Bruce Timm Talks Batman: Gotham By Gaslight In New Video

19 October 2017 11:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Each year, the fine folks at Warner Bros. Animation serve up a handful of films based on DC properties and, more often than not, they knock it out of the park. Not only that, but a significant portion of the fan base argues that they’re superior to what’s offered in the live action realm. And, to be completely honest, I have to concede in most cases.

Having said that, the trend looks to continue in 2018 with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight leading the charge. First revealed to us via a sneak peek included on the Batman and Harley Quinn Blu-ray release, it boasts a Dark Knight unlike anything we’ve seen outside of the comic books.

For those unfamiliar, Gotham by Gaslight was originally published in 1989 and ended up starting the “Elseworlds” line of books. Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola, it followed the exploits of »

Batman and Harley Quinn Review: A Campy, Sex-Fueled 90s Nostalgia Trip

30 August 2017 6:53 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. Animation goes 90s retro with Batman and Harley Quinn. It is written by Bruce Timm and Jim Krieg, who created the classic Batman: The Animated Series. The characters and style are drawn from the 1992 television show, but it is much more lighthearted. The film is quite campy. It is tonally very different from the recent batch of thematically dark cartoons of the DC Universe. Some scenes are laugh out loud funny, while others are over the top silly. It is a muddled effort that doesn't quite gel. The third act falls apart completely. I appreciate the humor, but there needed to be a more cohesive story.

Kevin Conroy and Loren Lester return as Batman and Nightwing. The dynamic duo investigates a break in at a top secret lab by Poison Ivy (Paget Brewster) and Floronic Man, aka Jason Woodrue (Kevin Michael Richardson). The files stolen lead to another »

Batman Vs. Jack the Ripper in First Gotham by Gaslight Footage

25 August 2017 11:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If there is one thing that is almost always certain when it comes to the world of DC, it is getting solid animated movies. With the exception of Batman: The Killing Joke, which was a rare misfire. Next up for Warner Bros. is an adaptation of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, which is an alternate universe story that sees Batman tracking down a serial killer in turn of the century Gotham City. Now, a sneak peek at the animated feature has made its way online.

The 8-minute Batman: Gotham by Gaslight preview is included on the Batman And Harley Quinn Blu-ray/DVD release, but was recently released online by YouTuber Mr. Marbles. The extended preview is a mix of select footage from the animated adaptation, mixed with interviews from producer Bruce Timm, director Mike Carlin and writer James Krieg. As it happens, Krieg really got into the spirit of things and »

Get A Sneak Peek At Batman: Gotham By Gaslight Animated Movie

25 August 2017 8:10 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Last month, we found out that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight would be the latest comic book to be turned into a DC universe animated movie. Now, we have our first look at the film courtesy of this eight-minute sneak peak that’s arrived online, after being featured on the Batman And Harley Quinn DVD/Blu-ray.

Written by Brian Augustyn with art by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, 1989’s Gotham By Gaslight is often credited as kickstarting the DC Elseworlds imprint, which produced out-of-continuity stories that gave familiar characters a fresh twist. Gaslight moves the Batman mythos to Victorian times and sees a steampunk-themed version of the Dark Knight hunt down Jack the Ripper, who’s travelled from London to Gotham.

The sneak peak gives us a glimpse at various snippets of the movie, and thankfully it looks to be one of the more visually-impressive DC animated efforts we’ve seen so far. »

‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ Review

17 August 2017 8:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Melissa Rauch, Kevin Conroy, Loren Lester, Paget Brewster, Kevin Michael Richardson | Written by Bruce Timm, Jim Krieg | Directed by Sam Liu

Aka Dr Harleen Quinzel, Harley Quinn first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Originally voice by Days of Our LivesArleen Sorkin, she was created by series writers Bruce Timm and Paul Dini as an object of amusement for the Joker. A squeaking sufferer of “Histrionic Personality Disorder”, she has gone from kooky sidekick to become the star of the New 52’s most original – and most insane – new series.

It’s immediately apparent that Batman and Harley Quinn, the new standalone feature from Warner Bros. Animation, written by Timm and directed by DC veteran Sam Liu, is firmly rooted in the classic TV show. Everything is here, from the minimalist Art Deco styling, to the perennial orange sunset, to that definitive half-Elfman score.

The animated Batman And Harley Quinn film is taking shape, and now has a director attached...

While we twiddle our thumbs and wait for the double punch of the Dceu's live-action Wonder Woman and Justice League movies, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment continue to skip along in their own little (arguably better) animated universe.

They've just announced that they're moving forward with their Batman And Harley Quinn film in earnest by tapping director Sam Lie to take charge of the project. He's previously worked on Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, 2016's unfortunate misstep The Killing Joke, and Justice League Vs Teen Titans under their watchful eye, so it looks like it'll be a fairly smooth process all in all.
