Walking With the Enemy’

25 April 2014 7:08 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A little-known tale of Jewish resistance during the final days of WWII gets tackled with appreciable ambition and blunt, sporadic emotional force in “Walking With the Enemy.” First-time director Mark Schmidt’s fictionalized account of the heroic travails of Pinchas Rosenbaum, who boldly donned the garb of the enemy in order to save thousands of Hungarian Jews, tells a pretty remarkable story on an impressively low-budget, action-packed canvas, though its attempts to fill in the political-historical context too often lapse into stiff, waxworks-style re-creation. Made with obvious passion and drive, but also a nagging predilection for Holocaust-drama cliches, the picture can count on a certain degree of theatrical interest based on its subject matter and inspirational thrust, en route to finding a homevid audience.

One of several harrowing experiences recounted in the 2003 documentary “Unlikely Heroes,” Rosenbaum’s story feels as if it’s being squeezed into earnestly conventional parameters from the get-go, »

Liberty Studios has given ComingSoon.net an exclusive clip from their upcoming WWII drama Walking with the Enemy , directed by Mark Schmidt and starring Jonas Armstrong, Hannah Tointon, Ben Kingsley, Simon Kunz, Simon Dutton and more. Based on a true story, Armstrong plays Elek Cohen, a young man living in Hungary during the Nazi occupation at the end of World War II who steals a Nazi uniform in order to pose as an officer. In the clip below, you can see Cohen in a restaurant interacting with another Nazi officer who is raving about the luxurious Nazi "resorts" where his fellow Jews, neighbors and family alike, are being sent, putting him in a sticky situation. New Son Of God Movie Delivered A Mediocre Version Of Jesus’ Story & More

1 March 2014 7:46 PM, PST | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

New Son Of God movie delivered a mediocre version of Jesus' story & more. 20th Century Fox released their new drama flick, "Son Of God," into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty mediocre at best. I actually thought the 2000 TV version ,named "Jesus," delivered a much better version of the Jesus story. This one stars: Diogo Morgado, Greg Hicks, Adrian Schiller, Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Joe Wredden, Simon Kunz, Paul Marc Davis, Matthew Gravelle, Amber Rose Revah, and Roma Downey. Basically, this movie was just another rehashed telling of the story of Jesus the Christ, and it really came off that way. It showed his humble birth and all of his most popular miracles he performed like healing the crippled man, finding all the fish in the water, raising Lazarus from the dead ,and more. We also saw the drama he incurred with Pharisees, »
