Peter Krause has been cast as the male lead in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Fox drama “9-1-1,” Variety has learned.

Krause will star opposite Angela Bassett, who was announced as the series lead when the show was ordered in May. The procedural drama explores the high-pressure experiences of police, paramedics and firefighters who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives.

Krause is a television veteran, having most recently appeared in the ABC Shondaland drama “The Catch.” He is also known for his roles on shows like “Parenthood,” “Sports Night,” “Six Feet Under,” and “Dirty Sexy Money” along with guest roles on “Seinfeld,” “Ellen,” “Party of Five,” and “Spin City.” He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.

Jason Richman Inks New Two-Year Overall Deal with ABC Studios

Jason Richman has signed a new two-year overall deal with ABC Studios, Variety has learned.

Under the terms of the agreement, Richman will develop new television projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming services. Most recently, Richman wrote for the Civil War drama “Mercy Street” on PBS. He also created the series “Detroit 187” for ABC, and executive produced the ABC drama “Lucky 7” for the network as well. On the feature film side, he has written the screenplays for Kevin Costner’s “Swing Vote,” Nicolas Cage’s “Bangkok Dangerous,” and the Chris Rock-Anthony Hopkins thriller “Bad Company.”

He is repped by CAA, Concoff Entertainment, Chris Bucci and Steve Savisky at Savisky, Satin & Bacon and attorneys Warren Dern and Jim Gilio.

Common, Mykelti Williamson, and Leem Lubany have joined the cast of Michelle Monaghan’s independent drama “Saint Judy,” which has started shooting in Los Angeles.

Previously announced cast members include Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Gabriel Bateman, Ben Schnetzer, Waleed Zuaiter, Kevin Chapman, Aimee Garcia, and Peter Krause.

Cannonball Productions is producing “Saint Judy,” which centers on the story of Judy Wood, a single mother in her mid-30’s who began work in immigration law and represented an Afghani immigrant who had been persecuted for opening up a school for girls in her home country. By winning the case, Wood single-handedly changed the law of asylum nationwide, allowing women to be designated a protected class.
