Uwe Boll Isn’t the Worst Director of the 21st Century, Says Metacritic, but He’s Close — See the Top 20
After naming Alfonso Cuarón the best director of the 21st century, Metacritic has gone ahead and averaged out filmmakers’ Metascores to name the worst directors since 2000. As with the first list, filmmakers must have made at least four movies in the last 17 years to be eligible — meaning that Tom Six (“The Human Centipede”) and Dinesh D’Souza (“Hillary’s America”) don’t qualify despite the fact that they’re far from critical darlings.

Uwe Boll, known for his oft-panned video-game adaptations, comes in at #2; the dubious honor of defeating him goes to Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, whose average Metascore of 14.5 comes from directing spoofs like “Meet the Spartans,” “Date Movie,” and “Epic Movie.”

The Cruel Intentions TV Pilot Has Been Shelved

The end of the year is typically a time for reflection on the wins and losses of the previous 12 months, but as news breaks of the shelving of the planned Cruel Intentions TV pilot, it is not entirely clear which category that project would have fallen into. It seems that the show never made it beyond the ‘in contention’ stage, and instead fell through the cracks in the shuffle of cast options and attempts to find an appropriate home for it in the schedule. We now know that NBC officially passed on it in October, and that Sony TV has been trying to find a new home for it ever since.

The pilot was intended to be a follow-up to the 1999 film Roger Kumble film, Cruel Intentions, which was itself a reworking of Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. That source material was most notably adapted for cinema

NBC passes on Cruel Intentions TV sequel

If you were looking forward to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return as Kathryn Merteuil in the TV sequel to 1999’s Cruel Intentions, then we have some bad news for you as EW is reporting that NBC has passed on the pilot.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel though, as Sony Pictures Television is apparently seeking an alternative home for the project, which has been created by original writer-director Roger Kumble and would see Gellar returning as the conniving Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International.

Kate Levering had signed on to play Annette Hargrove, Reese Witherspoon’s character from the movie, while Taylor John Smith would portray Bash Casey, the son of Annette and the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe).

NBC Passes on ‘Cruel Intentions’ Series

  • The Wrap
NBC Passes on ‘Cruel Intentions’ Series
NBC has decided not to move forward with the “Cruel Intentions” TV series, TheWrap has confirmed. NBC bought the script in October with a commitment plus a penalty from the film’s original director and writer Roger Kumble. He co-wrote the project with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, best known for staging the musical version of “Cruel Intentions” in Los Angeles last summer. Kumble previously tried to bring “Cruel Intentions” to TV with a series called “Manchester Prep.” It was scrapped by Fox prior to the airing of the first episode in 1999, due to scenes that included female masturbation amongst other things.

‘Cruel Intentions’ Not Moving Forward at NBC, Sony TV Shopping Reboot

‘Cruel Intentions’ Not Moving Forward at NBC, Sony TV Shopping Reboot
The highly-buzzed about “Cruel Intentions” reboot is dead at NBC, Variety has learned. But the series may find life elsewhere.

The sequel to the cult favorite film was picked up to pilot in May at NBC, being put into contention for the current 2016-2017 season, though the network opted not to order the show at the time of upfronts when the bulk of broadcast series pickups came through. However, NBC kept the project alive and on deck for consideration, extending the pilot options for the entire cast this summer.

Sources say the decision not to move forward came down to not finding the right fit on NBC’s schedule. Insiders explain that the network liked the project, but has too many midseason shows still to come on their slate, including “Emerald City,” “The New Celebrity Apprentice” and a slew of comedies, such as DC Comics’ “Powerless.” With jam-packed offerings coming up and a current stable schedule, NBC

‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Show Update: Pilot Options Extended for Entire Cast

‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Show Update: Pilot Options Extended for Entire Cast
The “Cruel Intentions” TV show is still in the works.

As of today, the pilot options on the entire cast have been extended, Variety has learned.

The television remake of the ’90s teen drama was picked up to pilot at NBC earlier this year, though was not ordered to series. The network still has not made a decision on whether to order the series, but remains interested, therefore asking for cast option extensions for everyone, including lead Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is reprising her role in the potential TV series.

With NBC stalling to make a decision, sources say that Sony Television (the studio behind “Cruel Intentions”), has garnered interest from cable and streaming outlets, including Hulu, Freeform and more.

Insiders maintain that NBC is still looking at “Cruel Intentions,” perhaps for a summer 2017 debut, but the network has not settled on a sensible spot for the younger-skewing, sexy show, since

Cruel Intentions: NBC Reportedly Still Interested in Sony TV Series

Variety reports that Roger Kumble, creator of the Cruel Intentions TV show adaptation says NBC and Sony are still in talks to bring the show to the air, possibly next summer. NBC ordered the Cruel Intentions pilot, back in February. When the show was not among the series announced during the recent Upfront, word broke that the pilot was still alive at the Peacock Network.

Cruel Intentions is a sequel to 1999 Cruel Intentions feature film, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon. Gellar is reprising the role of Kathryn Merteuil in the sequel series. Kate Levering has been cast as Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon's role). The pilot cast also includes Peter Gallagher, Taylor John Smith, Nathalie Kelley, Coby Bell, Anne Winters, Duane Henry, and Samantha Logan.

‘Cruel Intentions’ Creator Roger Kumble Says Sony and NBC Are ‘Behind This Show’

‘Cruel Intentions’ Creator Roger Kumble Says Sony and NBC Are ‘Behind This Show’
Will the “Cruel Intentions” revival ever make it to television?

Though the show, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, is not yet on the 2016-2017 slate, creator Roger Kumble tells Variety NBC and Sony are still in talks and are discussing the possibility of launching the show next summer.

“The latest I’ve heard is that Sony and NBC are trying to figure this out,” Kumble says. “It feels like a long time, but it hasn’t been that long because they had the upfronts and then it was Memorial Day and everyone in the industry goes on vacation so I think they’re regrouping. What’s been great is that I’m still getting emails of support from NBC and Sony saying, ‘We’re behind this show.'”

Sources say that the network is already toying around with a trailer, targeting a domestic summer launch, in addition to meeting about international

Reader's Choice: Cruel Intentions (1999)

Wednesday nights are now devoted to you. We'll alternate between a Q&A and a Reader's Choice Movie. So you are essentially picking the topics each week. We started with Gattaca but y'all kept asking for Cruel Intentions so here we are again.

Believe it or not, I've never seen Cruel Intentions (1999) so I gladly accept the multiple requests to discuss. This is written and directed by someone named Roger Kumble and the name did not ring a bell. It turns out he's still working, mostly on television and he's working on a TV sequel to this very movie. I missed this news somehow but Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role so this post is more timely than I meant it to be.

The credits also inform us that it's only "suggested by" Dangerous Liaisons.  That's a fancy word for adapted if you want to compete in Original Screenplay at the Oscars.

Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.
