‘The Vow’ Trailer: Rachel McAdams Attempts ‘The Notebook’ Redux

4 June 2011 4:37 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Rachel McAdams may have starred in such fine films as Red Eye, State of Play, and the upcoming Terrence Malick project, while Channing Tatum has proved he isn’t just a stud in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Public Enemies, and likely his upcoming Steven Soderbergh project, but for The Vow, these two are riding on nothing but their previous romantic drama acclaim. The trailer does not shy away from the fact, highlighting their roles in The Notebook and Dear John, respectively.

Directed by Michael Sucsy, of Grey Gardens HBO fame, this marks his feature directorial debut. Reminiscent of a recent, devastating RadioLab podcast I heard, The Vow looks like it will hit that sweet spot for fans of the genre. The only disappointment stems from Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein‘s involvement, who previously gave us Valentine’s Day and He’s Just Not That Into You. Also starring Sam Neill, »

Drew Barrymore On Her Directorial Project How to Be Single

17 April 2011 8:27 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Yeah, you already know what we’re talking about, so let’s get straight to the point. Drew Barrymore is on board to direct an adaptation of Liz Tuccillo’s novel titled How to Be Single, and we finally have some details about this romantic comedy to share with you. Of course, this comes straight from Barrymore who, in an interview with EW, revealed:

“This has a very wide palette that I really really like. I’m so interested in so many different types of people and lifestyles that there is kind of a lovely mosaic, like a little bit for everybody. It’s hopefully, in a lot of ways, not a romantic comedy.

People have this weird stigma [with] that word – it’s a turnoff to guys or whatever. But I think we’ve honed in on a style that will be more universal, a little bit ageless and not gender specific. »

13 April 2011 11:49 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

After both producing and starring in 2009’s He’s Just Not That Into You, Drew Barrymore has already taken audiences through the emotional (and comedic) twists of break-ups and make-ups. Now, the 36 year-old star has announced plans to helm a similarly dating- themed project called How to Be Single, her second directing gig after 2009’s roller-derby flick Whip It. “Love is never gonna be a tired subject,” Barrymore tells EW. “Being single, this one definitely speaks to me and I’ve explored it a lot in the last year and a half. Drew Barrymore Will Teach Us How To Be Single

16 March 2011 4:52 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Having a renowned drug and alcohol problem by the age of thirteen would not normally be seen as a credible precursor to one day being largely responsible for a business venture risking tens of millions of dollars. At thirty? Mandatory. But not at thirteen.

So the fact that Drew Barrymore is being given a second directing/producing role with an adaptation of the romantic comedy novel How To Be Single is, in many ways, quite remarkable.

Following a successful career in, ostensibly, fairly tepid romantic comedies, Barrymore made her directorial debut with Whip It, a punchy female high-school tale of misfit resistance and which received a moderately positive response from the serious cinematic press- a none too shabby return for a neophyte director-despite having an undeservedly modest return at the box-office. Her second film will also be an adaptation and will also take her back to the romantic comedy genre, »

Drew Barrymore will follow up her Whip It (2009) directorial debut--which scored better with critics than audiences--with How to Be Single, a romantic comedy for New Line, reports THR. She will also produce with her Flower Films partner Nancy Juvonen (Flower Films's first producing effort was Never Been Kissed in 1999). How to Be Single is based on the 2008 novel by Liz Tuccillo, adapted for the screen by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, which chronicles ten years of breakups for a group of New Yorkers. If it sounds familiar, see novel-turned-rom-com He's Just Not That Into You for confirmation (also produced by Flower Films and co-starring Barrymore). No complaints here. Drew Barrymore to Direct Romantic Comedy How to Be Single

16 March 2011 12:12 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Anyone single out there? Yeah, I know, I have the same problem, but it looks that Drew Barrymore is not an exception either! At least not when it comes to some new Hollywood projects, because she’s going to direct an adaptation of Liz Tuccillo’s novel titled How to Be Single. Romantic comedy? What the hell, I’m interested!

So, this will be Barrymore’s second feature film that will follow “love lives and break-ups of a group of New Yorkers over the span of ten years.”

Ok, it sounds familiar, but we have an interesting team on board! The whole thing will be written by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, and, as you see, this new project is a reteaming of the He’s Just Not That Into You team – Barrymore and production partner Nancy Juvonen produced that movie while Silverstein and Kohn wrote the script.

Drew Barrymore picks very Drew Barrymore-ish directorial follow-up

16 March 2011 9:00 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Perpetual free spirit Drew Barrymore isn't willing to give up her penchant for all things Girl Power just yet, despite the fact that the Spice Girls haven't been around in a decade, and is planning a rather fitting, though predictable, project for her second directorial effort.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, she'll take a seat behind the lens for How to Be Single a - you guessed it - romantic comedy based on the book by Liz Tuccillo that follows the relationship ups and downs of a group of NYC hip young things over the course of 10 years.

If this premise sounds vaguely familiar it should and gets even cozier with the addition of Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn as screenwriters since the two penned He's Just Not That Into You »

Drew Barrymore Signed to Direct How to Be Single

16 March 2011 8:56 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Drew Barrymore is returning behind the camera to direct How to Be Single, a New Line romantic comedy. It will be Barrymore's second stint in the director's chair following her freshman effort in 2009's entertaining coming-of-age film Whip It in which she also co-starred.

How to Be Single is based off the novel of the same name by author Liz Tuccillo. Like Valentine's Day before it, the film will follow the love lives of a group of people but spread out the narrative over the course of 10 years. It will be set in New York City where ironically the sequel to Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, will be set.

Scribes Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn penned the How to Be Single screenplay. Casting on the film has yet to commence but should get underway shortly.

Barrymore is also producing How to be Single under her Flower Films company with partner Nancy Juvonen. »

Drew Barrymore Will Tell You How to Be Single

16 March 2011 8:46 AM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Drew Barrymore made her directorial debut with Whip It, and after taking a few years off, she's ready to get back behind the camera. For her next project, Barrymore has chosen a romantic comedy called How to Be Single. If you're already thinking about He's Just Not That Into You, then you're on the right track. The film will follow a similar formula, showcasing an ensemble cast as they go through love and heartbreak over 10 years in New York City. To take the comparisons one step further, Barrymore's new film reunites Hjntiy scribes Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn with Barrymore and her producing partner Nancy Juvonen. Both films are also based on books, though Liz Tuccillo's How to Be Single is a novel, not a self-help book. I thought Whip It was a solid freshman effort from Barrymore, and I don't doubt that she'll have any problem getting comfortable directing a romantic comedy, »

Drew Barrymore Gets New Directing Gig

I am so glad to read that Drew Barrymore has signed on to direct a new film. But I am none too pleased that this could be a redo of He's Just Not That Into You (which was dreadful). Barrymore and her company Flower Film produced He's Just Not That Into You and reports are that she will be reteaming with that film's writers--Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn--on this film. It is called How to Be Single and is based on a novel by Liz Tuccillo. I very much liked Barrymore's directorial debut Whip-It. I thought the film was great… »

Drew Barrymore set to Direct Romantic Comedy How To Be Single

16 March 2011 7:37 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Drew Barrymore has set up a new romantic comedy as her next directing gig called How to Be single. This will be Barrymore's second film. The first film she directed was the roller derby movie Whip It

The film is based off the novel written by Liz Tuccillo and explores the loves lives and break-ups of a group of New Yorkers over the course of ten years. The book was adapted by screenwriters Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn.

This movie definitley isn't for me. It caters more toward the Sex in the City, He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day movie crowd.

Here's a full description of the story from the Novel:

Julie Jenson is a 37-year-old book publicist in New York. She's also single - and has been for six years. When her friend Georgia's husband dumps her for a samba teacher, Julie gathers her »

Drew Barrymore to direct romantic comedy How to Be Single

16 March 2011 7:22 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Multi-story romance based on Liz Tuccillo novel is the star's second film as a director, following her 2008 hit Whip It

Drew Barrymore won plaudits for her directorial feature debut Whip It, a comedy centered around an all-girl roller derby team. Now she's set to ply her trade in the much-maligned multi-story romance genre, after signing on to direct How to Be Single.

Like predecessors such as He's Just Not That Into You and Valentine's Day, both of which performed strongly at the box office but had many critics weeping miserably into their popcorn, Barrymore's film will focus on several love stories and feature an ensemble cast. How to Be Single is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by Liz Tuccillo, which charted the lives and relationships of a group of New Yorkers over a 10-year period.

Drew Barrymore Will Direct Again For How To Be Single

16 March 2011 6:21 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Drew Barrymore starred in three different movies in 2009, but for the sake of this argument let's look at two of them. He's Just Not That Into You was a sprawling rom-com based on a book and wasn't very good, but Barrymore had only a small part in it so let's not blame her. And then there was Whip It, a coming-of-age story based on a book that Barrymore didn't just star in but directed, and was infinitely better than He's Just Not That Into You and virtually everything else Barrymore had done in the last five years. So it should be bad news that Barrymore planning to reteam with the He's Just Not That Into You writers Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, adapting another Liz Tuccillo book How To Be Single. But wait! According to THR Barrymore is also planning to direct it. And truly, that changes everything. Though Tuccillo's »
